In conversation with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova Design</a>: “Today’s clients want spaces that feel personal, warm and connected to the sea rather than purely impressive.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377379/image/large-2f4235ac63d70aec60f3f85fdb7277c6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377379">For Giulia Grassi, founder of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova Design</a>, which has offices in Lake Como, Monaco and Miami, the path to yacht design began in the marinas of Monaco. Walking &nbsp;with her grandfather, a residential interior designer known for his work with clients such as Elvis Presley, Liberace and members of various royal families. Surrounded by gleaming yachts, those early visits proved formative, inspiring her interest in yacht design. “I asked him to buy me one of the yachts,” she recalls. “He told me, ‘Sweetie, what’s even more rewarding than owning one is to be the designer of it.’”That remark, and her grandfather’s example of being a self-made man, became the catalyst for Giulia’s pursuit of design. After completing her studies, she began her career in Monaco as an intern and eventually rose to head the yachting department at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5440" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sabrina Monte-Carlo (Company)">Sabrina Monte-Carlo</a>. Her time there, she says, gave her solid technical grounding and insight into the expectations of yacht clients.SuperYacht Times sat down with Giulia to discuss her decision to establish <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova Design</a>, the refit of the 52-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a>, the studio’s expansion into residential work, and her views on evolving trends in yacht interiors.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377380/image/large-f461764a550db0bdddeeb5b28e350db9.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377380">Founding&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova Design Studio</a>Reflecting on her decision to establish <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova Design</a> in 2022, Giulia describes it as “a natural step in my journey.” After several years leading the yachting department at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5440" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sabrina Monte-Carlo (Company)">Sabrina Monte-Carlo</a>, she felt it was time to create something of her own. “I wanted to build a studio that reflected my personal vision,” she says, “bringing together a collective of young designers and architects from both the yachting and residential worlds, all sharing the same passion for the sea.”What began as a solo venture soon evolved into a family enterprise and a small team of designers joining as new projects came in.Collaboration, she explains, lies at the heart of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova’s</a> identity. Many of the artisans she works with today once collaborated with her grandfather. “They’ve known me since I was a child,” she adds. “It was important to give something back to them, and together we can offer yacht owners pieces that truly reflect their personality and lifestyle.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377378/image/large-a6475448d6bb9a5ddb89c8125e833d21.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377378">The refit of&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova’s</a> first major project was the interior refit of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a>, a 52-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> built in the 1990s and completed at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4405" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="IMS Shipyard (Company)">IMS Shipyard</a> in the South of France. The owner acquired the yacht for family cruising and occasional charter use, with the brief to enhance comfort without compromising her original character.“The aim was to create spaces that could accommodate a large family while preserving the elegance and identity of such a beautiful vessel,” Giulia explains.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377374/image/large-554a2770696b0c4d629de3da6dafc084.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377374">The scope of work was ambitious, involving the complete redesign of the main and upper decks. “After the drawings were approved, we had just four months to complete the work, and we handled everything in-house with our artisans, from fabrication to installation,” she continues. “Completing the refit on schedule without compromising quality was our absolute priority.”The decision to carry out the refit at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4405" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="IMS Shipyard (Company)">IMS</a> came from the owner’s project management team. The shipyard oversaw all technical aspects, including the restoration of the engines, which were removed and reinstalled during the process. “It required close cooperation between us and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4405" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="IMS Shipyard (Company)">IMS</a> to keep the timeline on track,” Giulia recalls. “While they focused on the engineering work, we coordinated our interior installation around it to ensure the yacht could be relaunched on time.” The refit later received the Best in Refit award at the 2025 International Superyacht Society Awards during the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/273" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show - 2025">Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2025</a>.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377381/image/large-70cec902c3d0a687539486452ed1423e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377381">Following the completion of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a>, Supernova soon undertook another project, the refit of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/13962" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zaffiro27.0m (88'7&quot;)Canados1974">Zaffiro</a>, a 27-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/560" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Canados (Company)">Canados</a>. “The owners approached me after hearing about our work on <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a>,” Giulia says. “It was very much word of mouth.”This time, the brief came from within the same family, who wanted to adapt <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/13962" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zaffiro27.0m (88'7&quot;)Canados1974">Zaffiro</a> primarily for charter use. “They told me they needed the yacht prepared for a specific purpose, and we began a close collaboration,” she explains. One of the family members, a professional singer, wished to use the yacht as a setting for small private performances and events, so the sun deck was redesigned as an open, flexible area. “We dismantled all the fixed furniture and restored the teak deck to create a completely free space,” Giulia adds. “That way, it can be configured for concerts, private gatherings or simply to enjoy time with guests.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377375/image/large-5f9f87464be53fed13de5673a7056bb9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377375"> Evolving trends in yacht interior designGiulia observes that yacht interiors have undergone a marked transformation in recent years, shifting from displays of opulence to expressions of lifestyle and emotion. “Today’s clients want spaces that feel personal, warm and connected to the sea rather than purely impressive,” she explains. “Interiors from the 1990s were often defined by gold accents and glossy finishes, whereas now we see softer, more organic shapes and natural materials inspired by light and nature.”Sustainability, she adds, is increasingly central to this change. “Many owners today are conscious of their environmental impact and are looking for more energy-efficient systems and timeless design solutions,” Giulia notes. “Among the clients I work with, roughly half place strong emphasis on eco-friendly choices, while others prioritise time and cost. The younger generation tends to be more environmentally focused, but even long-standing yacht owners are beginning to adopt the same attitude."<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377377/image/large-2b19354e0591cc38966ebe5af9db0b28.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377377">Supernova’s</a>&nbsp;future directionAs for current work and future direction, Giulia shares that the studio is presently engaged in the refit of a 20-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a> built in the 1960s. “Our focus is on restoring her original character while giving her a new lease of life,” she states.Giulia acknowledges that while <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova</a> has focused on refit interior projects, the team is also open to new-build opportunities. “Refit projects have defined our identity,” she says. “They require creativity, precision and strong problem-solving skills. We already have a few requests for new builds and see this as a natural progression for the studio. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a> explained, "The owner's vision was crystal clear: he had fallen in love with this <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> but wanted to refresh it both technically and aesthetically – &nbsp;inside and out – while maintaining the classic character of the yacht, but with a contemporary look. After the plans were approved in December, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a> was completed and had re-entered the water come April 2024. “It was a true pleasure modernising such a beautiful yacht as this <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> 52m, originally designed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/245" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Stefano Natucci (Company)">Stefano Natucci</a>, whose work was truly exceptional,” <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Spadolini</a>-led refit was centered around modernising the superyacht’s exterior design with a refreshed, contemporary aesthetic, as well as upgrading her technology, which required renewal after over three decades of use.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354493/image/large-b7fa700a7679216f8d3c2b12befc0096.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354493"> <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354487/image/large-d91c96a58f56f4ead4e2889f933572fd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354487"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Spadolini</a> recounted, ”We started with the yacht’s original cream colour, which we replaced with white, adding dark stripes and stainless-steel grids for a sleeker look. In particular, we focused on the aft area of the main deck, which was initially designed to house two tenders. We transformed it into a lounge area that can be enjoyed while cruising or at anchor. The sunbathing area, which doubles as a platform to land helicopters during navigation, had its entire structure reinforced and was equipped with movable furniture and an ‘H’ design across its teak floor.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354530/image/large-0430bece8551d384b029dd9abbc756f3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354530"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354518/image/large-d95302f2c8fa29c3d9e83e1f256d9c42.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354518"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354520/image/large-18b050b2f30f8c86ef02196e77c9f2e2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354520">Furthermore, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a> has had her electrical system completely overhauled, while also benefitting from upgrades to the navigation aids and connectivity systems for the latest technological standards. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354495/image/large-084429585495eda67dddbb087c424de7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354495"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354498/image/large-e40eef3fadbd32a06098f7c10dfc4395.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354498"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354528/image/large-bc94071db5a3d9fb5992421d6321f6c2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354528">Moving inside, designer Giulia Grassi, owner of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova Design Studio</a>, was tasked with preserving the vessel’s history while simultaneously introducing modern design details. Here, the aim was to enhance the bright and contemporary feel of the living spaces, while also building upon the classic 1990s furniture, without sacrificing <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a>’s interior character.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354539/image/large-4320a66332431b035dc499888b5f2e2c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354539"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354531/image/large-73a069cedb82b6f50b7c52917880637a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354531">Grassi commented: “The owner requested more seating capacity – both in terms of lounge areas and cabins. We carried out a full transformation of the spaces, optimising them by reorganising internal partitions and adding custom-designed furniture, like sofas and pieces that reflected the yacht’s overall aesthetic. For example, we removed some built-in furniture from the dining area on the main deck to make room for a table that could comfortably seat the entire family. The outdoor areas were also enhanced with custom cushions and modular furniture which increase comfort and flexibility, particularly in the new aft area of the main deck where the connection to the sea is now more intimate than ever.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354534/image/large-743cc573dd3647523b716f6647597317.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354534"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354533/image/large-e6d0a781322748d6fe722f71bc08af19.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354533">When it comes to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/268" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Solafide52.0m (170'7&quot;)Benetti SpA1995">Solafide</a>’s main deck, the furniture has been removed and the bulky curtains scrapped for a sense of aerial spaciousness. Not only that, but the seating arrangements have been expanded and the furniture has been redesigned with custom-made pieces, apart from the armchairs and chairs. The saloon’s sofa, for instance, was conceived with built-in storage and the side tables that can be converted into extra seating to host more family members.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354532/image/large-201ddabeb50ccfcbbd7589c6ef81e75f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354532"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354536/image/large-035824d087e119a61160b94f85fdaf9c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354536">New life has also been breathed into the dining room, where the partition was repositioned aft, paving the way for more room. In addition, the floor has been replaced and now dons a white onyx-coloured section beneath the table, paired with a backlit, colour-changing wall. Meanwhile, a system of mirrors ensures that the sea is within view of every seat at the dining table.Although the owner’s suite remains mostly unchanged, several of the upper deck living areas have been repurposed. For example, the lounge area now has the ability to transform into a stateroom for sleeping guests when it isn’t being used as an interactive TV room with a bespoke sofa crafted by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Supernova Design Studio (Company)">Supernova Design Studio</a>. The upper deck is also home to a new VIP stateroom.&nbsp;Moving outdoors, the aft exterior area has been upgraded with new furniture and air conditioning. The 56-metre&nbsp;H01&nbsp;enters the final stages of construction more than ten years after her keel was laidIt is always disastrous when a yacht goes up in flames, especially when the boat is brand new and just weeks away from delivery. This is what happened in 2009 when an electrical fire aboard a 52.5-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/375" href="https://sya.superyachttimes.com/news#managed-by-system">Baglietto</a> (hull 10202) destroyed everything except the steel hull. When the shipyard succumbed to debt and closed down the following year, it looked as though the hull would be consigned to the scrap heap.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/79748/image/large-72ac66969de20699ffb20d87b8073888.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/79748">Most people are unnerved when ‘fire’ and ‘yacht’ are mentioned in the same sentence, but not the owner of Project H01 approaching completion at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4405" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="IMS Shipyard (Company)">IMS</a> 700 shipyard near Toulon. The 56-metre yacht is based on the undamaged hull of the burnt-out <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/375" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Baglietto S.p.A. (Company)">Baglietto</a> and how it ended up in France is something of a minor miracle, having survived not only the original fire but also two shipyard bankruptcies.&nbsp;The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/554" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lloyds Ships (Company)">Lloyds</a>-certified hull was purchased by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/72" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mondo Marine SpA (Company)">Mondomarine</a> in 2013 and stood on the hard in Savona until a contract was signed in early 2016 with the current owner (who also owns 49-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/117" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Glaze49.08m (161'0&quot;)Trinity Yachts, LLC2007">Glaze</a> launched by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity Yachts</a> as Lady Michelle in 2007) to create a new yacht based on the surviving hull. Work began on lengthening the aft section by three metres and building a restyled aluminium superstructure. A year later, however, the project ground to a halt when <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/72" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mondo Marine SpA (Company)">Mondomarine</a> also ran into financial difficulties.The owner’s team moved quickly to get the yacht out of the yard, and out of Italy, to avoid seizure during the bankruptcy proceedings. In the summer of 2017 the bare boat was towed to the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4405" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="IMS Shipyard (Company)">IMS</a> 700 shipyard in the south of France, initially as a temporary haven while other shipyards in northern Europe were approached to finish the yacht.“I spent three months visiting yards in Holland, who variously quoted me 26 months and over 30 million euros to complete the build,” says Clement Gartner, the owner’s representative. “I just couldn’t understand those kinds of lead times and costs when we already had a hull and superstructure and engines and generators.”&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/79752/image/large-90cc3dda4de264e225be954e2f7e23be.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/79752">After consulting with the owner, Gartner decided to set up his own company and assume responsibility for finishing the build himself. Hull CNE (CNE stands for Creative Naval Engineering) is based on an open-book style of management whereby the owner is treated more as a business partner than a client and provided with the financial information to empower him to make better decisions.“It’s the safest way today for an owner to protect his investment,” says project manager Mauricio Weiszberger, who was formerly commercial director for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/599" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Couach Yachts (Company)">Couach</a>. “It involves the owner in the day-to-day running of the project and provides total transparency of achievements and goals, as opposed to the traditional financial model based on a series of deposits.”Gartner decided to stay put and rent space inside the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4405" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="IMS Shipyard (Company)">IMS</a> facility. He gathered a small team of multinational managers around him and is relying on local contractors to finish building the vessel. At the time of my visit in early April, the main machinery and gearboxes had been installed, piping and cabling were well under way, work had started on the interior and the first showcoat had been applied. The cocoon will be dismantled at the end of May for launching and H01 is due to make her debut at the <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2019">Monaco Yacht Show</a>.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/79749/image/large-74e5865d1c7c15b6d66491ac9b79b406.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/79749">“The owner has already taken his current yacht around the world, but this time he was looking to go further afield and would like to transit the Northwest Passage,” says Gartner. “He wanted a bigger boat with more volume and a lot of amenities for family use and charter, but didn’t want to stray much over 55 metres because of berthing restrictions.”&nbsp;He certainly got more volume: the original <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/375" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Baglietto S.p.A. (Company)">Baglietto</a> was under 700 gross tons, but following her reconfiguration and hull extension H01 is rated at a whopping 840 gross tons arranged over five decks, including an under lower deck. The sundeck is now enclosed by glass sliding doors and the aft section has been extended and reinforced to serve as a touch-and-go helipad. Set into the foredeck is a 4.5-metre pool with active current for swimming (the bulbous bow serves as a heated holding tank for the water when the yacht is underway).&nbsp;She even has an extra observation deck, which required redesigning the mast to raise the height of the radomes (because H01 is based on a pre-existing hull, she is being built to LY2 criteria but will also carry Red Ensign Group Yacht Code notation, which updates the outgoing LY3 and PYC codes for yachts over 24 metres in length in commercial use).&nbsp;Traces of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/586" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Francesco Paszkowski (Company)">Francesco Paszkowsk</a><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/586" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Francesco Paszkowski (Company)">i’s</a> original styling are discernible, but much of the superstructure has been completely redesigned by Gartner and his team. Although the forward-leaning windscreen on the bridge deck adds a hint of expedition-style purposefulness to the overall design, Gartner points out that the owner wanted “a world cruiser that didn’t look like an explorer; in other words, a luxury car rather than a commercial truck.”&nbsp;H01 will be powered by twin CAT engines (2000kW @ 1600 rpm) for a top speed of 17 knots and a range at cruising speed in excess of 4,000 nautical miles. She is fitted with a capable 150kW ABT TRAC bow thruster and her Vosper Naiad stabiliser fins were increased in size by 40 per cent, requiring local hull reinforcements and more powerful hydraulics. Her <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3528" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Condaria (Company)">Condaria</a> AC system was also beefed up to deal with tropical climates.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/79750/image/large-cdce00fe6b2c06a9ac5682f4a69095cd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/79750">The revised interior layout provides for four guest cabins on the lower deck, an owner’s suite on the forward main deck and a sixth cabin for staff or a pilot on the bridge deck, which shares a steam shower with the adjacent massage room. The enclosed sundeck will feature a bar and gym while the under lower deck houses cold and dry stores, a dedicated laundry and additional storage space.&nbsp;Most importantly, special attention has been devoted to wheelchair access with wide corridors and doorways, under-deck drains instead of sills for exterior thresholds, and an elevator that links the lower deck accommodation with the sundeck.&nbsp;“Very few yachts are designed with the mobility challenged in mind,” Gartner points out. “This has always surprised me as family charters often include elderly parents who might have difficulty moving around a boat. The challenge was to provide easy access for these people, but make it look like any other yacht.”&nbsp;The interior design has been devised in-house in collaboration with the owner and his wife in a contemporary classic style. Based on satin-finished mahogany and contrasting off-white soft furnishings, the decor will feature exotic marble floors and backlit agate and quartz. The owner also requested a mahogany finish for the cabinets in the galley, which has been designed as a show kitchen with a teriyaki station. &nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/79751/image/large-cbdeb011c9235cda88cff27a1dbb3cc0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/79751">Once superyacht H01 is complete, the Hull CNE team is planning to move on to the next project and an in-house design for a 46-metre explorer design is already on the table. Burgess Marine has announced their partnership with IMS Shipyard 300 &amp; 700. Conveniently located close to Marseille, the IMS facilities are situated in Toulon, France. The IMS 700 Shipyard boasts a 670 tonne travel-lift, and four fully refurbished aircraft hangers capable of taking four 60+ metre superyachts each. Burgess Marine Partners with IMS 300 & 700

Just nine months after the start of building work, IMS Shipyard in Toulon Bay has announced that the first yacht at the facility has been successfully hauled out of the water by the new travelift on the IMS 700 site. The yacht was hauled out on the 10th of December, five days ahead of schedule.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/152006/image/large-63c7e22b8e957269281cb630f3270202.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/152006">Now the largest yacht repair shipyard in the Mediterranean, the site is intended for yacht refit, repair and maintenance and designed to house boats from 20 to 80 metres, and will boast an unrivalled capacity in terms of numbers in the Mediterranean. The IMS 300 and IMS 700 sites together are able to accommodate up to 100 yachts simultaneously.Denis Pellegrino, President of IMS Shipyard, discusses the construction of the new yard, stating, “This is a rare and extremely stimulating development project for all of us. We are proud to have successfully completed the first stage of the challenge. I would like to thank the members of our teams and those at Eiffage. This is just the beginning!”Haul-outs will be taking place throughout next week, taking up to 12 yachts. This is a partial opening of the site to satisfy demand while the last phase of the works is completed. IMS 700 welcomes first superyacht at shipyard

IMS Shipyard has released further details and a video of the progress of the extension of their facilities based in Toulon, France. The highly anticipated project is now in it’s final stages and will house up to one hundred 20 to 80 metre yachts simultaneously all year round upon completion.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151747/image/large-4b8b4bc024856ddb8423c2c533706d3d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151747">Amongst the work involved in the colossal project, 2,700 square metres of earth has been removed and reused, over 6,000 tonnes of asphalt has already been used, 2,000 tonnes of piles for supporting the constructions in the maritime zone (hauling dock, breakwater and yacht pontoon) have been installed, 4,500 square metres of paint has been applied and 80 members of staff in total have been working full time on the project.During the summer, 80 forty metre tall piles were implanted at the bottom of the maritime area. The 670 tonne lifting equipment (Travelift) was delivered unassembled at the beginning of July, and the shipyard report that the assembly operation went smoothly. The impressive 19 metre high machine that represents an investment in excess of €2 million for IMS Shipyard is now operational on the IMS 700 site.In September work began on the second phase of the 37,000 square metre central platform: civil engineering work above the implanted piles and transforming the buildings into workshops, offices, reception and recreational areas for crews.IMS Shipyard is the largest yacht repair shipyard on the Mediterranean, with the current extension making it possible to increase the shipyard’s capacity five fold, as well as broadening the services they are able to offer. The largest yacht repair shipyard in the Mediterranean will open their Ims 700 site mid-December in the heart of Toulon bay. This is particularly relevant for yachts of up to 90 metres long, thanks to a water depth of up to ten metres.The new shipyard will boast over 130,000 square metres of surface area, a figure that is substantially larger than existing shipyards. It will also offer a large private, protected maritime zone and gigantic sheds with a ceiling height of up to 15 metres for long term work and material storage, one of the most impressive set of tools on the Mediterranean coast.The shipyard will also provide lifting equipment for up to 670 tonnes under full private management; 100 slots including 25 floating berths; water depth of up to 10 metres for large sailing yachts; long term mooring available for long term work in closed, covered boat sheds; a vast paint workshop; a vacuum system of waste water disposal from the boats; a private and secure site 24/24 and 7/7 including the maritime zone, and much more.The site will be ready to receive its first boats soon, and reservations have already been completed.By Gemma Fottles

Superyacht refit and maintenance specialist IMS Shipyard is expanding and is multiplying its berthing capacities five-fold. At the heart of the Toulon bay, the shipyard is opening 80 additional berths to accommodate up to 100 yachts from twenty to eighty metres in length on its two sites. There is also the 60,000 square metres standing area on the hard (five times the surface area owned by the company on its site IMS 300) and four enormous boat-sheds for housing three yachts up to 50 metres at the same time.The definitive go-ahead to begin work was made possible by the signature of a 30 year temporary occupation agreement between the French Navy, the Toulon conurbation committee (TPM) and YSEC from the holding company Nepteam, owners of IMS Shipyard.
