The company is now approaching new international markets, in its first phase focusing on Turkey and Northern Europe. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/267419/image/large-a060b98ca925d52e008b1ef2890e3a8e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/267419">Currently focused on the study and applicability of augmented reality, which it expects could facilitate the implementation of autonomous driving, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4369" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team Italia (Company)">TEAM Italia</a> is already experimenting with this technology in collaboration with partner companies. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4369" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team Italia (Company)">Team Italia</a> has been a leader in the integration and optimisation of navigation, telecommunications, security and data transmission for 20 years. The company has delivered over 500 bridges on yachts, more than half of which are custom integrated i-Bridge systems. We visit their headquarters in Livorno to take a closer look at the latest iteration.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259748/image/large-74e5156a3f798ef5c82f855ae65909d7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259748">The conversation of automation is not new, often facing opposition from captains and owners who raise concerns about the safety and security of digitalising navigation. Over the course of the past decade, however, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4369" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team Italia (Company)">Team Italia</a> has been quietly developing software to improve safety and usability. Its fully integrated i-Bridge integrated touch bridge series both looks good and simplifies vessel control by centralising automation within one system.During the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/97" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2021">2021 Monaco Yacht Show</a> the company unveiled its latest iteration, the Dharma Next i-Bridge. The result of dedicated R&amp;D during the closure period of 2020-2021, the upgraded version of its award-winning series features an all-new HMI (Human-Machine Interface).&nbsp;This year 26 yachts will be delivered with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4369" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team Italia (Company)">Team Italia</a> bridges, including the first Custom Line 140, the flagship of the series by the Ferretti Group, and the 13th Tecnomar for Lamborghini high-speed motoryacht, all of which are equipped with the integrated bridge system. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259746/image/large-1e92c12db03494c858fc64eabe936f80.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259746">IntegrationLike a standard bridge, the i-Bridge system is centralised at the helm station and operates the steering, propulsion and navigation of the vessel. However, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4369" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team Italia (Company)">Team Italia</a> has integrated these functions with almost all other digitally operated systems aboard the yacht. For example, the i-Bridge is able to monitor and run diagnostic reports, offering the captain 3D diagrams of the systems that identify not only the issue, but also make recommendations for the solution.“Unlike a fixed bridge, the i-Bridge offers unified controls from any desired sector of the vessel, which means that the controls can be accessed from wherever they are needed,” says Massimo Minellla, CEO of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4369" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team Italia (Company)">Team Italia</a>. “Once a system has been integrated onto the control hub, the captain and crew can make a decision about where to view and control that system.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259742/image/large-24521af8e8341bf331c40b814f4a023d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259742">While many vessels feature a fixed glass or foil bridge configuration, they have a number of limitations. The mechanical integration of the yacht's control panel is often chosen during the construction of a vessel and therefore is specifically tailored to the original captain, owner or shipyard’s wishes.Should the vessel’s management be changed, the modification of a mechanical integration requires the complete reconfiguration of the control panels, which can be a hugely costly and timely process. Team Italia’s automated and touch screen i-Bridge allows for remote reconfiguration and the fully integrated nature of the bridge means that all systems can be operated from each panel, rather than a fixed order of controls, as with a mechanical integration. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259741/image/large-3276f9cc32e4ae30a642b6af16aa606d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259741">Safety FirstThe concept of digitally controlled mechanics has raised concerns in the industry over safety in case of faults and software issues that may lead to damages. While the system is digitally controlled, should issues occur with the control of the vessel the i-Bridge can be mechanically overridden. In the case of software related issues, the Team Italia engineers are able to run remote diagnostics and, if necessary, access the system and solve the problem without having to board the vessel.&nbsp;The obvious fears around the possible breach of privacy have also been assuaged. In order for a TI engineer to access the system they must follow a strict protocol and be admitted by the captain of the vessel. The digital system of the vessel is protected by a strong firewall, which prevents accessing any data unless explicitly permitted.&nbsp;“The advantage is that we’re able to continually update the software remotely, which is more cost effective than having to manually replace systems as with a fixed glass or foil bridge,” says Minella. “Moreover, should there be a specific fault, the onboard engineer can replace the part and we can remotely programme it.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/259745/image/large-7f71cca46cb524e6529d358b43e83385.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/259745">CustomisationThe i-Bridge system is entirely customisable. During the production process, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4369" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team Italia (Company)">Team Italia</a> works alongside the yacht designers, shipyard and owner’s team to identify and make recommendations for the best solutions for each vessel, offering up-to four separate stations, which can be arranged as per the desires of the owner’s team.Once the specifications of the bridge have been determined, the system is pre-assembled at the testing facility in Livorno and the captain and owner is invited to test and trial the ergonomics of the setup. This allows for configuration development, both within the software and the stations themselves.&nbsp;Already turning its mind to the potential of augmented reality, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4369" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team Italia (Company)">Team Itali</a>a is currently developing an AR system to aid in the operation of the technical spaces aboard vessels. Spanning more than 70 square metres, the owner has customised the space into three distinct zones: a study at the entrance, a private lounge with media room to port and a large sleeping area forward. (Company)">Videoworks</a>&nbsp;- and its steel-bodied lights, LEDs and home automation system. The 120-square-metre sundeck is dominated by a sunbathing and lounge area with four sun loungers, sofas, a pop-up TV with a swivel system, a dining table and barbecue. Another living area can be found in the interior space of this deck, which is complemented by a buffet unit and wine cellar. TEAM Italia's CEO on the Rolls-Royce partnership and new bridge solution

Having joined forces one-year ago, Rolls-Royce and TEAM Italia are rolling out their newly developed solution for the integrated bridge. 

Italian yard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi&nbsp;</a>has announced that its 25.5-metre Eco-Tender project has touched the water in Viareggio. The all-aluminium motor yacht is due for delivery in April this year and has been built as a tender and supplementary vessel for a client who also owns a 52-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi</a> sailing yacht.&nbsp; <img src="/uploads/store/photo/65628/image/large-bbde33ebdaa5ff98750d746533df0342.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/65628">The reasons for the owners choosing to build the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi&nbsp;</a>Eco-Tender were various: firstly, they were looking for more flexible cabin space to accommodate single guests or children, and secondly, as they prefer to anchor offshore, they were looking to be able to explore closer inshore in something more substantial than a conventional RIB.&nbsp;With in-house design and naval architecture, her lines are in the characteristic style of the yard and come from the drawing boards of the Italian yard's head of design, Franco Romani. The vessel features high bulwarks enabling guests to step straight across from the deck to the mothership.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/65685/image/large-4e078a418ff79b5f24da39489726a85a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/65685"> The contemporary interior, also designed in-house, is based on brushed teak and white lacquered joinery and includes a full dinette-salon and galley on the main deck. Below deck, six guests are accommodated, across a full-beam VIP suite, a double cabin forward and a third twin cabin with twin single beds, all of which include ensuite bathrooms. A crew of two is also housed on board.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/23299/image/large-7545ff0e20a21a33fe3179cb1e9622f6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/23299">As for her on-deck amenities, as well as a comfortable aft cockpit with lounge seating, sunpads and a swim platform, the 25.5-metre tender also features a sunken foredeck seating area, enabling the owner to pursue his passion for nature photography. &nbsp; “The classic exterior styling of the Eco-tender shares the same family feeling as Perini Navi’s historic sailing fleet, right down to the dark blue hull and red load line,”&nbsp;commented Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi.</a>&nbsp;“But it is clearly no ordinary tender and represents a new breed of super-tender with amenities and technologies to match. As a boat designed and built with a yacht mentality that mirrors all the high-quality hallmarks of Perini Navi, this cutting-edge tender breaks new ground as the brand continues to refine its product range to meet the evolving demands of the market.”&nbsp; <img src="/uploads/store/photo/65626/image/large-45203b4a098239ebd853059f9c510a12.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/65626">Regarding performance, power on the Perini Navi Eco-Tender will come from a diesel-electric drivetrain comprising a pair of 1,627 HP engines twinned to Hamilton Hm531 waterjets which will allow her to achieve a maximum speed of 30 knots and cruise at eight knots, with a range at cruising speed of 1,000 nautical miles.&nbsp;The hybrid propulsion system developed by Siemens provides four operational modes, including zero-emission mode, which enables the tender to cruise at low speeds in marine parks and other environmentally sensitive areas with no emissions and no noise. At the owner's request, close attention has been paid to minimising noise in all propulsion modes and contractual sound levels are below 55dB throughout. After launching i-Bridge® Air Wings at the Monaco Yacht Show last year, the specialist marine electronics applicators presented the latest version of its integrated nav-com system at the 2018 edition. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/52566/image/large-46eb7f8dcc2420b6970d17044c8272b8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/52566">Known as the i-Bridge® Panorama VBS (Virtualized Bridge Solution), the upgraded version adds more functionality and new wrap-around displays to the existing i-Bridge package that has already been installed on around 200 vessels, including six of the superyachts on display in Monaco from brands such as Benetti, Rossinavi, Sanlorenzo, Custom Line and Wider.“The Virtualized Bridge Solution is the result of 14 months of R&amp;D,” says Team Italia CEO, Massimo Minnella. “We’ve basically evolved the proven i-Bridge® system still further with 4K resolution throughout and added Augmented Reality functions viewable on wide screens and heads-up displays that can be placed in key locations so they can be easily viewed anywhere on the bridge.”<img src="/uploads/store/photo/52562/image/large-1950b9748016eac69d8a5e056e662936.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/52562">Augmented Reality is a field of Virtual Reality that fuses virtual objects with the real environment through computer graphics technology by overlapping the data on real-world images. The technology provides an intuitive solution to a common problem for navigators: fast and effective delivery of information, particularly alert functions, in bridge environments with limited screen space. &nbsp;&nbsp;The TEAM Italia stand in Monaco featured a simulated wheelhouse with stretched screens mounted under the wheelhouse ‘windows’. These screens can visualize any of the data that appears on the central i-Bridge® console, according to the captain’s preference. <img src="/uploads/store/photo/52563/image/large-4d34562be9ac07c1eb48d308d098d17c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/52563">Via the system’s multi-touch controls and joggers, Minnella demonstrated how the i-Bridge® Panorama VBS works in practice with scenarios that crews commonly have to deal with on board. Take anchor operations, for example. These usually rely on a crew member leaning over the bow to visually monitor the anchor’s movement up and down. The i-Bridge® Panorama VBS can simulate the sea state and render in 3D the anchor’s progress, while also indicating its depth and the length of anchor chain deployed.&nbsp;In similar fashion, if a chiller or fan coil alarm sounds, the integrated system can identify the exact location of the failed unit by rendering it in 3D and display the technical information for replacement. Full redundancy is provided by a master-and-slave watchdog system.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/52564/image/large-7b48b39a7898c2d34fd6f08d7890a9ee.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/52564">Suitable for installation aboard superyachts over 50 metres, the i-Bridge® Panorama VBS would require 6-8 video cameras to be placed in critical locations to provide Augmented Reality feedback.&nbsp;In the meantime, TEAM Italia continues the growth it has enjoyed over the past 20 years with production running at full pace through to 2021.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/52565/image/large-be9513d563aa72512c098c8322d26d94.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/52565">“With over five hundred 30 to 100-metre projects already launched, we can confirm our market trend is upward,” says Minnella. “We’re working on 31 new superyachts this year and already have 42 confirmed orders for production starting in 2019 and 14 for 2020.”&nbsp;

Drawing to a close today at the RAI convention centre in Amsterdam is the annual METSTRADE show, attracting over 15,000 international visitors who are all interested in finding out what the latest innovations in the field of leisure yachting are. I headed to the event’s famous SuperYacht Pavilion to find just some of the most exciting innovations for superyachts on display here.<iframe width="710" height="390" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5CPwbll83LY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>After a morning cruise from the SuperYacht Company office to the RAI with Dutch leisure boat builder, Lekker Boats, we arrived at METSTRADE ready for a day of finding the coolest tech and toys on offer to superyacht owners and captains. Oculus’ innovative Nautiq app caught our intention as did Fender Systems’ clever self-deploying fender solution.After seeing Team Italia’s modern I-Bridge Air Wings helm station at the Monaco Yacht Show we just had to get a closer look here at METSTRADE. The system also includes the I-Chart table, which is similar to the version of the product shown by TEAM Italia in 2016, but with the addition of a conning display panel that can be configured according to the operator’s desires. The ultrawide display found on the central console allows for a new type of head-up display. Based on a 180-degree wide panoramic camera, the display offers a new way of implementing the head-up transparent display screen shown by the company in 2016.
