However, it is important to note that these propositions haven't always been readily embraced, as they sometimes challenge the established production paradigms of these shipyards.&nbsp;Despite encountering resistance, we’ve persisted in offering our distinct designs and services, which have been well-received by those seeking our expertise. However, it is clear that there is a reluctance to embrace change and veer from established production norms. It was in the face of this challenge that we made a decisive choice - to take matters into our own hands and set up <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Centouno Navi (Company)">CENTOUNONAVI</a>.&nbsp;What sets&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Centouno Navi (Company)">Centouno Navi</a>&nbsp;apart from other yacht builders?Manuela Lucchesi: We take pride in our technical and engineering-oriented approach, as we manage every aspect in-house, right from the initial concept of the yacht to its realisation, including engineering design and material selection. Every step of the process is crafted with the utmost care and expertise, ensuring that each detail is meticulously designed and brought to life by our dedicated team.Marco Arnaboldi: We have harmonised the latest advancements with around four decades of research and development achievements. As emphasised earlier, While numerous shipyards pursue collaboration, they frequently falter in embracing innovation. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Centouno Navi (Company)">CENTOUNONAVI</a> remains undeterred, having firmly established and perpetually refined its designs. Personally, the most challenging aspect for me has been the duration of the sea voyage. The quicker I reached my destination, the more I could eagerly anticipate and relish what awaited me next.&nbsp;Manuela Lucchesi: Marco is an avid speed enthusiast, whether it be car races or even space races. He has such a passion for speed that if he were to journey to the moon, he'd arrive in half the usual time.Marco Arnaboldi: We've experienced firsthand that even with a limited time and a longing to reach stunning destinations, the allure of a pristine sea awaits, even in places far from Viareggio. With our engineering capabilities, one can contemplate a journey to the island of Elba. While a conventional boat demands three hours, our vessels can reduce the voyage to a mere hour and fifteen minutes. Moreover, it's now possible to venture to the Emerald Coast in Sardinia or Corsica – typically a seven-hour voyage by traditional means – within a swift three and a half hours aboard our yachts.Manuela Lucchesi: In today’s maritime landscape, shipowners' demand for speed is paramount. Their needs are dynamic, whether from wanting to be at one location to swiftly reaching another for dinner or finding a secluded beach. We've meticulously engineered our vessels to be both swift and serene/tranquil. Thanks to our waterjet propulsion system, vibrations are virtually eliminated, resulting in a remarkably smooth and pleasant experience even at high speeds.Since my entry into the industry at the age of 18, I've come to observe how different propulsion methods can attain comparable speeds. However, this achievement often comes at a price, impacting the overall design of a yacht and diminishing its comfort. Our philosophy is fundamentally rooted in crafting yachts that offer not only impressive speed but also unparalleled comfort and luxury—qualities that may be absent in other similar vessels.You may have noticed an emerging trend in the industry where many shipyards are incorporating waterjets into their production lines. Interestingly, we've been at the forefront of this transformation, frequently contributing as consultants or designers for these projects. The adoption of our expertise and approach by numerous shipyards underscores the demand for yachts that offer exceptional speed capabilities without sacrificing comfort.While some may find satisfaction cruising at 40 knots, our determination propels us further. We strive to push the boundaries, aiming for speeds that exceed by 20 knots beyond, all while ensuring a seamless and harmonious experience for those onboard.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/280634/image/large-34646c82641cacd36a4aa4dee570f573.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/280634">Could you elaborate on the engineering aspects of achieving and optimising high-speed performance in your yachts?Marco Arnaboldi: To achieve and optimise high-speed performance in our yachts, we've adopted an unconventional approach that revolves around the concept of doing more with less. Traditional methods involve adding significant horsepower to a boat, leading to challenges such as the need for larger engines and increased fuel capacity. However, this framework results in a heavier engine, reduced comfort, and the necessity for a stronger, albeit heavier, structure.In contrast, our strategy focuses on efficiency through lightweight engineering. We've designed a hull that upholds &nbsp;the same performance standards while achieving a 30% reduction in weight. This weight reduction not only allows us to employ engines with 30% less horsepower but also facilitates the use of engines that are 50% lighter than their conventional counterparts. As a result, we can integrate smaller waterjets, distinct from those required for larger engines.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/274110/image/large-bf672d9b3d48a1df2f788d558b4a4d48.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/274110">Our commitment to innovation extends to the interior as well. We employ technology that minimises the use of wood and embraces lighter, recycled, or recyclable materials. This approach results in a remarkable 70% reduction in furniture weight. This reduction in wood usage aligns with our eco-conscious mindset, leading to fewer trees cut, decreased fuel consumption, and lower CO2 emissions. This philosophy has solidified our motto: "fast is green," a principle we have effectively demonstrated.Consider our panels, they have a wood content that is 70% less than traditional wood panels, and are notably lighter. The foam and wood within these panels are both recycled and recyclable, contributing to our efforts in minimising our environmental footprint.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/225987/image/large-b2a7d7c26dd4661261d04c977f36a8c4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/225987">As for flooring, we have adopted a floating floor design that remains unconnected from the structure, we've implemented elastic bonds developed in collaboration with leading adhesive manufacturers. These polyurethane glues, employing PVC for maximum wood adhesion, create a secure bond that remains resilient even under stress.Our innovative engineering capacity also extends to the very structure of our yachts. Although structural bulkheads are commonly considered imperative for stability, we've collaborated with our skilled structural engineers to demonstrate that our vessels can be designed without them. This unique approach allows us to craft custom specifications for each client's needs. Clients can request adjustments to the placement of bulkheads or even envision an entirely open boat layout, all without the need to modify the hull. These features, although they may seem astounding, exemplify the tangible results of our innovative philosophy.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/280633/image/large-a23564239dbffc7377b4d56bcf091438.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/280633">Can you share details about your construction capacity and offer insights into any upcoming planned developments for the future?Marco Arnaboldi: Our objective is to focus on delivering tailored projects rather than the mass production of yachts. Currently, our current production capacity allows us to build up to four units of the Vespro model per year. Additionally, we are finalising negotiations for the construction of our 27-metre Forza model.&nbsp;Manuela Lucchesi: Our vision for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6700" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Centouno Navi (Company)">CENTOUNONAVI</a> is one of growth and expansion. We’re actively engaged in ongoing negotiations, driven by high expectations and anticipation of our Vespro model. Need for speed: The foundation of CENTOUNONAVI

CENTOUNONAVI emerges as an upcoming shipyard in the superyacht sector with a reputation for specialising in waterjet propulsion cruisers.

<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a> is an Italian shipyard with a dynasty that spans the best part of a century. Despite being founded in 1945 in Limite sull’Arno to build and repair smaller yachts, by 1956 the yard was moved to Darsena Pisana as it had started signing projects too large for its facility.&nbsp;The shipyard has had an illustrious history, delivering more than 700 yachts &nbsp;– the largest of which being the 43.6-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1655" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cap de Quers43.6m (143'1&quot;)Cantieri di Pisa2006">Cap de Quers</a>. The 27.43-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7829" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nasima 27.43m (89'12&quot;)Cantieri di Pisa2012">Nasima</a> was the yard’s last build, and following her delivery in 2012 the yard closed and was finally sold.&nbsp;The shipyard was bought 18 months ago and is back in business, with a fleet of new projects under its new leadership. SuperYacht Times sat down with CEO Marco Massabò to hear all about it.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/260833/image/large-8899422b8b6ae0ea4429c0654f8f493f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/260833">What is your background prior to&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a>?&nbsp;Yachts have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My father was a wood master and started working at a shipyard in Imperia, Italy, 70 years ago. I love boats and have professionally sailed for many years, competing from the Optimist to the Maxi yacht regattas – I’ve had a long collaboration with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/758" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="North Sails (Company)">North Sails</a>.&nbsp;In 1992 I met Luca Bassani, founder of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/166" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wally (Company)">Wally</a>, and worked alongside him for 20 years. The brand was missing a refit yard in Italy, so I bought and founded one (WS Shipyard) in Savona. It's been very successful. I then moved into consultancy around 2010, working with clients both in yachting and shipping.&nbsp;I was working with some major players – it was a nice life. But around a year and a half ago, Enrico Gennasio (president and owner of the Alfagomma group) told me he was going to buy <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a>, asking if I wanted to work with him.&nbsp;A great opportunity. I immediately got to work, spending time with naval architects and exterior designers, dreaming up the best yachts we can bring to market. The shipyard had great energy, and a number of great international designers came to visit us. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259110/image/large-dc2f2a0d48808d14b563a945716e4215.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259110"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a>&nbsp;is back building yachts. Do these new models reflect a new vision?<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a> is an iconic brand. We’re not here to change the rules, we want to rewrite them. The yachts that we’ve started to build are different from what <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a> traditionally did. But we also want to be different from our competitors.&nbsp;Rather than starting from aesthetics, our primary interest is weight. We want to save as much weight as possible, to build and deliver some of the lightest yachts on the market. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a> yachts are fast, agile, and incredibly sleek and all have shallow drafts. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/258737/image/large-8913f6c24d1edd5383a600b3c775dbbb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/258737">The 25m 80 Veloce – the first&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a>&nbsp;yacht since 2012 – is scheduled for delivery this year. Can you say a few words about her?&nbsp;The 80 Veloce is our first yacht. We wanted to build something that embodies our new philosophy – and she’s crazy fast! She’ll be equipped with three 2,000 horsepower V12 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1441" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MAN (Company)">MAN</a> engines that deliver a top speed in excess of 60 knots. The series has been well received and we already have clients signed for the second and third hull.&nbsp;She’s not for everyone though – which is why we’re about to present a Gran Turismo edition to the market. The 80 GT is based on the same lightweight hull yet with a more family-focused design. She’ll also be equipped with two engines, not three. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/258738/image/large-72d27a22a4c507d152fcab6398958f5e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/258738"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a>&nbsp;also presented the new Akhir series. Has this model line been well received and are you considering building on speculation?&nbsp;The Akhir series is a new design for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a> which is offered in three sizes: a 31-metre, a 37-metre and a 42-metre flagship. Much like the 80 Veloce the idea is to keep the weight down as much as possible. The series has a contemporary design and we’re in talks about whether to build the first unit on speculation – it might happen, but I can’t confirm either way at this moment in time. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259105/image/large-50b2769c2995a007591094d39d092014.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259105">Why is weight such an important topic for&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a>?Any sailor will tell you the importance of weight – they just will. I’ve personally sailed around the world on some of the world’s most important and fastest boats, and every time their core attribute was weight. However, shipyards and designers rarely consider weight early on when they’re planning a new project. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a> does things differently, it’s my absolute credo. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259106/image/large-848f31e2855eb67f5df5c8156f48eba3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259106">Choosing to build light implies a commitment to delivering yachts with shallow drafts. How else are you trying to maximise this across all your series?&nbsp;We’ll equip both the 80 Veloce and Gran Turismo series with waterjets. Waterjets are the safest way to arrive at high speeds and they can go in really shallow waters. And to overcome issues of sucking up sand (a particular issue in Miami), we’ve added a special sea chest. It's a simple, not crazy innovation.&nbsp;Coming from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/166" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wally (Company)">Wally</a>, I of course have taken inspiration from their model lines and I especially like what they’ve done with the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/166" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wally (Company)">Wally</a> 118 Power – the James Bond yacht. But I’ve also listened closely to my friend and naval architect, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1206" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Marco Arnaboldi (Company)">Marco Arnaboldi</a>, who designed many fast boats, including the CDP80 veloce. He’s one of the best in the world when it comes to waterjet technology. We decided to follow him on our design – there isn’t anyone better! <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259100/image/large-e738a900d681e7e9b00f4677cfafd4fd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259100">An automotive designer and America’s Cup engineer collaborating on your designs. How did this come about?It’s simple. We want speed and performance, so why not bring in the best? A typical motor yacht goes around 18 to 20 knots, yet a high-performance America’s Cup sailing yacht reaches speeds of up to 40 knots – it’s a big difference, even if you factor out the foils. At <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a> we want to use this knowledge to study the possibilities of reducing as much drag as possible with our yachts. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/260834/image/large-1241be498043c5a2ee330d299e207c7c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/260834">For the past 18 months,&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a>&nbsp;has focused exclusively on refits. Why?&nbsp;We weren’t ready for new builds until now, we needed to establish ourselves. When we took over <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a>, it hadn’t been operating for 10 years. We invested around €1.5 million to renovate the facilities and in the past 18 months, we have worked on 27 yachts, which brings a good level of return for the business: building capital and our reputation.&nbsp;Working as a refit yard has also put us in direct communication with many captains, which is great for our Research &amp; Development. For the past 18 months, we’ve been learning the trouble points and how to build a perfect yacht, designed for the captain.&nbsp;We’ve continued to invest and we’ll soon announce a new facility.&nbsp;

Her hull will be constructed out sandwich composite, making her 30 percent lighter than her competitors and extremely agile. The ‘Smart Performance’ SP110 yacht series would see a collaboration between several designers to embody <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a>’s founding principles. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> have unveiled two new sustainable models for 2022 with the 28-metre SD90/s and the 33-metre SP110. The semi-displacement SD90/s shuttle and the open coupé SP110 will be revealed at the September boat shows, with research put into lowering their environmental impact.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228910/image/large-945e5e7f4dbd650f8b98c4041f65331c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228910">The SD90/s was developed thanks to an exclusive partnership with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1981" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Siemens (Company)">Siemens Energy</a> on methanol fuel cells to make yachts more environmentally friendly. The SD90/s is the third model in <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo’s</a> popular semi displacement series that began with the SD96 and SD118. With two and a half decks, the SD90/s features an open flybridge and is configured with a lower deck and main deck. The bow area of the main deck is conceived as a partial full beam and characterises the volume of the owner's stateroom in an unusual way, providing a more spacious area inside compared to a traditional layout.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228921/image/large-f96057b6ea6a9cba52c836b3bbae2b12.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228921">The bow area can be adapted to meet the needs of the owner with two different configurations. The wood panelling has been clad in cannulated Paper Factor and the sustainable terrazzo used in the bathrooms has been selected to ensure a lower environmental impact. The SD90/s aims to offer high performance by optimising the power generated by her lithium batteries when sailing. The project was made possible by a collaboration between <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuccon International Project (Company)">Bernardo Zuccon</a> for the exteriors, Tilli Antonelli at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a> product development, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1206" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Marco Arnaboldi (Company)">Marco Arnaboldi</a> for the hull design, and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/78" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lissoni Associati (Company)">Piero Lissoni</a> for the interiors.The SP110 will be the first yacht in the ‘Smart Performance’ range with a vision for high performance with maximum energy efficiency. Thanks to a fractional propulsion system, the boat is able to move around using just one engine, a pair, or all three; thus allowing great flexibility, low consumption and different autonomy depending on the desired speed.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/228908/image/large-0cd7367ede8c2cebca9bf516c459e3bc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/228908">The hull of the SP110 has been optimised for use with hydro jet propulsion. &nbsp;This type of propulsion is an advantage over propeller propulsion because it is less sensitive to variations in the boat's weight and therefore more versatile. To further optimise consumption and performance lighter materials such as laminated glass have been used for the larger surfaces. On the upper deck, the large sundeck deck is complemented by the wheelhouse overlooking the bow. The lowered deck allows the lower deck to be enjoyed from a view of the living area aft and the sea, while outside, from the deck aft, there is visual access to the lower lounge on the main deck. Under the flooring it is possible to place a tender that disappears completely from view allowing a total use of the spaces up to sea level.The design of the SP110 embodies Sanlorenzo's vision in which the founding principles of sustainability, comfort and exclusivity converge. This new design projects the shipyard into the future and completely moves away from conventional models in the same market segment. As well as this it sets a new benchmark for the models that will follow.
