Yachting Dinner Night, the culinary event dedicated to the leading players of the contemporary superyacht scene, arrived for the second time in Pietrasanta, Viareggio, Italy. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/261856/image/large-eec070df5f80b9517b72715376fdaa6f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/261856">The previous two editions in Pietrasanta and Amsterdam were a great success and inspired curators <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7067" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Towant (Company)">TOWANT</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7068" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ceragioli-Storåkers Associates (Company)">Ceragioli-Storåkers Associates</a> to replicate the event once again. The dinner was held on 14 March.Five shipyards competed against one another to present the best dish to an audience of nautical-architectural practices, international design brands and the press. (Company)">Amico &amp; Co</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/54" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Heesen Yachts (Company)">Heesen</a>, Amer Yachts, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> took to the kitchen for the first Yachting Dinner Night of 2023. The shipyards arranged a five courses menu of creative dishes: Sinergia, a typical capponada from Liguria; OSS-Paragus Bake, a silver-plated fish &amp; asparagus that pays tribute to Heesen’s Dutch origins; The Blooming Effect, a green risotto with flowers from Sanremoen tradition; Muscoli a km 0, mussels from La Spezia, Italy; and The Origin of Beauty, a special dessert to celebrate Benetti’s 150th birthday.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/261863/image/large-85f4db16e99c3b81f62cbe1f2175dfe9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/261863"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/261853/image/large-010395619f68ac51dc8ee1ff8dd596b4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/261853"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/261855/image/large-af00dac7a67359fda6ad2c1efe1cc516.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/261855">Cesana, Dornbracht, Flos, Model Maker Group and Videoworks, as well as representatives from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2589" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss) (Company)">SYBAss</a> and the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1429" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show (Company)">Monaco Yacht Show</a>, formed the jury. An unsuspected email landed in my inbox inviting me to “a night to remember” – and I was not disappointed. I had already seen videos circulating the internet of the first Yachting Dinner Night, held in Italy and hosted by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7067" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Towant (Company)">TOWANT</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7068" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ceragioli-Storåkers Associates (Company)">Ceragioli-Storåkers Associate</a>, so my expectations were high. Incredibly high. But the team pulled out all the stops, and it was without a doubt “a night to remember”.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/262082/image/large-410b69336018f7502979e660f54529c2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/262082">The concept is a peculiar one: a collection of shipyards coming together, competing one another to deliver the best dish of the night. While food may take pride of place, the main focus is actually to reduce the “vertical” distance between supply chain stakeholders and shipyards. “The idea was to put industry people together to talk about something else instead of arguments related to ordinary business relations. It was a truly European night with plates as diverse as the superyachts these brands are known for.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/262083/image/large-d789441ff7ecb842d0bfff278f25b1c5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/262083">First on the bill was <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/18" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Amels (Company)">Amels</a>, which presented a “Sea Flavour Xploring Journey'' that married the oceanic flavours of crab meat with vibrant Mexican spices and sweet pomegranate notes. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef Yachts</a> followed with the second course and brought to the table “Tango” a full-bodied stew of spicy chorizo and flavoursome octopus. The stew was served with fresh, crunchy bread. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a> was in charge of the main course, serving a “North German surf &amp; turf” with a tender steak and crisp prawns on a bed of vegetables and accompanied by smashed potatoes. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/262084/image/large-761135edf33e0c79dc2fc4dcfc52b375.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/262084">Rounding off the night was <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/44" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Abeking & Rasmussen (Company)">Abeking &amp; Rassmussen</a>’s “Around the Globe”, which hands-down was the best-presented dish of the night. A white chocolate globe encased a bouquet of vivid petals and small berries, floating atop a cream mousse.The food was sublime and the guests had a tough choice on their hands: which dish reigned victorious? I joined the debate between the press jury – and the winner was anything but unanimous. After quibbling amongst ourselves, each pitching our favourite dish, we knew we had to pick a winner. And after much consideration, depth of flavour won out: <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef Yachts</a> was victorious.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/262090/image/large-8120247b03e811b3a5d01b103703fd41.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/262090">As we were conferring, the organising committee was collecting the votes for the main award – and each table was in as much disagreement as the press downstairs. But the votes were counted and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/18" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Amels (Company)">Amels</a>' punchy starter was the favourite – kudos <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/18" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Amels (Company)">Amels</a>, it was a spectacular dish. The Yachting Dinner Night is a unique networking opportunity, and one that I was pleased to take part in. The team is its eye on Italy and then Monaco for the next Dinner Nights – for those in the regions, it’s an evening that won’t disappoint!
