The 16th edition of the 151 Miglia-Trofeo Cetilar sets sail today from Livorno, Italy, marking the fourth event of the International Maxi Association’s 2024-25 Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge. Following October’s Rolex Middle Sea Race, the event is part of a prestigious seven-race series concluding with the Palermo-Montecarlo in August.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/362105/image/large-484b167212bc08196f5074981a2ef504.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/362105">Jointly organised by the Yacht Club Repubblica Marinara di Pisa, Yacht Club Punta Ala and Yacht Club Livorno, this year’s race features a new route designed to showcase the stunning Tuscan archipelago.Starting off Livorno, the fleet will initially head to a mark off Marina di Pisa before rounding the island of Gorgano to port. From there, competitors will bear south towards the island of Pianosa, turn east towards Formiche di Grosseto and round a mark in the Piombino Channel off the northeast tip of Elba before heading back to the finish off Punta Ala.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/362107/image/large-4c59194ff495f21a6e5730ca84528588.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/362107">Among the 229 registered entries are 13 maxi yachts (IRC Over 60), with Furio Benussi’s <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/11572" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Arca SGR 30.48m (100'0&quot;)The Yard Brisbane2003">ARCA SGR</a> returning as the scratch boat and line honours favourite. The 30.48-metre yacht has secured three line honours victories in this event, most recently winning the maxi class outright under IRC in 2022.“I am really happy about the new course around the Tuscan islands,” said Benussi, noting the challenges ahead. “We have five weather models and none of them agree. One shows us finishing in 13 hours, which could break the race record of 13 hours, 50 minutes, 43 seconds set by Rambler 88 in 2019. Third-placed in 2024, the 24-metre maxi yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4273" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Capricorno24.0m (78'9&quot;)McConaghy Boats1995">Nice</a> (formerly Capricorno), will again be helmed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7599" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ICE Yachts (Company)">ICE Yachts</a> President Marco Malgara, who is also fielding the ICE 66RS Tapioca, owned by José Agnaldo Andrade Júnior.Beyond the competitive element, the 151 Miglia-Trofeo Cetilar remains renowned for its camaraderie and shore-side celebrations.
