With a &nbsp;production facility on the outskirts of Milan, &nbsp;everything from the design to the final factory testing takes place in-house.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/296154/image/large-d12b185c3ecbb1a4a93cd26f5049b415.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/296154">One of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4705" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="HP High Pressure SRL (Company)">HP Watermakers</a>’ most recent innovations, the HP Part-Net interface, has transformed the way desalination plants are utilised on board yachts. Even before the introduction of Part-NET, its RP TRONIC pressure regulation system had propelled <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4705" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="HP High Pressure SRL (Company)">HP Watermakers</a> ahead in terms of user-friendliness. But watermakers were still hidden away inside technical spaces or engine rooms. Part-NET shattered this norm by bringing the watermaker onto the multifunction display (MFD), allowing captains to access all functionalities directly on any chartplotter or domotic system.<a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/companies/hp-high-pressure-srl" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">HP Watermakers</a>' carries out its own research and development to stay at the cutting-edge of technological developments. As a small, nimble family company, it has the agility to swiftly respond to new challenges and ideas. With a technical team with decades of experience in the field, it can turn an idea into a final product within days by employing advanced machinery such as CNC laser-cutting machines, 5-axis turning and milling machines. By producing 85 per cent of the components in-house, HP Watermakers maintains a steady control over the manufacturing process to guarantee high quality.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/296152/image/large-2b2ce1274db3599c941e6cc9668398d9.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/296152">“While the industry faces numerous challenges today, we’ve proactively tackled supply chain distribution by maintaining a substantial stock of materials for the production of hundreds of units,” says Gianna Zucco, co-founder of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4705" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="HP High Pressure SRL (Company)">HP Watermakers</a>. “The small-scale manufacturing setup requires a high level of stock to facilitate fast deliveries and prevent material shortages that could disrupt production and cash flow. To build a solid foundation for the company, our management has consistently reinvested its profits into securing a stable and sustainable supply chain.”Approximately 95 percent of production is destined for the yacht and superyacht industry, amounting to around 400 units per year and the company is among the few watermaker companies worldwide that manufacture a significant portion of their own components. Moreover, since 2019 it has helped pioneer the production of the only MFD-interfaced watermaker available on the market, garnering acclaim from end-users in the process. Recently, a new addition to its product lineup was revealed: the most compact 500 lt/h unit on the market. Built on the frame of a 120 lt/h unit, it consumes just 3KW/h.Looking ahead, the company anticipates significant developments in the sector as people spend longer stretches of time aboard their yachts, necessitating the autonomous generation of energy and water as basic necessities. “In this scenario, our strategic positioning as a supplier becomes crucial as we strive to guarantee the always-on production of fresh water on board,” says Zucco.Digitalisation has emerged as a vital component of the company’s operations. In 2017, it introduced its BiBi® system, enabling remote control of the unit via the internet. Over 200 yachts currently utilise this service, allowing HP service technicians to identify and prevent issues by remotely accessing the units. By diagnosing problems and dispatching the appropriate parts before the issue escalates, BiBi® has proven to be a powerful asset in ensuring problem-free cruising. It has also established a sales and service network spanning 53 countries, which allows the team to swiftly address the needs of clientele across the globe.&nbsp;“As <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4705" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="HP High Pressure SRL (Company)">HP Watermakers</a> continues to pioneer advancements in the water desalination sector, we are focused on pushing the boundaries of innovation,” concludes Zucco. “By leveraging cutting-edge technology, expanding our global presence and prioritising customer satisfaction, we are poised to shape the future of watermakers for the yachting industry.”&nbsp;Into to the detailsProducing more than 300 units per year, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4705" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="HP High Pressure SRL (Company)">HP Watermakers</a> had a turnover in 2022 of €3 million, with a prediction for 2023 to exceed this turnover. Focusing on the use of artificial intelligence and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/460" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Oossanen Naval Architects (Company)">Van Oossanen</a> has been working to further optimise the FDHF form, “We are actually already able to achieve the 40 percent reduction in emissions through the application of the Fast Displacement Hull Form XL, which can be applied to both superyachts and commercial vessels.” The company's aim now is to have emission free yachts sailing by 2030 – they are already well on their way to achieving this goal.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/229107/image/large-954aa0beb27943e525c79925516a073e.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/229107">While the government has committed to cover 40 percent of the costs of the research, the rest of the funding is being provided by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/460" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Oossanen Naval Architects (Company)">Van Oossanen</a> themselves, a clear demonstration of the company’s commitment to the goal. We asked Niels why Van Oossanen was open to such a major financial commitment. “One of the very interesting things about this project is that there are partners involved working on the entire lifecycle of a vessel, from research to construction, meaning that there are build partners already involved. There are yachting industry shipyards, commercial shipbuilding companies, suppliers and even the Dutch Navy is part of the project. While much has been said in the media about hydrogen, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/460" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Oossanen Naval Architects (Company)">Van Oossanen</a> and its partners believe that methanol holds the brightest prospect for zero emission propulsion as Niels commented, “methanol has been slightly overlooked in our industry and our aim is to create the technical platform that can be employed for methanol yachts and vessels. In addition, you can produce green methanol from the bi-product of other industries, such as grain, and that adds another cyclical layer into the fuel production-use cycle.”&nbsp;Both Niels and Perry recognise that the conversation around alternative fuel options, electric, hydrogen and methanol, all face limitations, namely the lack of infrastructure to produce and store the fuel ashore. Using the tender as a day cruiser for day trips is also becoming more popular with superyacht owners – 35% of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1484" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wajer Yachts (Company)">Wajer</a> tenders we build are now delivered as a superyacht tender. Our 38 footer is the smallest model we make, which is already quite large for a tender! But the 55 footer – especially the 55HT – is becoming more and more popular as well. It offers more protection from wind, water and sun and because it’s bigger it’s more comfortable in the waves. We ensure that the tender is suitable for the purposes for which the owner wants to use it. For example, they must be able to be towed long distances (<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/18" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Amels (Company)">Amels</a> motor yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4284" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kamalaya54.86m (179'12&quot;)Amels2013">Kamalaya</a> already towed their <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1484" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wajer Yachts (Company)">Wajer</a> more than 50,000 nautical miles) or withstand significant temperature differences. For the eco explorer vessel <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4734" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Yersin76.6m (251'4&quot;)Piriou2015">Yersin</a>, we delivered a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1484" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wajer Yachts (Company)">Wajer</a> tender that had to deal with extreme temperatures. Nothing is too crazy for us. We always make it work.&nbsp;But the majority of owners do not necessarily go further afield more now than they have in the past. It's more about comfort. Of course, the more stable, the better when it comes to comfort. The bigger the tender, the more significant the reduction in slamming and bumpy rides. Moreover, on a bigger tender, you can also bring larger groups or even provide one or two more sleeping places for the crew. This points to another trend of owners spending time on bigger yachts in different ways. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/197785/image/large-7e16a68cbe9db3f24aa3070e0afa365f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/197785">How will the tender market adapt to appeal to increasingly eco-conscious owners?&nbsp;Sustainability is becoming increasingly important for our customers and is also a hot topic for us as yacht builder. We see more and more of our customers asking for sustainable solutions. The car business is already way further in this development process, so it's an exciting challenge for us as yacht builders to develop alternative solutions and make this work for our industry to meet the customer's requirements and stay future-proof.At <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1484" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wajer Yachts (Company)">Wajer</a>, we have an in-house innovation team, including people from the Technical University Delft who are dedicated to developing sustainable solutions. We innovate our yachts continuously to make them more sustainable. In the long term, we are thinking of alternatives to diesel. In the short term, you can already see progress in technology like the foil assist, which realises a fuel reduction of up to 20%.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/197784/image/large-b26852738bde4e3af3214eb64b9d4b58.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/197784">Explain the foil assist system on the new&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1484" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wajer Yachts (Company)">Wajer</a>&nbsp;38.Besides the fuel reduction, it makes riding on the waves more comfortable. The brand-new adaption of foil technology ensures a totally different sailing experience, meaning enhanced comfort, less slamming and better overall performance. The foil aid is placed amidships on the hull and lifts the boat, greatly improving sailing comfort and reducing fuel consumption while still reaching top speed. Preliminary technical research also has shown that the foil assist reduces fuel consumption by 10-20%, while maximum speed increases by 3-6% at equal power. This new foil assist on the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1484" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wajer Yachts (Company)">Wajer</a> 38 and 38 S is developed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/460" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Oossanen Naval Architects (Company)">Van Oossanen Naval Architects</a>. The Wajer 77 includes a number of new innovations, such as deck cooling technology, a hybrid fender system and adaptable deck layout, allowing owners to customise their vessel to their bespoke needs.
