There is a new player on the brokerage scene, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Barnes Yachting (Company)">BARNES Yachting</a>, founded by Inigo Nicholson in partnership with the luxury real estate firm BARNES International. The combined force of Nicholson, from the family that previously owned <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons International (Company)">Camper and Nicholsons</a> and Director of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1316" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Engel & Völkers Yachting (Company)">Engel and Völkers</a>, and BARNES is a formidable one, and one that is already proving its metal. We sat down with Inigo to find out more about the partnership, the rapid expansion of the brokerage house and his unique approach to the industry.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/278335/image/large-86111aba5350fca567b046e68440b23e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/278335">What inspired BARNES to enter the superyacht brokerage industry and why did you decide to partner with them?As a leading player in international luxury real estate and in the intermediation of luxury services related to ‘Art de Vivre’, completing BARNES’s customer experience with a yachting offer was a natural development. &nbsp;With yachts becoming an increasingly popular alternative to luxury beachfront villas, we felt it was important to provide the widest possible choice of vessels for both sale and charter, whether it be motor yachts or sailing yachts, with the focus always very much on excellence. BARNES International had been considering the move into the yachting industry for a while, recognising the potential that it could utilise its expansive client base and to offer services that transcended the real estate market.&nbsp;BARNES reached out to me about a year ago and proposed that I come onboard to establish and run <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Barnes Yachting (Company)">BARNES Yachting</a>, it was immediately an attractive proposition, as the company only deals with truly high net worth individuals, selling €6.6 billion in properties last year alone. We also share the same values of trust and excellence. I met with the President, Thibault de Saint Vincent at 9:30am and by 18:30 we had an agreement to set up in the sector as a partnership. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/278338/image/large-ec3631d20859c2d18063edd34c7bd69b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/278338">How does&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Barnes Yachting (Company)">BARNES Yachting</a>&nbsp;leverage its partnership with a world-renowned real estate company to provide a unique advantage in the yacht brokerage market?What sets us apart is the bridge that we provide between luxury real estate and yachting, with clients making the natural progression from one to the other, provided that they experience the same level of professionalism and excellence. The platform that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Barnes Yachting (Company)">BARNES</a> offers is almost completely unique. They already have a relationship with over 150,000 high net worth individuals, many of whom own yachts or are interested in doing so. The agreement we have made is that our services complement that of the real estate firm and if one of the BARNES International brokers introduces us to a future client, they also receive a share of commission.&nbsp;This also works the other way around, if our clients are looking for a new property, we make the introduction. There is a real symbiosis between these two industries and the yachting division feels like the missing link that BARNES International has been waiting for.&nbsp;The other advantage is that BARNES International is a world-renowned brand with a highly respected reputation. For our clients, despite being a new player to the sector, that reputation supports BARNES Yachting and our clients know that they can expect world-class service, fair pricing and expert advice when they come to us. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/217617/image/large-724006cad9d350624681280a7a11c6dc.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/217617">How are you finding your brokers and what are you looking for in your team?I am doing something different, because I feel today that there is a saturation of inexperienced brokers who don't truly understand that industry or the market. I am hiring experienced individuals, many of whom come from other sectors of the industry, such as naval architects, lawyers, owner’s representatives and engineers – experts who have a deep knowledge of yachting, the client base and the market.&nbsp;My goal is to find people who have a structural mind, who have experience speaking to clients but who are not only brokers. It has been a really interesting journey, and I am already seeing results from the team we have established. We sold two yachts in the first six weeks of the business, with another already under offer and I believe part of that success is that we are able to answer technical, legal questions in-house with our own expertise.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/220221/image/large-b790020c6591d73b8897f708ad5ef65d.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/220221">Can you tell us about the core values and principles that guide&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Barnes Yachting (Company)">BARNES Yachting</a>&nbsp;in serving its clients?I wanted to find an honest partner, which we have, and I want to serve our clients in a truly transparent way. One thing that all of the team are told immediately is “never sell a boat that you cannot resell within 6 months after purchase.” If you oversell to a client, you will lose them and you will be seen as dishonest and that is something I am very clear about to the team.&nbsp;I also value honesty when it comes to a broker's knowledge, if a broker does not know something, they must tell that to the client and then find the correct answer through our network. My goal is to create a solid relationship with our clients, so like at BARNES International they know they can trust our opinion and our words. I also want to have no more than 15 boats as a central listing at one time, and that's because I want to continue to provide a personal service to our clients.In my opinion the brokerage industry is splitting into two different forms; the marketplace and the boutique. Some of these huge brokerage firms have become a marketplace for yachts, with broker commission and sale price precedent over client satisfaction and experience. We never want to be a marketplace and we will never take on a yacht that we don't know we can sell and sell at the right price for our clients. I am also not afraid to refuse to market a yacht that I don't believe should be for sale at that price. Our business is to sell yachts and give good service to clients. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/265145/image/large-2d7e5dfc570c68fa5878eb41197cc4d3.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/265145">How does&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Barnes Yachting (Company)">BARNES Yachting</a>&nbsp;plan to expand and grow its presence in the yacht brokerage industry in the coming years?We are currently in the process of creating our own YouTube channel because I believe video is going to continue to grow as an important format. The channel will showcase our CA’s and it will also feature charter destinations in the most exclusive format with beautiful visuals to help our clients become inspired for charters. Social media will also be a key part of how we grow, mainly for our charter business rather than in sales.With 130 international offices over the world, BARNES offers an excellent platform for expansion and after three months we are already established in 12 locations including London, Madrid, Dubai, Valencia and Istanbul, and by this September we plan on establishing brokers in Miami and Latin America.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/278337/image/large-22ada559e2a68de2ee1d333c676d9c3b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/278337">Finally, what is your long term vision for&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5463" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Barnes Yachting (Company)">BARNES Yachting</a>?As I have said, my intention is to build an honest relationship with our clients, to offer them knowledge and expertise that they may not find elsewhere and to build on the reputation of BARNES International.&nbsp;When we took over <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons International (Company)">Camper and Nicholsons</a> we made decisions that everyone criticises us for, but in the end we had a very successful business with fantastic brokers and more than 3,000 charters per year. Having been listed for sale through Barin Cardenas at Lucid Yacht Group and Sebastiano Pitasi at Angel &amp; Völkers Yachting, the 37-metre Admiral superyacht Nono has been sold in collaboration with Lon McCloskey of Worth Avenue Yachts and Jukka Kaukonen at KK superyachts, who also introduced the buyer.<img src="https://d3w3pid64ak8v.cloudfront.net/photo/76324/image/large-981c32bb6cf85646802bfe0f3e725d91.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/76324">Nono was launched in 2014 and designed by Luca Dini. Superyacht Why Worry for sale with  Engel & Volkers

Jurgen Koch of Fraser Yachts has reported the sale of superyacht Little Sarah. Harry Peralta of Engel &amp; Volkers represented the buyer for this transaction. The 100 SP series sports superyacht, Little Sarah, was built by De Birs in 2008, and was one of the chase boats of superyacht Lady Moura. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/135769/image/large-468c14e87b69bc65c6db8dcea382b6f8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/126563">The Italtecnica/Arrabito-designed composite hull is propelled by two MTU 2,000 hp diesel engines, giving Little Sarah a maximum speed of 28 to 30 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots. She's powered by two 27 KWA diesel generators. The interior of this superyacht, designed by Egg and Dart of Munich, has a natural, rich modern feel that provides luxury and unique multi-functional areas, such as the main salon, the mini flybridge, and dining areas. Engel &amp; Völkers Yachting have announced their appointment for the sale of the 27 metre superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4070" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kereon27.0m (88'7&quot;)AB Yachts2005">Kereon</a>. Built in 2005 by AB Yachts, she offers accommodation for up to six guests in three stylish cabins which include; a master suite, a double cabin and a twin cabin.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/135350/image/large-bcd0bced5f48b7dd01ceab9dccc56229.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/135350">The interior is fitted with minimalist yet cosy furnishings that include deep warm woods which help in creating Kereon’s homely atmosphere.Powered by three Caterpillar engines, Kereon has an impressive cruising speed of 47 knots and can reach a top speed of 53.3 knots.Kereon is currently located in Puerto Banus, Spain, with an asking price of €2,500,000.

Merle Wood and Thom Conboy of Merle Wood &amp; Associates and Engel &amp; Völkers Yachting have announced a price reduction of the 50 metre superyacht Azteca II. Her asking price has been lowered from €19,900,000 to $20,000,000. Iñigo Prado Nicholson has acquired the first licence to sell premium yachts on the Spanish mainland, marking a significant milestone for Engel &amp; Völkers in the expansion of its new Yachting division. This new development, in line with the Licence Partner system used in the company’s real estate operations, sees the initial foundation stone laid for the future distribution of Yachting licences. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/124998/image/large-8dd9ab0544f3c55e95071377734dc954.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/124998">“His extensive knowledge and impressive contacts within the industry make Iñigo Prado Nicholson a valuable partner for us, and I am very confident that he will make a crucial contribution to the upcoming expansion phase of Engel &amp; Völkers Yachting,” said Christian Völkers, CEO of Engel &amp; Völkers AG. Nicholson, who has worked in the yachting industry for over 25 years, will open two Engel &amp; Völkers Yachting shops in Madrid and Puerto Banus/Marbella. The 48-year-old started his career at Solidmark in the 1980s, later moving to a yacht brokerage company. During this period, from 1994 up to 2000, he also started up the enterprise Silver Yachts. After the acquisition of the yacht brokerage company, he went on to manage the Marina Puerto Tarraco in Tarragona, Spain. “Engel und Völkers enjoys one of the best and most high-profile reputations in the international property industry,” said Nicholson. “The company has developed a unique service system, which we’re looking forward to introducing to the Spanish yacht market. I am absolutely convinced that Engel &amp; Völkers will become a key player in the yachting industry over the years to come.” Another 30 Yachting licences are to be distributed throughout Europe during the course of the next three years. As well as establishing bases in traditional hotspots such as St. Tropez, Cannes, Majorca and Sardinia, licences will also be assigned in major cities like Paris, Zurich and Milan. Future partners in the Yachting division will benefit from the high profile of the Engel &amp; Völkers brand, its global presence in exclusive locations and its affluent client base.

Engel & Völkers starts distribution of yachting licences

Engel &amp; Voelkers are expanding into the world of yachting.
