(Company)">Tankoa</a> takes a significant step towards establishing a presence at the port of Civitavecchia for the construction of yacht hulls. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/289878/image/large-89c34c3d76d217f017d384537d417507.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/289878">The Central-Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority has recently posted a notice on its official bulletin board regarding the application submitted by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1661" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tankoa Yachts S.p.A. (Company)">Tankoa</a> for the release of a state property concession according to Article 36 of the Navigation Code.The subject of the application is the request for a concession according to Article 36 of the Navigation Code, for a duration of four years, for the occupation of a maritime state property area measuring 30,536 square metresThis action follows recent announcements and publicly expressed intentions by the company to acquire at least a portion of the former <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2588" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Privilege Yard S.p.A. (Company)">Privilege shipyard</a> for complementary carpentry activities, which are preparatory for the construction of hulls. These hulls will then be transferred to the Genoa Sestri Ponente yard for the final outfitting phases.Last May the CEO of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1661" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tankoa Yachts S.p.A. (Company)">Tankoa Yachts</a>, Vincenzo Poerio, publicly presented the company's development plans in Civitavecchia, specifying that the planned activities, utilising existing expertise, would include "metalwork, mechanics, electronics, insulation, and painting. We want to start with the construction of hulls and superstructures and all pre-assembly activities for superyachts under the Tankoa brand."He further stated that the project’s long term vision would involve "creating or collaborating with companies that form specialised personnel to engage in more diverse activities, including nautical furnishings and interior activities”.

Tankoa submits concession application for Civitavecchia facility

According to Italian news source La Nazione, the Rome-based shipyard Privilege’s former CEO has been placed under house arrest following charges of fraudulent activity. Mario La Via and former manager Antonio Battista have been connected to offenses involving tax crimes, violating anti-mafia legislation and failing to declare his company as bankrupt while applying for further loans. In September 2011 SuperYachtTimes.com was the first to report about a 127 metre superyacht under construction at the shipyard. This project remains incomplete.

Following the charges, the company’s estate, with a value of approximately €25,000,000, has been seized by financial authorities. An estimated debt in excess of €180,000,000 forced financial police to take these steps. The fate of the company and its management remains unknown.

Privilege Yachts’ CEO arrested

In September 2011 SuperYachtTimes.com was the first to report about a 127 metre superyacht under construction in Italy, at the Privilege Yacht Company, the Privilege Yard s.p.a today. Recently, SYT spoke to the yacht's designer, Abdeslam Laraki, designer and founder of Laraki Yacht Design. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/140685/image/large-2ef25cbffeec46c407f455ae8489a155.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/140685">"In 2006 I was contracted to design a specific line of mega yachts, ranging from 120 to 160m, to be constructed at the company’s recently built shipyard in the port of Civitavecchia" Abdeslam tells us, of which Privilege One is the first superyacht of the series, for which Laraki Yacht Design created its exterior design and styling. The 127 metre yacht is expected to launch by the end of 2012. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/140686/image/large-0e4d30252702cefad741aef60199f270.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/140686">Abdeslam continues, "From the start of the collaboration, I was given the brief and mission to create a specific yacht design. A distinctive, esthetic, harmonious, recognizable design, yet classical enough to withstand time. A design, made to suite a range of yachts for Privilege. A design with enough personal character and distinctive esthetic features that even when built in different sizes, will still convey its affiliation to the ship yard. In that aspect, the challenge is met, since I was able to give dimension and matter to Privilege’s written wish for style, distinction and stance". <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/140687/image/large-b5248e97c525a85e71b84dae43689eee.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/140687">"During my collaboration with Privilege Yacht Company as their lead designer, I delivered the yacht’s design with its respective CAD files, all according to the cahier des charges submitted at the time. But my collaboration with Privilege did not stop there. In addition to the design, I was in charge of the development of the yacht’s initial metal structure in 3D, integrating all its technical and construction aspects and details. It was a demanding task that paid at the end, since it allowed naval architects and engineers collaborating on the project to precisely visualize the full yacht and ultimately make all the necessary adjustments at an early stage. During my collaboration with Privilege, I also stayed long periods in Rome, to initiate a few members of Privilege’s team to the skills of professional and industrial CAD work for a better communication between us, and to give Privilege team a better autonomy for the future, when working in 3D". <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/140688/image/large-73f3b1a9a6268487ff07beb6408715f3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/140688">One of the particularities of building superyachts, is the fact that in most cases, the yacht undergoes modifications during its construction period. Privilege One is no exception. "In September 2011, Privilege decided to add an additional deck to its first yacht already in construction from the Privilege series. The design of such important modification was naturally given to me, even if I was quite skeptical at the time to the idea of adding a deck to the top of the original superstructure. Finally, the result turned out to be quite satisfactory, since I have managed to add the required deck while preserving the overall balance of my original design". With the designer's six year exclusivity deal with the yard is nearing the end, Laraki Yacht Design is opening horizons for new collaborations, projects and possibilities. One of these projects we will publish about later on this week. Meanwhile, the second yacht of the series, a 137 metre yacht has recently entered its construction phase on May 26. A ceremony was held on the same date at the shipyard to commemorate the event. Designer comments on 127 metre Privilege One superyacht project

Building superyachts often is about pushing boundaries and aiming beyond the horizon. Leave it to the Italians to realize such ambitious plans in an elegant way. At the brand new Privilege Yard in Civitavecchia, just northwest of Rome, some exciting new big projects are taking place. The yard plans to build an impressive three superyachts per year, of which the first hull is already fully constructed externally. Interiors are currently being built and this impressively sized 126 metre vessel promises to be top of the line. During the four years of developing the megayard, extensive research has been put into developing new procedures of production, ensuring top quality superyachts as well as high levels of efficiency during every phase of development and construction. Their current project, which for now goes by the name of P435, will be the first of many exciting new ventures. Privilege Yard is planning to run multiple projects simultaneously in the future, so this 126 metre superyacht is looked upon with great anticipation and shall undoubtedly be a baptism in more than one way.
