Earlier this week, the 23.29-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2882" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pearl Yachts (Company)">Pearl</a> motor yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/13785" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tomi23.29m (76'5&quot;)Pearl Yachts2015">Tomi</a> caught fire and exploded while she was moored in the port of Calanova, Palma.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/308479/image/large-81ca99776b85f4c5706446f5dab0fb98.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/308479">The catalyst of the accident, which took place on 15 April, was reportedly a failure or overheating of the auxiliary power in the flybridge yacht’s bow chamber. The suspected source of the overheating was a malfunction within <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/13785" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tomi23.29m (76'5&quot;)Pearl Yachts2015">Tomi</a>’s bow thruster.&nbsp;Eyewitnesses reported hearing an alarming explosion, induced by an overabundance of smoke building up inside the vessel, as dark clouds of smoke could be seen streaming out of her interior.&nbsp;A team of Palma firefighters rushed to the scene shortly after in order to extinguish the fire.
