Carbon neutral yachting in Antarctica

Yacht Carbon Offset has secured carbon credits from a renewable power station in the Galapagos Islands. These are available now on a first come first served basis for allocation to yachts that wish to select this project for their offset programme. Interested clients are invited to contact the company for a no-obligation quotation. The small project consists of three wind turbines, with a combined generating capacity of 2.4MW, on the island of San Cristóbal in the Galapagos Islands. The units displace the use of diesel-fuelled generation units, and in the first year of operation (2007-08) they provided 31% of the island’s electricity supply. The first 3km of power lines has been placed underground to minimise the hazard to the endangered indigenous Galapagos Petrel, and other bird species. The Dubois Cup will take place this year on June 4th, 5th and 6th and is once again hosted by and organized in conjunction with the YCCS in Porto Cervo. This exciting regatta brings together many Dubois-designed yachts, owners, crew, industry associates and media alike. The event immediately precedes the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta with one racing rest-day in-between. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/134306/image/large-b59b2eb0d345b91f4caf4e9f47373b67.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/134306">As in previous years, there will be two days of racing and the evening events will include the owners and guests‘ dinner and a prize-giving party following the close of racing on the 6th. There are currently eight yachts confirmed for participation. Currently, the survival rate if a child contracts the cancer is only 40%. To put this statistic into perspective, in 20 years with steady funding and increased publicity, the survival rate of children who contract Leukemia has increased from 10% to 90%. Ed Dubois is committed to increasing the survival rate of children who develop Neuroblastoma by funding specific research programs, peer-reviewed by specialists in this field. Additionally, Dubois are proud to announce, in partnership with Yacht Carbon Offset, they will be balancing the estimated carbon footprint of this year’s Dubois Cup, including an allowance for participants’ air travel to Sardinia. Dubois believes that the Dubois Cup 2011 is the first Superyacht regatta to neutralize its carbon footprint in this way. This magnificent vessel, built by Royal Huisman in The Netherlands, and designed by Redman Whiteley Dixon, catches the eye with her powerful contemporary lines and integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. He optimized <a href="#managed-by-application" data-legacy="true" data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/796">Twizzle'</a>s beam and added some 120 tons of internal ballast to improve stiffness and stability beneath 1,780 m2 of sail, set on a ketch rig. The forward salon doubles as a theatre lounge and an informal dining room. Two double guest cabins consisting of mirror-image layouts and one twin cabin are situated in direct vicinity of the captain’s quarters. Passing through an private hallway, one is eased into a sunken aft deck cockpit. The fully customized two tier platform can be hydraulically positioned at various heights, depending on the sea condition. What makes the aft platform unique, is that there is not a hinge, cable or cylinder in sight.
