The American yachting brand Hargrave has announced that the 56-metre superyacht currently under construction at HSY in Antalya, Turkey is its new flagship 184 model being built for a four-time repeat client from the States. Hargrave, known for working with the Taiwanese shipyard Kha Shing for the construction of the majority of its fleet, has once again outsourced the building process of one of their projects to a specialised shipyard. The 41.5-metre Hargrave motor yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1469" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="DREAmer41.5m (136'2&quot;)">DREAmer</a> was also built in Turkey at the Ned Ship Group in 2010. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/52971/image/large-f0d06bbe860f00fd20d612094b0022f8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/52971">The Hargrave 184&nbsp;was <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/46836" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="HSY Yachts to build new 56m superyacht for American client (2017-01-30 10:00:00 +0100)">first announced</a> in early 2017 with construction said to get underway in February last year. Hargrave and HSY are working with Unique Yacht Design on the exterior design of the project while HSY Yachts are behind the interior design and naval architecture of the vessel.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/3585/image/large-2fd7cac42d4493ed1495721762ac4303.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/3585">According to the designer, the Hargrave 184 will measure 10.4 metres across and is being constructed with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. A conventional diesel propulsion system will deliver a cruising speed of 12 knots and a top speed of 16 knots while initial calculations indicate a potential range of over 5,000 nm for the yacht.&nbsp;“We sure didn’t see any of this coming when we started. I guess I’m excited because I believe that when all the totally new designs begin to arrive here in the US over the next 24 month the future for Hargrave will be headed in a new direction for the next decade,” comments Hargrave President, Mike DiCondina, on the future of the Hargrave line of superyachts.

56m HSY in-build project revealed as Hargrave 184 superyacht

Ned Ship Group and Swedish designer Dennis Ingemansson have teamed up to present a new 65-metre superyacht concept with eco-friendly functionality at its core. Named the Green Expedition, the explorer vessel has a GT of 1,400 and is designed with an Ice class hull and an impressive range in excess of 6,000 nm at 12 knots.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/store/photo/33832/image/large-399e322fe567c90deaa3c82a2e69d6eb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/33832">The Green Expedition features a solar cell area, covering 150 sqm in total, with the helicopter platform also able to be converted to add an additional 60 sqm of solar cells. The skysail allows for energy efficient movement together with the retractable wind turbines.On board, she accommodates up to eight guests across four guest cabins, as well as an additional four guests including the owner in a double owner’s suite. Whether you’re going through rougher areas like Antarctica or Alaska, or sailing through enormous waves in the Barents Sea, she is built to endure. All equipment is stored indoors, and there is no risk of losing the helicopter or tenders during stormy weather.” Further demonstrating her exploration capabilities is a dedicated dive centre with submarines and a decompression chamber.&nbsp;

New 65m Green Expedition yacht concept 

Swedish studio Dennis Ingemansson Design joined forces with the Turkish shipyard Ned Ship Group recently, collaborating on the 42-metre catamaran project Solar Dream.

With an ecological ethos and prioritisation of efficiency, the design proposed boasts a 360 square metre solar cell area and hybrid propulsion solution. With a hull constructed from carbon fibre composites and weighing in at approximately 1000 gross tons, the yacht is expected to reach a top speed of 22 knots with minimal output.

With 580 square meters of interior space, Ingemansson says: “Solar Dream offers a luxurious experience, with three guest rooms that can accommodate ten people and double owner’s suites. Once this smart beauty get into the water, it can become a green icon. ” The superyacht also incorporates accommodation for five crew members.

Driving eco-friendly superyacht design with the 42m Solar Dream

The name AES Yachts probably doesn’t ring an immediate bell. With a distinct lack of information pertaining to the company available, well, anywhere, this comes as no surprise, though with an exciting 66 metre new build project scheduled for completion next summer, that could be about to change.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162678/image/large-e5ac2424d0f05928d6f2453c0cb2cd94.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162678" class="legacy">Established just four years ago, the Turkish yacht building and interior outfitting company based in Tuzla is headed by Hasan Sancak, a man boasting a career in the maritime industry that spans the last two decades. Entering the industry on the commercial shipping side, his first professional experience with the luxurious side of maritime was in 2007. Two years later Sancak was ready for a new challenge which materialised in the form of Cizgi Yat.&nbsp;Though Cizgi Yat lead a very short lifetime (opening its doors in 2009, going into liquidation in 2011), the company managed to produce E&amp;E in 2011 to industry-wide acclaim. Measuring 42 metres and featuring exterior design from Vripack, naval architecture from Vripack in collaboration with Endaze, and an interior from Art Line, the hard work poured into her from Sancak and the Cizgi Yat team paid off and was awarded at the following years World Superyacht Awards.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162679/image/large-ce7735fe32ad3edd9e34c94d619dfd96.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162679" class="legacy">The success the yard experienced with E&amp;E, however, wasn’t enough, and following the closing of Cizgi Yat’s doors in 2011 up sprung AES Yachts from the ashes just a few months later in 2012. A turbulent journey, indeed, but perhaps necessary to gather the experience needed to elevate AES to levels its predecessor wasn’t capable of. Either way, Sancak seems to have got it right with his latest venture and welcomed their very first project into their facility towards the end of their inaugural year; the 35 metre Phoenix built by fellow Turkish shipyard, Nedship, in 2003. The list of works undertaken included a major interior equipment overhaul, the installation of two powerful gyroscopic stabilisers, the installation of three custom awning systems which were built in house, and full exterior paint works - to name but some.&nbsp;After an intensive six month period the all new Phoenix left the yard to happy owners and a substantially larger project swiftly followed in her wake. The 51 metre Elena - also built by a neighbouring Turkish shipyard - arrived at the yard towards the end of 2013 for a period of 10 months. Upon completion another, again larger, new build project landed on the yard’s doorstep, the interiors on board the 60 metre Katina at Brodosplit in Croatia, though with difficulties in work permits and an extension of the job by 9 months, it wasn’t as straightforward as predicted. Sacank says, “Our workers could stay in Croatia for just three months at a time. We signed the contract for six months, which would have meant we changed our workers twice… we stayed 15 months - can you imagine how many times we had to change the workers? It was a challenge.”<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162680/image/large-984ced47accd49a29122d4e2e4de6a93.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162680" class="legacy">Three substantial refits certainly kept the new yard busy in their preliminary three years of business, but Sancak tells us that it was never the intention to be a refit yard with a penchant for quality interior design. Explaining this, Sancak states, “We work in every aspect of construction. We help others with interiors because we actually know what lies behind the wall and ceiling!” AES was destined to be an all encompassing yard that not only polished up superyachts to the standard they deserve, but also built brand new boats. And that’s exactly what the AES team are busy doing now, with their very first new build vessel currently under construction in their brand new 78 metre shed. “It was our intention to have new build projects,” Sancak continues, “At AES, we need to showcase our products. If our designs always stay renderings then nobody cares about it.”&nbsp;Named Project Days, the 66 metre superyacht is a custom project undertaken by AES in collaboration with CCN Yachting, designed by Hot Lab Yacht &amp; Design with naval architecture by Endaze Marine Engineering, exterior lines by Michele Dragoni and interiors in collaboration with Enrico Lumini. To adhere to the experienced client’s requirements for generous living spaces, she spans across five decks with a beam of 12 metres resulting in an enormous total gross tonnage of 1,800 GT.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162681/image/large-1eda9f63c1fbfaa86220cab4de4d7224.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162681" class="legacy">The new vessel came about after undertaking maintenance work on board the owner’s previous Italian-built boat. Impressed with the quality of AES’ work, his original idea was to - with the assistance of Sancak - find a vessel suitable for a major refit, bring it to Tuzla, and let AES work their magic. This didn’t quite go to plan, however, which actually worked out in the yard’s favour. Sancak explains more: “We found a 50 metre explorer in Greece and we visited with the owner but the price was raised and we backed out. So we decided on a new yacht with a new design. It started at 59 metres, then 62, 63, and? It ended at 66.”&nbsp;Of course every project is important to the shipyard, but Project Days is particularly integral to the growth and development of AES, with the owner already envisioning future vessels with the yard if all goes to plan. “This is a very important project in Turkey,” Sancak confirms. “If the owner is satisfied with the project, he will proceed with another 66 and another 45 metre project.”<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/162682/image/large-fe37aa8dcc849a891b682275094ee062.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/162682" class="legacy">With Project Days and another substantial refit project currently keeping the AES team busy, the 71 metre Victoria, Sancak tells us that right now, their order book is full. “We have Victoria which we are planning to finish in one year, Project Days we will finish in one and a half years, so we are full right now. We are in discussions with another Turkish client for a prospective 70 metre, but we cannot start for another 1.5 years. Our team is limited… there are a lot of interior designers all over Turkey, but our team is really good and we won’t compromise that.” For now at least, AES seems perfectly comfortable with where they are heading.&nbsp;In regards to the Turkish industry, are AES Yachts going to be the one to change the world’s perception of Turkish shipbuilding? Well, they definitely lack the same kind of professionalism and structure as their Northern European counterparts, but the proof is, as always, in the pudding. The first SWATH superyacht tender unveiled

At SYT we follow superyachts around the world and sometimes we come across a photo of a superyacht which is unfamiliar to us and such was the case with motor yacht Whisper. Early last year I found a very small photo of the yacht and was unable to identify what she was called or where she was build, I only knew the photo was taken in Turkey. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/138272/image/large-5f82280a8b11b87aae7021385f9b1af5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/138272">Until earlier this month when I came in touch with captain Garry Hartshorne, who completed a full refit programme on the yacht at the Cyrus Yachts shipyard in Antalya, Turkey. Superyacht <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3702">Whisper</a> started life around 2006 at the TSMM/Ned Ship shipyard in Turkey and in 2010 she was handed over to her owner, who decided to bring her to Cyrus Yachts for a complete makeover. Upon his arrival at the project Garry and the team of Cyrus Yachts made a complete survey of the yacht and the changes which were needed. The complete engine room was revised with the re-instalment of the generators, fuel system and piping. Also the aft garage of the yacht was completely re-arranged with the addition of a new technical room for the new AC units and power packs in order to create an easy access to all equipment for future service works. To improve the trimming of the yacht and to provide the owner and his guests with easy access to the water a new transom and swimming platform was added to the yacht. In addition to several other smaller changes to lay-out of the galley and crew mess was also completed changed. Extensive refit completed for superyacht Whisper

Grand Bay Yachts has unveiled their new project, 100´ Elegance. The 30 meter superyacht will be custom built with a carbon / glass /epoxy hull and superstructure, and features a beautiful classic profile. The bridge deck features a sky-lounge with a Jacuzzi, and an inviting aft deck with lots of space to entertain or relax. Grand Bay Yachts unveils superyacht project 100 Elegance

Nedship has unveiled the 650 Quadro, representing a superyacht with 650 sqm of usable space and 4 deck levels. This new design is the result of the intensive work of the in house designers from Nedship in collaboration with owners and crew. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/137146/image/large-acbf80e8be1ec99c1a1775dbbb94891a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/137146">The task was to get a yacht under 40 metres which has a fast hull combined with stable and very quite handling and which should have functions of a 45 metre yacht or even bigger. Also the focus was taken on the range of the yacht in the combination of a very economical use. Therefore for the structure Nedship will us carbon re-inforced glass-epoxy composite or for the absolute performance in full Carbon-Epoxy Composite to keep the weight as low as possible. Weight saving is the first and most important and efficient step for an economical use of a yacht. This allows by the chosen engine configuration an economical use as well as a very good performance. One of the major interior changes is the separation of the decks. There will be the complete crew and service located on the lower deck. That gives the crew more living space and also direct access to the technical areas as the garage, engine room, laundry and galley. The captain himself will be located near the pilot house. This system was mainly used only in much bigger yachts before. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/137147/image/large-3c5a1c7049cddc3d30442d9370cdb963.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/137147">For the guests the main deck offers full beam and more quietness than on the lower deck. Here different variations can be done: 3, 4 or 5 cabins or also the possibility to go with a master deck suite on the upper deck including a private sun deck area for the owner and a Gym / Cinema on the main deck forward. As the lower deck hosts a full beam garage with side openings, long tenders and a lot of toys can be stored there to keep the decks clean.
