SuperYacht Times spoke with Alfredo Pacifico, owner of the 30-metre converted tugboat&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a>, to hear about her groundbreaking conversion from working vessel to commercial yacht.Starting out life on the seas as a 1964 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a>-built tug, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> was born with the purpose of large ship recovery. Part of the historical fleet of Rimorchiatori Napoletani — Tugboats of Naples — <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> was built in the Viareggio-based <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> shipyard as a traditional tugboat. From 2014-2015, an intensive two-year conversion at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5775" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Palumbo SY Refit (Company)">Palumbo Shipyard</a> transformed the vessel into a 199 GT 30-metre motor yacht. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/89370/image/large-a2866f696193f7b25137e343dc09723e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/89370">Around 80 percent of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> was replaced or rebuilt, toeing the line between refit and construction project and applying militant technical specifications to change her status from working vessel to commercial yacht. In her full-fledged refurbishment, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> saw fresh hull sheets, a brand-new engine room, and a transformation to all exterior and interior spaces. In terms of technicalities, her internal and external systems were given a new life. Pacifico explained “The engine was replaced with twin <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1483" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cummins Inc. (Company)">Cummins</a> engines of 1000 horsepower, and two <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6231" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kohler Engines (Company)">Kohler</a> 80 KW generators were installed. There are also new water systems and a new electrical system, hydraulic lines, black, grey and white water tanks, and six diesel tanks of 50,000 litres.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/269820/image/large-35d7fee4b58639465be0a6246d9381da.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/269820"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a>’s originary, defining characteristic is her stability: rough seas and adverse weather conditions are storms that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> is built to weather. This defining aspect was not ignored in her refit, rather, it was celebrated. Pacifico told SuperYacht Times “Her new design was drawn up by myself, assisted by a team of five naval engineers each working on a specific section, and two architects,” who shared an objective of creating a yacht that provided guests the chance to “experience the sea without limits.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/269816/image/large-c977f4c8cb7aab8c2be34efa0cef18b9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/269816">With stability in navigation still at her core, the conversion of the 30-metre vessel saw the implementation of a hydraulic steering system by Kobelt, as well as the modification of the propeller system, from one to two shaft propellers. Pacifico told SuperYacht Times “The advantage of converting a tugboat lies in the very characteristics of the tugboat: solidity, stability and large spaces.” These elements native to her beginnings as a working-vessel were retained and rebirthed in her conversion, creating a unique and reliable motoryacht. He continued “The main characteristics of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> are great stability, safety, and ample space, all accompanied by refinement and beauty.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/269814/image/large-938d4d0a35d47eee09eb70ba96a2cfe5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/269814">It is the bones of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> that remained both physically and spiritually. In a deliberate nod to her past, she retains her original external lines, a decision about which her owner remarked “The character of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> remained deliberately unchanged. Four spacious staterooms, including a master suite and VIP stateroom, can accommodate up to ten guests, with an additional three crew cabins that can house six crew members. A new lease of life was injected into Vervece’s interior design by Ida Penta and Francesco Scardaccione. Pacifico explained “I had already been working with Scardaccione and Penta on other projects for some time, and had a very precise idea of what <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a> should look like.” Today, her bright and elegant beach house style characterises <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4764" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vervece30.0m (98'5&quot;)Benetti M&B1964">Vervece</a>’s interior and aids in harmonising her tugboat past with her lavish new identity as a motoryacht. The owner’s suite is located on the main deck forward and complete with a study area, a large ensuite and a private terrace. Her remaining guest staterooms are situated on the lower deck.&nbsp;“Project FB606 was well into construction when she joined the market yet our clients still had plenty of time to personalise her to their taste. The first of the two new motor yachts, dubbed Project Vortex, has been commissioned by an experienced owner.
