KPS Capital Partners has acquired a controlling equity interest in UK-based yacht builder Princess Yachts.

The US-based investment firm specialises in owning manufacturing businesses, with sources saying a deal could be struck as soon as this week.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/121697/image/large-eba30d54f4662dd7436a7fae0c715851.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/121697">Rumours circulated online last year that the Plymouth-based builder <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1912" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Princess Yachts (Company)">Princess Yachts</a> was for sale, as the firm’s private equity owner L Catterton hired bankers to find a buyer. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1912" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Princess Yachts (Company)">Princess Yachts</a> told local newspaper PlymouthLive that they were looking to start discussions with potential investors, in order to provide financial support in the build of a huge new factory at its Devonport operation.Princess Yachts also stated that as part of Plymouth City Council’s submission to the Government to create a tax-break they had; “developed a proposal to double the capacity of its South Yard facility to increase the product offering and further strengthen its market position.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/41309/image/large-90c2b903c073be6d676cf91a33346303.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/41309">The spokesperson said, “This in turn will create additional jobs and secure a bright future for boat building in Devon and the UK.
