The gulet yacht began construction in 2022 in Croatia and has been designed for the avid sailor Spiro Rakuljic, who we interviewed for the SuperYacht Times newspaper. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12856" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Anetta40.2m (131'11&quot;)Nuic Nautika D.O.O2023">Anetta</a> features naval architecture by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6904" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nuic Nautika D.O.O (Company)">Nuic Nautika</a> and boasts a luxurious contemporary interior design. It was around this time that our family brough one of the largest wooden ships on the Adriatic, named it <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12856" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Anetta40.2m (131'11&quot;)Nuic Nautika D.O.O2023">Anetta</a>, after the grandmother, and began to reconstruct it.By 2020, our family had the largest fleet of mini cruise ships on the Adriatic. As a result of the coronavirus, we decided to focus on the market of smaller luxury yachts with six cabins for up to 12 guests, as there was a real lack of them on the Adriatic. It also forces us to extend the build time of the new <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12856" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Anetta40.2m (131'11&quot;)Nuic Nautika D.O.O2023">Anetta</a> to the 2023 season. Charterers can easily anchor in different bays and dock that are within just a few nautical miles of each other. There are many bays and harbours on both the south and north side of the island to explore. It’s a place of great diversity.Croatia has also undergone significant developments over the past decade. Early this morning the 116-metre explorer Ulysses was spotted on sea trials in Germany. Exclusive: the 116m explorer yacht Ulysses on sea trials

The highly anticipated mega explorer yacht U116 that is being completed in Bremerhaven, Germany is getting ready to head out to sea on her first sea trials since arriving here on her maiden voyage from the Kleven shipyard in Norway. The yacht has been spending the past few days laid up in a dry dock at the Bredo shipyard for inspections ahead of U116’s voyage back out to sea.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/28590/image/large-eccb760fe2e1eeaf65d7ec624d401ef9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/28590">The owner’s previous vessel, named Ulysses, which has since changed hands and is now cruising the Pacific under the name Andromeda, was well known for her functional, naval-like exterior but also the impressive 21-metre catamaran tender that was stowed on the foredeck forward of the bridge. U116 is no different, but this time her owner opted for a more sophisticated and elegant boat that will accompany the yacht on its travels.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/28592/image/large-8a3576e7a01869aaf2632bc0e9acefbf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/28592">A customised 21-metre Princess 68 motor yacht will fit securely inside U116’s well deck that can be lowered into the water via two massive deck cranes as seen here below with Andromeda's

The British design studio RWD are behind the design of U116’s interior. Build update: 116m explorer yacht U116 receives mega tender as project nears completion in Germany

It has been nearly 12 months since the 116-metre explorer yacht project known as U116 has arrived in Bremerhaven, Germany after leaving the Kleven Shipyard in Norway where she was constructed. Preview: First glimpse of completed U116 explorer yacht

Following the completion of her sea trials on the Norwegian Sea last week, the explorer yacht currently known as U116 departed the Kleven Shipyard in Ulsteinvik over the weekend and arrived in Bremerhaven in Germany a few moments ago.

As with her owner’s previous superyacht project, the 107-metre Ulysses, U116 is in Bremerhaven where she will undergo final outfitting. Dörries Maritime will once again oversee operations as U116 is to be completed with superyacht-standard interiors and fitted with luxurious outdoor spaces. "The fact that the owners' team choose to return to our facilities with the U116 project shows that they were satisfied with our previous work," commented Henning Dörries from Dörries Maritime. "We are very happy and proud to be involved in this project, as we have been with Ulysses in the past."

U116 is being built for New Zealand businessman, Graeme Hart. As sistership to Ulysses, U116 will essentially be a larger, more refined version of her 107-metre sibling once she is completed mid-2017.

U116 is based on a type MT 5006 MKII ESV platform designed by local ship design company Marin Teknikk, in partnership with Kyle Dick of Oscar Mike Naval Architects based in New Zealand, to carry 66 people on board. As with Ulysses, technical aspects of this project is overseen by Manta Maritime.

Exclusive: Kleven explorer U116 arrives in Bremerhaven for outfitting

In a time where explorer yachts are marketed as an achievable result by so many, one serial yacht owner set out to create the ultimate seven oceans mile-muncher that would be able to provide him and his family a safe, comfortable and luxurious experience at sea like no other before her. To achieve this, the luxury yachting brands which he once favoured were overlooked, and instead, headed far north into Viking territory for his next project. It is in Norway where the Ulysses journey begins…<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161675/image/large-46c27d88b111851fdf977583eb3c808d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161536">No stranger to the shifting tides and swells of the rough South Pacific, and an experienced yacht owner at that, the man behind the series of yachts named Ulysses has continued the exponential growth rate in the size of the yachts which he creates, this time with a new 107-metre monster. Ulysses is the next level in what is available to owners seeking to lead a path off the beaten track, with the best from the worlds of luxury yachting and proven commercial vessels combined into one ocean-crossing and self-sufficient package.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161676/image/large-2cedc94fa87c8724a726b00d1f085d7b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161537">Kleven in Norway, builders of robust commercial and offshore vessels, were tasked with the challenge of putting a superyacht spin on one of their proven deep-water platforms designed and conceptualised by Marin Teknikk, that would ultimately be built as an ultra luxurious superyacht. The advantages of this approach would prove to be a trusted and solid ship able to be built in under two years with room for complete customisation and personal input from the owner. To make this all happen, an international team was assembled which included, Oscar Mike as exterior stylists, naval architects and concept designers Marin Teknikk, interior designers H2 Yacht Design and technical managers Manta Maritime. Oscar Mike and Marin Teknikk worked together on creating the yacht's general arrangements.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161677/image/large-e9c581121313da300f597515e65d72a8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161538">The brief was simple: create a private luxury yacht with advanced offshore capabilities with the intent of being passed on to an equally adventurous owner. “The brief called for an expedition-style vessel with real presence,” explains Kyle Dick of Oscar Mike Naval Architects. “Four key design drivers stood out above the technical brief that influenced the design. These were: gross tonnage, big tenders, a full compliant heliport and aft-facing exterior guest spaces." The yacht was to feature a highly custom and luxurious superyacht interior that is dressed in a commercial exterior paint finish.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161678/image/large-c90dcd5576e2844c3f62cb71fb92e193.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161539">Deck spaces are kept simple with a focus on large continuous guest spaces that flow into the next. The use of steel in the construction of both the hull and superstructure nearly eliminated the need for structural beams in certain areas, further adding to the uninterrupted interior and exterior guest spaces, making these decks seem even larger that what they already are.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161679/image/large-4ef389579afac2ca51dcc95285998fe4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161540">A prime example of this has to be the 400-square-metre pool deck. Here guests can select between a number of outdoor chill-out spots in between pool sessions. A family-sized Jacuzzi and 12-metre swimming pool give the option of not having to leave the comfort of this deck to enjoy watersports fun. This enormous outdoor space seamlessly leads into the area known as the pool house – a near full-beam social zone with wrap-around glass sliding doors, ideal for lazy summer days.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161680/image/large-83b940e7483315265bdfc528c77020de.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161541"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161681/image/large-d3e9c15d1bc258aa491c44438a66d953.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161542"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161682/image/large-8285cb514d20f1d13c8382d0f82ccff6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161543">Another stand-out exterior feature can be found right at the top of Ulysses’ superstructure. Here an isolated viewing deck can be found placed just above the bridge. At 21 metres above sea level, time spent here is sure to be a magical experience while cruising underneath a sunset sky.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161683/image/large-3f807ee644b3f14ebc66294b52304a5c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161544">Ulysses is equipped with a certified helicopter landing pad capable of accommodating a Bell 429 or EC145 helicopter. The helideck comes complete with a hangar in which the helicopter will be stored sideways, with its rotors folded in a stow position. Ulysses comes complete with refuelling capabilities as well, with a dedicated supply of high-grade fuel stowed on the foredeck.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161684/image/large-ffc01da1643a7b9288702a688ed0a828.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161545">British studio H2 Yacht Design was selected for the design of Ulysses’ interior. A beam spanning 18 metres and a hefty gross tonnage of just under 6,000 GT meant guest areas would always be expansive, a challenge in itself. “The scale is pretty immense and we were working with some really big spaces,” explains Jonny Horsfield, founder of H2 Yacht Design. “The owners also had very particular requirements that we had to be sensitive to.” This was not the only challenge, however, as the size and commercial appeal of the vessel saw the team having to adapt to and implement the newly written Passenger Yacht Code into the general arrangement of the layout.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161685/image/large-2036d89cd65f2832e1e0f2458d2e5014.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161546">“Having had to follow the PYC material rules meant we were selecting from a limited palette of materials,” continues Horsfield. “Working with a cruise ship-specialized interior contractor had us working hard at establishing a panelling system and décor that would be attractive but also relatively simple to construct and install.” This was not necessarily a bad thing tells Horsefield, as the ultimate result has added greatly to the clarity and consistency guests will experience throughout the interior.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161686/image/large-c254fcb36785cf5cd6e1cd216b3ea5bf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161547"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161687/image/large-db58a7c73e12790a016f79e99ee53c05.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161548">Guest accommodation is spread across three decks and 15 suites in total. The owner receives his own dedicated deck that resembles a contemporary apartment more than a suite. The master bedroom leads out onto a private aft deck with an office and lounge space up forward. Another concealed entrance opens up onto an intimate setting on a private forward facing balcony deck. When asked about his favourite areas on board, Horsfield identified this as one the best: “The master bedroom is one of my favourites due to its unique location and views. Being based on a commercial platform, crew members enjoy the benefits of having extra spacious cabins and communal areas for relaxation. These home-comforts will no doubt come in handy should Ulysses embark on the world voyages which she was intended for.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161694/image/large-fea2cc46bb09f70e66e885ea7691520e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161555"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161695/image/large-d3e2de92a71891840edad00edad29cfb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161556">Although built strictly as a private vessel, when the sheer amount of open entertainment deck spaces, the number of different interior hideaway spots and the selection of possible water, land and air activities that are on offer to guests are considered, it is not too difficult to imagine the charter possibilities Ulysses is capable of offering. The active family ensured that there is no shortage of toys to suit any number of possible terrains. Landing craft, ATV’s dune buggies, sailing boats, motorbikes and a fully equipped dive centre – you name it and Ulysses will provide.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161696/image/large-325c2c3074e9919680533964bd9ddc5b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161557"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161697/image/large-bb88543b8f881fe7e709f04d5ece5f02.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161558">The flagship of Ulysses’ tender fleet is no doubt the 21-metre catamaran tender stowed on her foredeck. Named U-21, this craft is custom built by Composite Projects in New Zealand to a design by Teknikraft to meet the owner’s deep-sea fishing and comfortable cruising requirements. The tender is propelled by 4 water jets driven by quad engines. Inside is accommodation for seven guests in five cabins. Two dedicated Palfinger 30-tonn cranes serve the tender and launch her into the water over the port side of the foredeck. “Having these cranes and the ability to have such a large tender onboard sets Ulysses apart from any other explorer yacht,” says Ken Appleby of Manta Maritime.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161698/image/large-2833ef7907ed03067647c411921262a9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161559">Fitted with no less than six Caterpillar engines, Ulysses is propelled by twin azimuth stern drives to a top speed of 16.8 knots. More impressive is her range: fully loaded she can cover 8,500 nautical miles without having to stop, leaving the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans in her wake.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161699/image/large-76ac3950cafda2ab38e89c4c3cfccb9c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161560">Her commands come from bridge deck, six levels up. Here, Manta Maritime oversaw the installation of the Rolls-Royce integrated bridge. This one-of-a-kind technical marvel lives up to every kid's dream of having total control over one of the coolest ships on the seas at his/her fingertips. Appleby, however, explains that this is not merely a technical area for crew. “The design and layout of the bridge is clean, spacious and uncluttered. With full height windows on three sides and ample free space, the wheelhouse not only serves as the navigating position but is a fantastic guest space as well.” A viewing window from the bridge allows crew to keep direct visual contact with helicopter operations.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161700/image/large-182ed1bd6105eea00946fbf212bd4d71.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161561"><img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/161701/image/large-047917c551e40ee87174e421db751071.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/161562">Ulysses can be described as a game changer in the field of super explorer yachts, setting a new standard in what is possible when the commercial and luxury yachting worlds meet. Ulysses: the hunt for a Viking explorer

Currently under construction at Kleven, based in Ulsteinvik, Norway, is the 116 metre explorer yacht known as hull 370. The assembly of the pre-fabricated pieces of the vessel commenced in January this year, taking the shipyard a mere six months to reach this advanced stage of production.

Build update: 116m Kleven explorer yacht takes shape

The past weekend’s Grand Prix racing action in Monaco saw a gathering of some of the largest and most iconic superyachts in the world anchored off Monte Carlo. Cruising the Mediterranean in her first season is the recently delivered 107 metre explorer yacht Ulysses built by Norwegian shipyard Kleven in 2015 and outfitted in Germany earlier this year. SYT’s photographer Tom van Oossanen went the extra mile to bring you these photos showing the yacht’s deck spaces in detail for the first time.

For this reason, we take you through the build process of this advanced world cruiser and share with you what we know so far about the project that is based on an MT 5006 MKII ESV offshore platform.

12 March 2016: Kleven carries out a successful technical launch of the explorer yacht witnessed by project managers, shipyard staff and family members.

Hull 370 as she is named by the shipyard, is designed by local ship design company Marin Teknikk in partnership with Kyle Dick of Oscar Mike Naval Architects based in New Zealand. As with Ulysses, technical aspects of this project is overseen by Manta Maritime. Designed to carry a total of 66 people on board, hull 370 is expected to be ready for departure in July this year.

Build timeline: Kleven’s 116m explorer yacht so far

Superyacht Ulysses in Barcelona, Spain

Having recently completed her first guest trip around the island of Mallorca, the 107 metre Ulysses remains in Spanish waters where she is currently moored at the OneOcean Port Vell near the heart of the vibrant city of Barcelona. Delivered to her owner towards the end of last month, Ulysses is a 107 metre explorer yacht based on a proven and tested offshore platform designed by Marin Teknikk with naval architecture by Oscar Mike Naval Architects, and built by Norwegian shipyard Kleven. Her interior is the work of British design studio H2 Yacht Design, which was brought to life by the outfitting team of Dörries Maritime in Germany. Manta Maritime oversaw the project’s technical aspects during the build of the vessel, and will remain apart of the yacht’s management. Ulysses is run by a company of 30 crew members.

Superyacht Ulysses moored in central Barcelona

Having departed Germany just over two weeks ago, after having been outfitted by Dörries Maritime in Bremerhaven, the Kleven built explorer yacht Ulysses has finally been delivered to her owner where she is now cruising in the Western Mediterranean. SuperYacht Times travelled to Palma de Mallorca last week to see her in person, where she arrived with her 30 crew members on board just over 2 weeks ago.

The 107 metre Ulysses is built on a proven and tested offshore platform developed by the masters at Marin Teknikk in Norway. The vessel’s commercial grade finish leaves little doubt as to her capabilities and intended world cruising usage. A functional deck layout leaves plenty of room to spare for a few superyacht friendly amenities and on-deck features. Aft facing decks are vast and a comfortable space to take in the natural surroundings from.

Inside, H2 Yacht Design has created a luxurious and sophisticated interior with the practicalities and functionality in mind to match the vessel’s intended use. Dörries Maritime was tasked with the outfitting of the vessel’s interior. Henning Dörries comments on a successful project completed: “The cooperation with the owner’s team was great and without any big problems. We have worked before with Jonny Horsefield and his team at H2 Yacht Design in the past, and the co-operation has always been excellent.”

The yacht arrived in Bremerhaven in August 2015 and Dörries Maritime had to get to work right away to be able to complete all the works on schedule. But, as Henning explains, the good team work of the project members, along with their experience in large yacht refit and outfitting, saw everything come together smoothly. “The short timeline did not make it easier, but the extraordinary work of the owner’s team, who also managed the works at Kleven in Norway, made it possible.”

Manta Maritime worked with owner’s team throughout the build of the yacht since the start of the project in Norway, whilst providing technical consultancy expertise. According to Ken Appleby of Manta Maritime, planning ahead was a critical part to the success of the project: “With a large yacht like Ulysses there are many more considerations that need to be made as opposed to smaller projects, and planning is key to their success.”

This is not the first project on such a scale for the company, with Appleby confirming their field of experience: “As well as providing safety management using our safe and simple system for many other yachts, Manta has been providing technical superintendence for another 134 metre passenger yacht for a number of years, which gives us a clear advantage in dealing with these large yachts.”

As a true explorer yacht, the Ice Classed Ulysses boasts and impressive fleet of tenders and landing craft, each designed with a purpose, but none more impressive than the 21 metre tender stowed on her foredeck. U-21 as she is named was custom built by Composite Projects Ltd in New Zealand to a design byTecknicraft to meet the owner's deep-sea fishing and comfortable cruising requirements. The tender is propelled by 4 water jets driven by quad engines. Inside is accommodation for 7 guests in 5 cabins. Two enormous cranes have been fitted to safely launch and retrieve the tender. Another unique feature is Ulysses’ dedicated helicopter hangar on bridge deck aft, suitable to accommodate a Bell 429 or EC145 with its own refuelling facilities included.

A second, larger version of Ulysses is currently under construction at Kleven shipyard in Norway with Manta Maritime again overseeing the technical aspects of the projects. As for the eventual outfitting of the new project, Dörries Maritime is looking forward to once again being involved in such an exciting process: “Of course we would like to work again with the owner and his team should they require our services for the 116 meter project, and we hope they feel the same way.”

As for Ulysses’ cruising plans over the coming summer season, yacht spotters will be glad to know that she is expected to cruise throughout the Mediterranean during the next few months.
