The Gulf region is rapidly evolving into both a leading winter destination and a significant superyacht hub, with more owners choosing to keep their yachts in the region. Qatar has positioned itself as a key player in this growth. Recent alliances with Emirates Palace Marina in Abu Dhabi and Kıyı Istanbul in Turkey link Qatar to established owner routes, aligning service standards and creating smoother logistics for captains. “This turns Doha into part of a broader journey where each GCC country complements the other, strengthening the region’s collective appeal as a yachting destination,” Al Mulla explains.Visitor numbers reinforce the impact of this positioning. Dedicated VIP lounges, curated hospitality and immersive zones such as the Deep Dive Expo will return, alongside new launches that highlight innovation in design and sustainability.This effort aligns with Qatar’s wider push to cement its reputation as a must-visit destination. Simplified access procedures, including visa-free entry for more than 100 nationalities and Minakom, the Gulf’s first digital clearance platform for arrivals by water, provide predictability and efficiency valued by captains. He emphasised that preserving the port's rich history was the primary goal of the redesign. "Elements were incorporated to reflect this heritage," such as "the layout, resembling containers stacked upon each other, represents the port’s legacy." He also highlighted the colourful buildings, designed to resonate with the port’s vibrant historical tapestry.“The redevelopment was carefully designed to enhance the visitor experience,” pointed out Al Mulla. “During the design stages and before construction began, we ensured that all necessary facilities and amenities were in place. We focused on creating infrastructure to meet the main needs of visiting yachts, including water, electricity, and diesel.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/339959/image/large-de57160c903beaef297ae4616223dfcc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/339959">“We also focused on streamlining processes for visitors arriving from abroad,” he added. To simplify entry and mooring, the port has established a single point of contact that encompasses all necessary services, including immigration, customs, and marina operations. This approach centralises the entire procedure, enabling visitors to complete paperwork, obtain visas, and secure berth locations through one team that includes representatives from each relevant department. This system aims to efficiently manage permits and service arrangements, making the bureaucratic process more straightforward for arriving vessels."“From the outset, we aimed to set a high standard," recounted Al-Mulla. "Since opening the marina during the 2022 World Cup, we have attracted around 60 yachts ranging from 30 to 131-metres." "Plans for the marina's redevelopment were already in place before the event.
