Built on the hull of a tug vessel that began construction in 1995 at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4564" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Scheepswerf Made (Company)">Made shipyard</a> in the Netherlands, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3735" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Noorderzon36.4m (119'5&quot;)Stemat BV2012">Noorderzon</a> was never destined for a life of heavy-duty work. Previously known as Lars, the project was halted mid-build and later acquired by a private owner who commissioned her completion at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/434" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Balk Shipyard (Company)">Balk Shipyard</a>, where she was relaunched in 2012 as an explorer yacht.&nbsp;Originally conceived as a high-powered utility vessel, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3735" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Noorderzon36.4m (119'5&quot;)Stemat BV2012">Noorderzon</a> was reimagined by Dutch designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/28" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Felix Buytendijk Yacht Design (Company)">Felix Buytendijk</a> with key superyacht features such as a sundeck, extended swim platform, and a layout optimised for long-range cruising.
