The yacht can be customised to her owner’s preferences, with options such as an enclosed or open bridge deck.Interior layout options include a main saloon, which can be configured as a grand lounge or a combined formal dining and living space. The 78 Motor Yacht can feature a semi-enclosed or fully-covered aft deck. The bridge deck is accessed via a timber staircase from the main saloon. The remaining accommodations include a VIP stateroom forward, with its own en suite bathroom, and two staterooms to the port and starboard. Guest accommodations are accessed via a staircase from the main saloon.Her deck space includes a spacious foredeck, which can be finished in multiple configurations, such as with a sun awning or the option to store a tender or a Jet Ski and davit. A garage is found to her port side with additional storage for water sports gear, fishing and diving equipment and a shower. A buzz topic in the superyacht industry as of late is that the superyacht market in Asia has been booming. Claims of increased superyacht sales and a growing enthusiasm for yachting have led to what some are calling a ‘boom’. Curious about the true current state of the Asian yachting market, Kayla Dowling of SuperYacht Times spoke to yachting professionals across the vast region to unpack the current sentiment. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/196283/image/large-09d0302703270e4566d1a98eb6d35790.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/196283">Our first finding is that data from our intelligence system SYT iQ supports the general trend that there is an overall increase of sales in the Asian yacht market at the moment. This upward trend is occurring at two different ends. The first is new builds by shipyards in countries such as Taiwan and China, who are expanding their market share from a collective 6% to a combined 10% between 2019 and 2020. The other end is an increase in yacht sales to countries in the region. SYT’s data reveals that the Asian market is on an upward trajectory. In 2019, eight new build sales and four used yacht sales over 30-metres to Asian buyers were recorded in SYT iQ. In 2020 the number of new yacht sales remained stable, while the number of used sales over 30-metres to Asian clients grew to seven. It is likely that number of new yachts over 30-metres sold to Asian buyers is higher than what the data reflects, as the buyer is often not revealed at the time of the sale of a new build. A sneak peek at the data of the <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yachting-intelligence" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">upcoming SYT market report</a> ‘The State of Yachting 2021' reveals that Asian ownership of superyachts over 40 metres in service now stands at 5.8% of world’s superyacht fleet over 40 metres. The percentage share of Asian ownership of the over 40-metre fleet has remained steady over the past five years, but the world’s fleet of these yachts is constantly growing. This means that the number of Asian-owned yachts over 40 metres has grown steadily, from 91 at the start of 2016, to 109 as of the beginning of 2021. Yacht brokerages like <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1011" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Simpson Marine (Company)">Simpson Marine</a>, established originally in Hong Kong with offices located all over the continent, are experiencing this growth firsthand. The company sold more than 112 new and used yachts in 2020. This phenomenon, appears to be strongest in Hong Kong, “Undoubtedly, Hong Kong is the strongest and most active market in Asia and this has been the case since the 1800s when the region's first yacht clubs opened, and now, all the major brands are represented here”, comments Mike Simpson, owner and founder of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1011" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Simpson Marine (Company)">Simpson Marine</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/52370" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Quick Q&A: Mike Simpson on the Asian market boom (2021-02-10 12:15:00 +0100)">in an earlier interview with SuperYacht Times</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/82262/image/large-771ce8877081c8451dd256c07350167d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/82262">However, this trend is not unique to Hong Kong and is occurring throughout the region. Joshua Lee of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2262" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lee Marine International Brokerage (Company)">Lee Marine</a> in Thailand explained, “When I came to Thailand in 1997, there were a couple of sailing boats. Now, it’s full of production yachts from builders such as <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1912" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Princess Yachts (Company)">Princess Yachts</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunseeker (Company)">Sunseeker</a>.” Additional signs of growth throughout the region are evident, such as in <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a>’s 2020 financial report, which stated that the Asian market comprised 23.5% of the Italian shipbuilder’s total global sales in that year. But, why now? Hong Kong based Eric Noyel, CEO of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Asia Marine (Company)">Asiamarine</a> and representative of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fraser (Company)">Fraser Yachts</a> in Hong Kong, explains that the upward tick in the market comes as a result of several factors. These include the Covid-19 pandemic and its accompanying restrictions, and the fact that there are more than 260 islands surrounding Hong Kong – a logical location for yachting. He commented, “In Hong Kong, you have a very wealthy population who are used to travelling and spending their money in ways that are no longer possible, due to the pandemic and travel restrictions. Now, you have a lot of people, forced to stay home, who have discovered their beautiful natural surroundings.” This sentiment is echoed by yachting professionals at another one of Asia’s budding hubs: Thailand. Joshua Lee said, “In the past Thai people didn't really know what they had at their fingertips, just an hour away by boat. But now, with travel restrictions – Thai people are not allowed to leave the country and they have reacquainted themselves with the natural beauty of their own country. The concentration of wealth, he noted, is also one of the largest contributors to the increase in yacht sales: “Hong Kong is the only place on earth where a yacht is cheaper than a house. You don’t get much for your money here, in terms of real estate. So with extra cash and no travel, Hong Kong’s wealthy have honed in on yacht purchases.” Though there has been a cultural shift towards the yachting lifestyle, local regulations and restrictions, as well as a lack of infrastructure, have undermined the yachting industry’s potential, a point echoed by yachting professionals throughout the region. For example, Eric Noyel notes that he foresees somewhat of a hindrance to yachting’s potential in Hong Kong, due to restrictions that serve as a roadblock for larger superyachts: “We’ve seen an increase in the amount of berthing space available, due to the addition of the Lantau Marina. So now we have more space, but due to local restrictions, such as gaining access to permits for yachts around 30-metre plus, I don’t think that we are going to see 60-metre plus superyachts because there are too many limitations.” However, Eric Noyel pointed out that the restrictions on superyachts that exist in Hong Kong do not necessarily reflect the rest of the region. Ian Hewitt of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5293" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Derani Yachts (Company)">Derani Yachts</a> in Thailand, explained that some progress has been made in accommodating yachts in Thailand: “The Thai Yachting Business Association (TYBA) has pushed for several years to allow superyacht charters for non-Thai flagged boats in Thailand. With the removal of this restriction, in combination with the recent measures to allow foreign superyacht visitors to come to Thailand and quarantine on their yacht, we hope to see an increase in charter traffic.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/196280/image/large-269d006a3d93b8e36b3d825911b3930c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/196280">To what extent the superyacht market is truly booming throughout Asia remains unclear. But one thing is for certain: that the vast region has acquired an affinity for yachting. Joshua Lee described Asia as the yachting industry’s “sleeping giant”, which is currently going through an awakening. The real boom, Eric Noyel claims,“ is happening in the 18-40 metre range, those are mostly people who have upgraded from a smaller boat.” The real boom has come as a result of the entrance by novices to the yachting world: “The first time buyers, who we are seeing a lot of right now, are not buying superyachts, but I foresee them making the jump to larger vessels down the line.” The rationale is that once people have a taste for yachting they will go down the proverbial rabbit hole, in search of all that yachting has to offer: “I think we’re at a tipping point where you will see the shift of people going into new build, customisation and, eventually, the aficionado customer who goes through the whole range”, explained Joshua Lee. This is not dissimilar to what has been seen in the Russian market, where many owners begin their life on yachts with smaller vessels able to cruise on inland waterways and the Black Sea. It was recently noted in our <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/52940" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Broker Insight: 5 questions with Julia Skoptsova (2021-05-17 10:30:00 +0200)">interview with yacht broker Julia Skoptsova</a>, that many of her clients gradually increase the size of vessel, eventually purchasing yachts in the 40-70-metre range once they have got a taste for yachting. This might suggest that in the coming years, we will see an even further increase in yacht sales to the Asian market, and a continuation of this gradual increase in interest from the region.

SYT dives deeper into the current Asian yacht market

A buzz topic in the superyacht industry as of late is that the Asian yacht market is booming. SYT unpacks the current sentiment.

Unpicking the Asian yacht market 'boom'

After her launch in mid-August, Feadship celebrated the christening of its new 69-metre project Samaya this past weekend. The yacht is built for an experienced seaman with a knack for ocean diving and a love for the creatures that call the sea home.

The Samaya story started right after the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show when Joshua Lee from Lee Marine brought along his European client to view the shipyard. Three days and several design meetings later, an agreement was signed to build the owner’s dream boat in the Netherlands.

Designed by De Voogt, Samaya’s on board features and even stylistic cues all have influences by the owner’s hand. The yacht will be used to cover great distances around the world and visit many remote locations where some of the rarest sea creatures live. To facilitate such demands, Samaya is fitted with the technical capabilities to sustain such an itinerary.

But not only to the owner and his family’s benefit. Samaya’s purpose runs much deeper, as Feadship explains: “The client made a sacred promise during the keel laying ceremony to cruise wherever it is possible to experience encounters with special and rare species – and to use Samaya as a platform that enables scientists and the media to produce material which will educate people and help protect the endangered species and damaged locations in our beautiful oceans.”

RWD was selected to design Samaya’s interior who worked closely with the owner and his family on every guest area of the vessel. “The guest suites have been designed for and by the owner’s children, with highly distinctive colour schemes and furnishing of their own,” states Feadship

In addition to her impressive technical capabilities, Samaya also offers guests outdoor escapes to retreat to after a long day on the water. The large sundeck is one such example and guests can take in the untouched beauty of each destination from this unique vantage point with its scattered relaxation areas.

Revealed: Feadship’s Samaya christened

On schedule for a 2018 summer delivery, Cantieri Delle Marche is currently deep into the build of a custom Darwin 102 motor yacht project destined to cruise in Asian waters with her owner. Lee Marine’s Marcus Overman sold the project to the client.

Works currently underway include the final outfitting of engine room piping as well as framing and partitions on the main and upper decks. From an exterior perspective, fairing is nearly completed and the shipyard is already preparing for the paint application stages.

Once ready to cruise in the summer of 2018, the yacht is expected to spend her maiden season cruising the Mediterranean where after her owner will have the yacht moved to Asian waters for extended voyages.

In build: fourth CdM Darwin 102 project underway

The first Riva 100 Corsaro has arrived in Asian waters awaiting her official handover to her Asian client which will take place in Hong Kong in April under the supervision of Lee Marine. The yacht was launched in November last year and has since completed her sea trails and a stunning photo shoot in the Gulf of La Spezia.

Her sleek exterior is indicative of her innate performance capabilities and a range of stylistic exterior touches gives her a true Italian flair.

New Riva 100 Corsaro delivered

Built by the Italian CRN shipyard in 2010, the 60 metre superyacht Mimtee has been sold and her name consequently changed to Ramble on Rose. Designed by Zuccon International Project, she features an interior from the drawing boards of Laura Sessa Romboli, she accommodates up to 12 guests on board as well as a crew of 14.

Ramble on Rose was sold by Burgess in cooperation with Lee Marine, and has now joined the Burgess charter fleet. Her price at the time of sale has not been released.

The 60m CRN superyacht Mimtee sold

With the lines’ first unit presented at the 2016 Cannes Yachting Festival, Lee Marine recently announced that it has sold a new build model in the Ferretti 850 line to an Asian client. This will be the first yacht of its kind to arrive in Asia when she gets delivered in 2017.

The new model is the result of a close collaboration between Studio Zuccon International Project who undertook the exterior design, and the Ferretti Group’s in-house design and engineering teams.

New Ferretti 850 headed to Asian market

Cantiere delle Marche has announced the signing of yet another contract for the build of a Darwin Class 102’ superyacht today. This will be the fifth hull in the Italian shipyard’s 31 metre explorer line, and is expected to be ready for delivery to her Malaysian owner in 2018. The client, an experienced owner with a passion for cruising off the beaten track, will utilise the yacht together with his extended family throughout the islands of the Indian Ocean.

Construction on the yacht will get underway immediately at CDM’s shipyard in Ancona, with a predicted construction time of 22 months.

The yacht was sold by Lee Marine Phuket in conjunction with CdM Sales and Marketing Director Vasco Buonpensiere. “The owner has a great deal of experience and wanted a genuine, world expedition yacht with a very high comfort level and unparalleled sea keeping,” according to Mr. Joshua Lee, Founder and Managing Director of Lee Marine.

Vasco Buonpensiere comments: "In addition to the satisfaction of having sold one of our explorer yachts in an exotic country like Malaysia, we are thrilled to have found a ship owner who embodies 100% the Darwin Class spirit: not only an experienced and excellent diver but also a passionate adventurer in search of wrecks and marine relics."

The fifth hull is set up in a similar way as hull number one, Acala, with great attention having been paid to making diving operations from the yacht as safe and efficient as possible. The yacht is based on the same seaworthy platform developed by Hydrotec with a 12 mm thick steel hull providing excellent comfort and sea keeping capabilities.

CDM confirms signing of fifth Darwin Class 102 project

Joshua Lee, Founder and Managing Director of Lee Marine in Phuket, Thailand has announced that they have sold a 69.5 metre superyacht project currently under construction at the Dutch shipyard’s facility in Aalsmeer. The company has been tasked with overseeing the three-year build project developed by De Voogt Naval Architects with interiors designed by Redman Whiteley Dixon.

“We have a first-class team in place and are already over one year into a seamless and pleasing build process for a very happy owner,” says Lee. “The yacht will be quite distinctive with many long range features that may surprise some corners of the market.”

69.5m Feadship superyacht project sold

With just five weeks to go until the Thailand Yacht Show kicks off, organisers are busy preparing for the very first edition of the event. Held in Phuket from 11th to 14th February, the show boasts a lineup of 40 yachts on display including the 32 metre Benetti Nanou, the 51 metre Phinisi, and the 50 metre Dunia Baru. Countdown to inaugural Thailand Yacht Show

The Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX) 2015 started on the 8th January, and organisers have reported that many leading industry brands have chosen the show to debut several of their latest models to the Asian market.One such brand is Middle Eastern shipyard Gulf Craft, who are launching their Oryx 42 into Thailand and their Gulf Craft Majesty 48 into Asia. Erwin Bamps, CEO of the shipyard, comments, “PIMEX is one of Asia’s premier boat shows, both in terms of how well it is produced and how well it succeeds in attracting top calibre attendees. For Gulf Craft, our participation in the event is pivotal to bringing our line-up of luxury vessels to the forefront of Thailand’s increasingly affluent boating community, and to being an active participant in Asia’s thriving maritime industry.”Making its debut at the show this year is the Ferretti Custom Line brand of yachts. Part of the Ferretti Group, the Ferretti Custom Line Next 112 is the largest boat in the Show and is part of a four boat display by Thailand dealer Lee Marine, who have exhibited at PIMEX every year since the show's beginning 12 years ago. Furthermore, Princess Yachts, represented by Boat Lagoon Yachting, have an impressive line-up of seven motor yachts ranging from 42 to 88-foot in the Show. The group have chosen PIMEX as the Asian premiere for the all new Princess 68 as well as the Princess 88.Other business that have chosen to showcase at PIMEX for the first time, and to launch their products into Thailand's luxury marketplace include Quadski – high speed amphibious vehicles that operate on land and water – Markagain – a platform from Italy for the management and resale of pre-owned luxury assets – and Archi Studio – specialists in architectural design and building materials using advanced technology.Andy Dowen, the Show Director, comments, “We are seeing more boats, luxury brands and products choosing PIMEX as the platform to launch into Thailand and Asia. In the summer of 2014, Italy’s Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) shipyard, launched Yolo, the first yacht in the Nauta Air 86’ explorer series. Yolo is purpose built for long voyage luxury sailing with a range of 3900 nautical miles. She features a beautiful interior by Laura Pomponi of Luxury Projects, coupled with unique measures to give complete privacy for the owner and guests, she affords maximum luxury relaxation and entertainment. I met with Matt, her owner, on board a couple of weeks ago.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151816/image/large-aba6aa90e8a6ad8c2707edf4868ad718.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151816">Can I ask about your background in yachting, what was your first yachting or boating experience?My first yacht was a Sunseeker, 70 feet, I actually still have her, and it was in Thailand. Basically the nature there is amazing and I wanted to explorer it. There are 250 island of Thailand and when I lived down in Phuket, I just wanted to explore and get away from the main land because of the cultural difference, untie myself as I call it. Get out there and explorer it, see nature, that was the driving force behind it.Did you grow up with boats as well or was it just something you saw and you just thought that is something I would like to do.I have always wanted a yacht but never been in the position. I mean I am fairly young so ten years ago it wasn’t an option, I was still out there financing myself.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151817/image/large-9cb1dd0d715e163aa0a79bd08f9a7866.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/149090">How did you learn about CdM?After my experience in Thailand with a boat, I knew exactly what I wanted in a boat, I did not wanted to get 20 or 30 knots, I wanted something where I could sit all day at 10 or 12 knots and cruise along. At the same time I knew I needed a trawler type vessel, but I wanted something younger, more entertaining. I am still in the entertaining cycle of my life, I actually travelled the world, went to boat shows, looked for the right boats. And I didn’t find it. They were all of the older style and none of them had any entertaining space. And then I went all the way back to Phuket, the Thai agent for CdM, Lee Marine, said Matt come and take a look at this. And I came and took a look at it and I said: wow , that’s what I have been searching the last year and a half all around the world for. Ok lets go to Italy. And I went to Italy. I have grown up with Italians, so we straight away hit it off with the guys at the yard. The yacht could be fully customized, I could spec it how I wanted it, pink here, blue there, orange there, whatever.So you were very involved in the whole construction process?Stupidly involved, I mean I am young this is my first custom build so I wanted to learn every aspect, I wanted to learn the maritime law, I wanted to learn the specification and I also wanted to learn how to do business like this.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151818/image/large-f10a000750676c9e267d33c506df9033.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/149091">You have 3 cabins and a master, and you changed one cabin to the gym, did you also consider that the resale value could be less because of the very personalized layout?I was definitely concerned but at the same time for me it doesn’t matter. Because I haven’t got a family, I have friends that come on board, that is why for example I got the big lounge area upstairs. It wasn’t so much of concern but I have made it. So when she is up for sale, it will just be a simple conversion. All the plumbing is the standard layout. When she is up for sale that is something I throw in with the deal. Are you bringing it to Thailand or first explore a bit?I had the last month here, I have another 3 weeks here. I am gone go to Spain, Barcelona, the Balearics and then she will go back to Italy for the low season, just to get some more stuff done. The little touch ups that you always have with a new delivery. Next season we’ll stay in Croatia and Greece and the season after we are going to the Caribbean.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151820/image/large-78f1ba9ba9ad6b1e2ce52afdb7e4b1d0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151820">So you have got it all planned?Yes, not too firmly, I don’t like to plan too much.As a yacht owner, what do you think about the superyacht industry in general? Are there things that can improve in general in the industry from an outsider’s perspective?I am still learning, I been actually away with the boat for 5 weeks, it is an absolutely learning curve. Some things seem very natural to me and other things Are such an involved process, and there seems to be a lot of little businesses and little people and little agencies that kind of come in to simplify the process but at the same time… lets say it is a beautiful learning curve. It is a simple and expensive learning curve though. I know that now for next season, it won’t surprise me.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151821/image/large-0e5a7e0f1a294a523ab8551338ee61c6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151821">Are you planning to offer the boat for charter as well?I will not this season but we are looking at changing registration to commercial. I think I am going to put up the boat up for sale, because I am already looking at new plans for another Nauta Air Explorer Vessel. Chartering will help to level out the cost, make it easier.What would you recommend to other owners before buying a boat?Luckily I had time on my side so I decided to dive in the deep with my wish list and work it all out. So the advice is talk to everybody, go and test boats, go to every boat show, do your research and compile magazines.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/151822/image/large-afbdede03c1f1edcc72bd22269f1806b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/151822">You said you are putting YOLO up for sale. Would you like to build another boat?Yes, as I said we are already looking at new plans and layout with CdM and Nauta Design. During the building you say never again but as soon as it is finished you sail away and here you go, ahh lets do it again. What is next, what would I change and there are always little things. I think it is an addiction. I don’t know if it is a good or a bad addiction. Then again, because you have the two culture differences, it was a tough time. But overall it is amazing. It’s being part of a family, a really expensive one. Interview with the owner of Yolo

The world’s first Nauta Air 86’ explorer yacht Yolo from Italy’s Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) shipyard, was launched at a champagne ceremony in Ancona on 14 June, 2014. Coupled with unique measures to give complete privacy for the owner and guests, she affords maximum luxury relaxation and entertainment.Interestingly, the Nauta Air 86’ started life as a Nauta Air 80’. Nine revisions later it was minutely customised under the owner’s personal attention in collaboration with Mario Pedol, Massimo Gino and the award winning Nauta Design team, and extended to 86 feet to accommodate the owner’s personal preferences.Yolo was sold two years ago by Southeast Asia agents for CdM, Lee Marine, to its dynamic young owner, whose personal input into all aspects of the luxurious yacht since 2012, make it, in the words of one person involved with the sale,“the personification of intelligent customization” to the super yacht class. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/149091/image/large-6867cb57f24e2f3f38e6563179ff1d54.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/149091">Other adaptations from a standard design include a three, instead of four, cabin configuration, a massive 66 sqm flybridge complete with Jacuzzi, a generous master bedroom with private companionway from the saloon, galley aft on the main deck, a gymnasium and sauna, extended crew quarters, and spacious tender and jet ski storage. Lee Marine have announced the launch in Ancona, Italy of its largest super yacht to date, a 34 metre long, luxurious Ferretti Group Custom Line 112’ NEXT destined for ownership and cruising out of Phuket.Capable of 28 knots powered by twin 2800 hp MTU engines, the yacht, named Happy Days was moved from CRN (brand of Ferretti Group) Ancona shipyard on Tuesday, 9th July, and underwent a traditional champagne bottle launch witnessed by Lee Marine Managing Director, Joshua Lee, Ferretti executives, captain and crew.The boat, which has five large en-suite guest cabins and a distinctive raised pilothouse to separate owner and guests from the operational side, will undergo sea trials in Croatia, Montenegro and along the Italian coast before being transported by ship to Asia and her eventual base on Phuket.Commented Mr Lee: “In a short period the shipyard have worked wonders. Superyacht Happy Days launched by Ferretti Group
