Marine equipment supply services provider <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2550" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Global Services (Company)">Global Services</a> has announced the appointment of Ian Cooke as its Chairman and shareholder. Qualified marine engineer Paul Madeley joins the Global Services team in Palma to support both operational yachts and refit projects in the area. His solid superyacht engineering background ensures he is well placed to help and advise crew and management teams on effective procurement for engineering equipment and supplies. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/137826/image/large-3b6cb71769b5b72933b1a4a304676dbe.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/137826">Paul comments, “My aspirations are to build client awareness that Global Services can really add value by assisting crew to specify and source the right equipment at the right price, in the right place.” A UK Chartered Engineer and Qualified Ship Superintendent, Paul’s experience includes technical management on a number of new build projects as well as assisting on-board crew with surveys prior to refit. His skills make him a huge asset to the Global Services sales team, enabling him to advise on-board engineers and crew from first-hand experience. Palma has long been a mainstay port of the yachting industry and a natural choice in which to extend the Global Services operation. Managing Director, Richard Gardiner, explains, “Customers are savvy, they want the best service but at the right price. Increasing our presence on the Island and having experts in engineering as well as galley and interior helps us to better serve customers in the area”. Global Services expands Palma operation

Deckers Uniforms has announced the appointment of Global Services as their UK Agent Representative, following a successful METS Show. Deckers Uniforms appoints Global Services as UK representative

Once upon a time, at the 2011 Pinmar Golf Tournament, Cinderella and her two Ugly Sisters raised over €17,000 for a number of charities including Great Ormond Street Hospital . Whizzing around the lush greens on their drink laden carriage, the pantomime trio accosted unsuspecting golfers swapping booze for cash donations. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/137029/image/large-13bd2cbcb4e0517c846174b1eb73dedf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/137029">No strangers to the fairways of the Pinmar golf course, this is the third year in a row Richard Gardiner (Global Services) and Roger Horner (e3 Systems) have donned fancy dress for charity. Richard commented, “Both Roger and I would like to thank the competitors, captains and crew for their generosity, good humour and fantastic sense of fun. We are delighted with the money raised - it makes the wigs and corsets worthwhile!” The highest donation of the two days came from Captain Richard Hutchinson of <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/186">Rasselas</a> who generously paid over one and a half thousand pounds for a small Coca Cola, with Neil Sherman from Sensory International, Rob Tobin from Dohle, John Masters from Le Mirage and Derik Wagner from MTN also donating substantial sums to the Ugly Sisters. After three years of sister-ship, previously posing as nuns and nurses, Richard and Roger have decided to hang up their stockings and hand the keys of the carriage over. The buggy was auctioned off for the princely sum of €6000 to Lee McGuire of LM Marine and David Ireland of Deckers. David comments, “Deckers are looking forward to the challenge of raising money for the charity together with LM Marine over the coming years. Both Lee and I agree that there will need to be some serious brain-storming to follow the fantastic achievements Richard and Roger have made during their time as the Ugly Sisters but we are ready to rise to the challenge and looking forward to it. Watch this space...” Cinders (Amanda Butler of Savills, Mallorca) and the Ugly Sisters were delighted to receive a standing ovation from over 900 guests at the annual PINMAR dinner in recognition of their fundraising efforts. Ugly sisters raise a wicked sum for charity at Pinmar Golf Tournament

Exeter based superyacht supplier Global Services has seen productivity and sales increase thanks to a bespoke internal IT system designed by Bristol software firm Spark Data Systems. Global Services and Spark first worked together around five years ago, when Spark provided support for Global Services’ legacy application, as Peter Marshall, director at Spark explains: “We originally started working with Global Services back in 2006, and at that time, they had a fairly unstable system. When we first came on board, we stabilised the system and then worked with Global Services to identify areas that required implementing or upgrading to help gain control of the company operations.” But as Global Services continued to grow, it became clear that the shelf-life of its system was limited, and they needed something that could provide more flexibility and better management information. “We realised that we needed something that offered real scalability,” says IT manager Doug Grover. “We needed a system that would allow us to manage all company operations from one place, that could be accessed from any machine and that was not reliant on a desktop application.” Spark specified and developed a new browser based application and re-designed the SQL Server database to create a system that could efficiently handle Global Services’ ever-expanding internal processes. Doug continues, “the new implementation has made a big difference to the way the business runs, from accounts and sales right through to warehousing. We have increased capacity and increased efficiency – the productivity of our sales people has soared which has resulted in increased sales and in turn, an increase in our net profit, so we are very pleased with the results so far.” But, says Doug, the fact the company has gone online internally does not mean they will be changing the way they run their business externally. “We are very much a service focussed company, and we are not interested in running an e-commerce site. We have one to one relationships with our customers and like to do things on a bespoke basis, so you won’t see us offering an online one stop super yacht shop". “But that is not to say that we will not be continuing to work with Spark to develop our system and offer our customers something a bit more interactive. Boost in sales for superyacht supplier thanks to Spark

This week, superyacht suppliers Global Services officially launches a specialist company division focussing on services for New Build projects. Consolidating over 15 years of new build project expertise, ‘Global Services New Build’ offers a range of services designed to provide yards, build crew and project managers with timely and effective support throughout the build process. Services include ‘storage and consolidated shipping’, ‘specialist labeling and barcoding’ and ‘yacht inventory’. Over the past 15 years, Global Services has been involved with over 300 new build projects ranging from 30m to 160m plus. Founder of the company Richard Gardiner explains, ‘We understand the project life cycle and have refined our range of New Build services to reflect this. Our staff have accumulated a tremendous amount of experience working with new build projects and by providing a dedicated service, we’re ultimately improving our customer service and experience’. Global Services New Build division offers a comprehensive ‘inventory service’ which involves cataloguing all major onboard equipment and listing the spares required throughout the yacht’s lifetime. Working closely with the major planned maintenance software companies ensures the information collected is easily reconcilable with onboard planned maintenance systems. Guy Sayers, Build Engineer on a Gigayacht delivered in 2010 comments, "I worked closely with Global Services for over 2 ½ years with regard to the procurement , organisation and delivery of the technical spares and tools inventory for the vessel. This stock ran into many thousands of individual items of considerable total asset value. An excellent rapport was developed due to Global Services intimate understanding of the business and the build process. It was as if we had employed another highly experienced member on our build team.’ Storage and consolidated shipping is also an extremely useful provision for yachts in build. Richard adds, ‘New Build projects can purchase a large amount of equipment but not necessarily have the capacity for storing it. We’ll hold goods, sending consolidated shipments as and when the yacht requires it, freeing up space for yachts in build and cutting down on shipment costs".
