Crossing the finish line off Hobart at 00:57 on Wednesday, 28 December, the maxi completed the 628 nautical mile course in a time of one day 11 hours 56 minutes 48 seconds.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/252806/image/large-704819a40e792345d5f0395a9007a050.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/252806">Paying tribute to his team during the dockside award ceremony, Winning said “Everyone played their part and performed impeccably. The yacht whose name translates as ‘to reveal’ in Latin, is considered by the designers to be “a ship of two facets.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/243396/image/large-07ac24ad779644256300ec2e59e5f7ff.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/243396">The aluminium catamaran concept Aperio has a powerful appearance with a unique profile, with crisp lines that link the organic and the technical world. She was created by several architects and designers at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/39" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Peteghem Lauriot Provost (VPLP) (Company)">VPLP Design</a> in collaboration with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6073" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Patrick Le Quément (Company)">Patrick Le Quément</a>. Her transformation from a powerful seagoing craft, to an autonomous floating island features an almost complete metamorphosis.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/243395/image/large-fbadfbc5094104d44ff455b198915525.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/243395">Aperio includes a structure that extends from each side while moored to create more space for her guests to enjoy. The afterdeck features a mobile platform which, when at anchor, lowers to create a Venetian bridge between the two hulls without hindering the access to either of the levels.“With each concept boat we try to push back the boundaries, break down the barriers, and imagine the future of sailing. This boat is a dream but she is nevertheless technically possible,” said <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/39" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Peteghem Lauriot Provost (VPLP) (Company)">VPLP</a> designer Yann Prummel.Her unique twin-masted design also allows for the midships to be used in a truly innovative way. The wings, which are considered as almost twice as efficient as a traditional rig, are fully automated and do not require an experienced crew.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/243394/image/large-bf6847c6c29ca1d7e38fea0f7a399259.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/243394">The open flush deck of Aperio creates the central living area with four separate staterooms for up to 10 guests that are connected in the centre. Her overhead glass also illuminates her spacious main saloon and is inspired by the movement and physique of the manta ray.“At sea, the boat’s powerful physique expresses her desire for motion. She is very sculptural. The marvellous fluidity of the manta ray was the main influence for her design,” said <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6073" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Patrick Le Quément (Company)">Patrick Le Quément</a>.Aperio is also equipped with a hybrid diesel electric propulsion system that provides a silent virtuous sail.&nbsp;

<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/39" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Peteghem Lauriot Provost (VPLP) (Company)">VPLP Design</a> unveiled an all-new state-of-the-art 45-metre trimaran concept at this year’s <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2021">Monaco Yacht Show</a> which is silent, partly automated and propelled by the wind. Seaffinity, as it’s aptly called, has been designed in-house under the direction of Patrick le Quément to emulate the great birds of the sea. Inspired by the lightness, dynamism and beauty of airborne seabirds. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/209030/image/large-0ebe9269b6a646f2f85d967d7f5cb6b1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/209030">“We are always delighted to get feedback from the market,” says Patrick le Quément, “but we also believe that we should ‘listen from a distance’. If we only act in accordance with the wishes of our customers, we risk adopting a ‘me too’ approach which would prevent us from exploring inspirational concepts. Concept boats are a breeding ground for new ideas. Seaffinity will be, without question, a rich source of innovation for our projects in the years to come.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/209033/image/large-8e277a9cacc0ae1835ff360488d564d6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/209033">Seaffinity has a muscular exterior styling that mimics that of a bird in flight and has a domed full-beam superstructure to provide guests with heaps of indoor living space. The outer areas are partially covered to give guests a welcome break from the beating sun when they are entertaining out on the deck. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/209026/image/large-df3a184811c2ed811c3e3ae597f82a18.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/209026">The interior spaces have been curated by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/39" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Peteghem Lauriot Provost (VPLP) (Company)">VPLP Design</a> to be a fully-functional living space. Guests have all the necessary amenities at their disposal, but will not be distracted by any unnecessary trimmings as the team are committed to emphasising the “event of sailing”. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/209027/image/large-39c8906001b4d2e35685834b66c29590.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/209027">“The first concept we released was Manifesto, a name we didn’t choose at random, insofar as we wanted her to be a veritable statement of intent on our part,” says Mathias Maurios, head of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/39" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Peteghem Lauriot Provost (VPLP) (Company)">VPLP</a>’s Yachting Division. “We wanted to offer an alternative to those catamarans that look like layer cakes and seem to stand between the sailor and his element. Our goal was quite the opposite, that the boat should integrate itself into its environment, hence the choice of a wider beam to make for a more stable yacht which is closer to the water, with plenty of natural ventilation and light.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/209028/image/large-02f30457342ee1d17f2ad0179910aff6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/209028">This trimaran concept has a truly eco heart as she is equipped with two Oceanwings, a hybrid engine and is said to generate electricity through a fuel cell and hydrogen. The team wanted to offer a vision for the future of yachting which is more in-tune with nature – sustainability then, is the way forward for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/39" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Peteghem Lauriot Provost (VPLP) (Company)">VPLP Design</a>.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/209024/image/large-3c1b775afc6dbbb7ce6d681bf9436a9a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/209024">“Seaffinity is a clear indication of our determination to exceed expectations and promote our collective creativity,” says Mathias Maurios. “We are often asked about the pertinence of our strategy to publish concept boats, and we always reply that they are an ideal way of moving beyond the projects in development at the firm. This approach allows us to discuss among ourselves the direction vessel design seems to be taking in a world facing multiple environmental issues.”

Parisian design studio Van Peteghem Lauriot Provost (VPLP) unveiled a new 100-foot sloop concept named Ampersand. As a modern take on a classic cruiser, Ampersand offers clients a performance experience with a touch of class.

The project is named after the ‘&amp;’ symbol and signifies the design’s combination of both the competitive and cruising worlds. Marc van Peteghem explains how the studio arrived at this concept: “Our starting point was the work we did for Comanche. For instance, she features a mast set further aft to inject more drive into the sail plan, a towering mainsail and a powerful fore-triangle, as well as a chined hull.”

VPLP Design’s modern classic Ampersand concept

Set to kick off on Saturday 26 December 2015, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will see an international fleet of 110 yachts from 28 nations gather at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in Sydney to embark on the iconic yacht race that covers over 628 nm to reach Hobart on the Tasman Island. Yachts preparing for 71st Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

French design studio VPLP, known for having designed the world's largest catamaran Hemisphere, has come up with a forward-thinking trimaran concept named Komorebi. The 86 metre vessel will be able to cruise under sail or motor power alone and boast a hybrid mode for crossings that will offer at least a 30% more fuel efficient experience.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/157342/image/large-2f259ab34b7b42b1a9c991978dc8306b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/157342">The yacht is elegantly styled and despite her size, clearly displays the usable exterior living spaces. Hodgdon Yachts are nearing the completion of a 100’ maxi yacht with one sole focus: speed. The project is one of the largest single-hull infusions ever completed in America, and is also among the largest of its type worldwide. The 44 metre sailing catamaran Hemisphere underway

French naval architects Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost (VPLP) have unveiled the VPLP 78’, a new catamaran that will deliver a dynamic sailing experience at the helm, combined with the style and comfort of a much larger yacht. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/142487/image/large-6b8cb8341009e251ae6d4b515a076b66.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/142487">The architects have cleverly distributed all the weight and force of the mast into the roof, so there is no mast bulkhead or pillar in the middle of the salon resulting in unobstructed views. Inside, the galley forms the heart of the yacht, around which four separate lounge and dining areas are arranged, both in the open air or inside the saloon. Within the two hulls, two double en-suite cabins and two twin guest cabins all enjoy private en-suite facilities.
