Northrop &amp; Johnson has announced the sale of the 29.26 metre Jongert sloop Azzura. The all aluminium vessel was completed by the Dutch shipyard in 1998, and features naval architecture and exterior design by Doug Peterson, whilst Peter Sijm undertook her interiors.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/157302/image/large-826864a826cae0251697e8d810de5363.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/157302">She underwent an extensive refit from 2007 to 2008, which saw her receive new decks, paint and rigging amongst other work. Her Jongert-patented folding keel provides a shallow draft allowing the yacht to easily cruise to some of the world’s most hard to reach destinations. She also features a retractable cockpit roof, interior and exterior helm stations with excellent visibility and a Stoway Rondal in-mast furling.Ann Avery represented the seller in the sale, whilst Hank Halsted represented the buyer. Dahm International has announced that they will bring the Doug Peterson designed Jongert 2700M Ithaka to this year's Monaco Yacht Show. Ithaka is the 5th Jongert 2700M, one of the most successful semi-custom designs ever. The Jongert 2700M Ithaka in Menorca

At Boot Düsseldorf Jongert Shipyard introduces the design of a new 5200M superyacht. This modern lined yacht is the most recent innovation of the shipyard that made a successful restart in 2009. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129993/image/large-537372a421699d42d52959d2de8d4972.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129993">“This <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/YachtModel/3510">5200M</a> is a typical Jongert”, says naval architect René van der Velden. “In the past you recognized a Jongert sailing yacht from a great distance. In this design we have reintroduced that recognizability and it’s our vision on the well-known classic Jongert yachts.” Apart from the own range of yachts Jongert also builds fully custom built yachts. “The own range of yachts can be seen as semi custom built”, explains Van der Velden. “Accepting that everyone has his own priorities and ideas of how to use this yacht, we work closely with each and everyone of our clients to identify the characteristics that are important to them and incorporate these into the yacht’s design. “ More than ever the emphasis of the <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/YachtModel/3510">5200M</a> is on privacy, luxury and comfort. “A good example is the beach club zone”, says Van der Velden. “This zone includes a large sunbathing platform, a wet bar, a shower and a toilet. This area is accessible directly from the four VIP guest cabins. Another example is the fact that we have made a special passageway alongside the wheelhouse connecting the different sitting areas and thus preventing the use of the gangways. Via the passageway you can, for instance go directly from the wheelhouse on the after deck to the sunbathing area on the front deck.” <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129994/image/large-e3616151505b8714f39cd1b7453cd5fb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129994">The aft deck can be used for placing two jet skis on one side and a RIB on the other side. The front deck has enough space for installing a swimming pool or placing a big RIB alongside the spacious sunbathing area. The master cabin (for two persons) is placed in such a way that the beam of the yacht (10.35 m) is fully used. “Traditionally the emphasis of the shipyard is on the development and construction of sailing yachts and this will be its main activity”, says Folkert Brongers, general manager of Jongert Shipyard. Brongers continues, “Jongert is one of the only Dutch sailing yacht builders with its own range of yachts and has always been top of the line as far as sailing yachts are concerned. We will continue to do so. The motor yacht line is available and will be extended in addition to the existing line of sailing yachts and refitting of yachts will also be one of the activities.” <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129995/image/large-c1ccae1661300ff2a3c5316c9044fab2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129995">A syndicate consisting of the VeKa Group (specialized in the development, construction and completion of inland craft and ocean-going vessels), Werkina Werkendam (leading in the field of maritime electro-technical engineering), DHG (investment company in real estate and developer of high-quality real estate projects) and Rabo Private Equity (a company that also participates in IHC) took over Jongert Shipyard BV in 2009. “Each of these shareholders has a very solid financial foundation”, says Brongers. “Thanks to this construction Jongert is stronger than ever. This creates confidence with our employees, suppliers, existing clients and new clients. Jongert introduces modern lined 5200M superyacht

Work is progressing steadily on the new Atlantic. Laying under her winter cover at the quay of Van Drimmelen, the largest family owned timber merchant in Holland, Ed Kastelein’s team of specialized craftsmen is realizing another masterpiece of classic boat building. Designed by William Gardner, the Atlantic will be the most impressive recreation of a legendary yacht ever. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126544/image/large-659acaa25331abc1ffa91a6b7eecdaaf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126544">The original was launched on July 28th 1903. No one could have foreseen then that the schooner would gain enduring fame in 1905 under command of the renowned captain Charlie Barr setting the record for a transatlantic crossing from New York to The Lizard on the south coast of England at 12 days, 4 hours and 1 minute. A mono-hull record that would stand for a 100 years. Since the launch of the raven black steel hull at the Van der Graaf Yard on 15 March 2008, work has been progressing steadily. Deep down in her engine and pump room the Yanmar engine and generators have been fitted and the engine has been aligned. Hundreds of yards of pipes and tubes have been installed under the main floor. The deep wine glass shape hull gives her bilge standing headroom over 30 metres length, which makes life for the plumbers below actually quite comfortable. Mounting the MAR-IX air-co system will also greatly benefit from the available space. The carpenters and electricians are working hand in hand, as the interior takes shape. All bulkheads and separation walls are in place and litterally miles of cable have disappeared through it all. The Veth bowthruster is in place and hooked up. Atlantic is the first large yacht taking full advantage of the new fingerjointing technology in which the Royal Boogaerdt company near Rotterdam has specialised. This new technology provides for an incredibly beautiful and uncluttered teak deck, where all boards are invisibly joined to lengths of 13.20m. At Absolute Projects in Portugal the deck hardware has been recreated using original plans and photographs. Meanwhile the Harken company went out of their way to manufacture 36 all bronze custom winches in the style of the bygone days. Their commitment to creating something exceptional is just another example of the joy and good spirit around the project, where each and every supplyer feels great pride and ownership on their part of the project. Below decks in the forepeak the crew quarters and the modern galley, pantry and laundry are close to being finalised.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126547/image/large-e70fa358694be0bfd58bb37090b407c4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126547">The first of the three masts is completed. The immense spars will stand almost 50 meters tall. Both the lower and the top masts will be made of alloy and the booms and gaffs will be built in Sitka spruce. As early as 2007 the required volume was secured in Alaska and cut to very exacting specifications. Once fitted out, the schooner will be rigged and prepared for a delivery passage to the south of France in spring. There the finishing is expected to take another year. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/126548/image/large-7dfbea4729fcd9292f183c96e80cf4d5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126548">The schooner measures 56.43 meters (185’) over the bows, excluding bowsprit and mizzen boom outboard of respectively 8.76 meters (28’8) and 4.05 meters (13’3). With her beam of 8.85 meters (29’) and draft of 5.00 meters (16’5) her displacement is 395 tons. From the different sail plans of the original, the record setting 1905 rig of 1,720m² (18,500 square feet) has been chosen for the recreated yacht. The building takes place under Bureau Veritas classification for charter yachts and the yacht will be MCA certified. It will still be a while before the new Atlantic will serve for luxury charter. Though not yet fully finished, Atlantic will be sailing again soon. And no doubt she will have a crack at beating the time the original yacht made to cross the Atlantic in 1905! This morning the Schooner Atlantic was launched from the shipyard of Van Der Graaf in Hardinxveld-Giessendam.
