Arcadia has captured a niche corner of a marketplace hungry for innovation with its trend-setting series of composite motor yachts. That perseverance has paid off with a total of 50 units between 60 and 115 feet delivered to date, many of them to repeat clients, and the company enjoyed a record increase in sales in 2022.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250957/image/large-0282ee97173d30ad2201be47cfd4d8f6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250957">“Beginning with the A85, our products have always been innovative but divisive,” says Francesco Ansalone, marketing &amp; communications manager at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1726" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arcadia Yachts (Company)">Arcadia</a>. “There are those that like the A85, but perhaps it’s not fast enough for them; others prefer the sporty performance of the Sherpa 80, but it doesn’t have the same interior volume. So we began looking for something new to grow our brand offering that combined the best of both and plugged the gap between the A85 and the A105.” &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250964/image/large-c5533e01ff4b71b18c4530772871de87.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250964"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250965/image/large-23abab3df1f595799aefadeeb26ec502.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250965">Enter the new A96, a 29-metre tri-decker based on the Sherpa 80’s semi-planing hull form and due to debut at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/172" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cannes Yachting Festival - 2023">2023 Cannes Yachting Festival</a>. Hull #1 will be powered by four <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5350" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Volvo Penta (Company)">Volvo Penta</a> IPS 1350 drives that deliver manoeuvrability, long range, low emissions, acoustic comfort and a top speed of 24 knots. With a beam of almost eight metres, the yacht offers flexible living spaces and accommodation for 10 guests in five cabins, including a master stateroom on the main deck forward.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250966/image/large-a79c07f665aa80d6415ed007f5e9ac93.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250966">The purposeful exterior lines developed in-house by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1726" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arcadia Yachts (Company)">Arcadia</a> retain the brand’s distinctive design DNA, although in this case the superstructure styling is a touch more sculpted. The new model heralds a styling refresh of the complete range, but the trademark solar panels on the roof remain. There are fewer of them, but improvements in efficiency mean they still produce up to 4.5kW of renewable energy per hour, sufficient to power essential hotel services excluding the air-conditioning.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250967/image/large-0487b8660e4eef2ad54072ca1c04920c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250967">Fold-down aft bulwarks increase the footprint of the cockpit on the main deck to create a spacious seaside terrace overlooking the stern platform. Smaller deployable balconies on either side of the main saloon and dining room augment this effect. There are more open-air chill-out zones on the upper deck aft and the foredeck, which serves as both a storage area for tenders and toys – with a crane tucked away out of sight behind the port-side bulwark – and cosy conversation corner or private retreat to practise yoga. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250969/image/large-9c641c195cd1e971e1d490d4fd222081.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250969">But what really distinguishes the A96 is the expanse of full-height glass connecting the living areas to the open decks and outdoor environment. Moreover, in the main salon and sky lounge these open on all three sides to increase natural ventilation and facilitate guest circulation. The use of flat laminated glass is a defining characteristic that lends the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1726" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arcadia Yachts (Company)">Arcadia</a> range its distinctive look. On the one hand it provides unmatched visibility and illumination; on the other, it has been specially engineered to insulate against too much light, heat or sound from penetrating the interior. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250971/image/large-9ef6bbfe32931b7cf2142b22b5713256.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250971">For the interior design <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1726" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arcadia Yachts (Company)">Arcadia</a> called in <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1124" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lobanov Design (Company)">Igor Lobanov</a>, a designer best known for the fluid exterior styling of superyachts such as 85-metre St. Princess Olga and 110-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4796" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kaos110.1m (361'3&quot;)Oceanco2017">Jubilee</a> (now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4796" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kaos110.1m (361'3&quot;)Oceanco2017">Kaos</a>), but he was also responsible for the exterior and interior design of the Mangusta 104 REV. The restrained elegance of the interior aboard the A96 accords with another of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1726" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arcadia Yachts (Company)">Arcadia’s</a> driving principles: to take yachting back to its original principles by avoiding ostentatious opulence and the impractical futurism of many yacht interiors. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250963/image/large-dd603920ec43235d2cf7fc3fff672310.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250963">“True luxury today means enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation, and so the brief from the shipyard was to create an interior that radiated a feeling of well-being,” says the Barcelona-based designer. “This was great for us as we love working with natural materials and there’s nothing fake, synthetic or pretentious on board. We also wanted to take the interior design to a higher level on a par with what you might find on a much larger yacht.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250959/image/large-3c81f4df67e179108d4a50c7fefa73d8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250959">Part of recreating that superyacht feel is the sensation of having space to spare. In fact, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1124" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lobanov Design (Company)">Lobanov Design</a> worked with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1726" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arcadia Yachts (Company)">Arcadia’s</a> technical office to design everything in 3D in order to maximise the available volumes and secure the boundaries between the interior, construction, mechanical and other technical needs such as piping and cabling &nbsp;– always a challenge when dealing with net spaces defined by floor-to-ceiling glass windows. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250970/image/large-a337d5b938284f602a9a2aca0be32766.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250970">Other design solutions that boost the sensation of being on a larger yacht are more illusory than real and make up part of the designer’s toolbox of trade smarts. The windows in the lower deck cabins, for example, are framed in such a way as to make them appear larger and the beds are placed facing outboard to take in the panorama outside.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/250961/image/large-266b9c34f355d42021b9d5eb98c362c2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/250961">The ‘wellness’ motif is highlighted with natural materials and tactile textures such as an open-pored finish for the wood veneers and a leather finish for the Taj Mahal marble in the bathrooms.
