They spent a lot of time with their captain in the Mediterranean, looking for inspiration,” Angèle Navarro, Project Manager at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/681" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Marine (Company)">Monaco Marine</a>, told SuperYacht Times. “The final decision was a pearlescent colour reinforced by touches of brown metallic and black.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263962/image/large-dba6357569d0affc84e0384d1ce384db.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263962">“A real ‘pearl of the summer’ was the desired objective,” the captain of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4985" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Madame Kate62.4m (204'9&quot;)Amels2015">Madame Kate</a> confirmed. “The owners were closely involved in the project and they wanted a yacht that was different from all the others in the marina. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4985" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Madame Kate62.4m (204'9&quot;)Amels2015">Madame Kate</a> is also the second Amels 199', a combination of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/88" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Laura Sessa (Company)">Laura Sessa</a>'s award-winning interior design, the modern <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tim Heywood Design Ltd. (Company)">Tim Heywood</a> exterior design and the highest craftsmanship of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/18" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Amels (Company)">Amels</a> shipyard. Her unique pearlescent white paintwork completes the package, to create a holistic masterpiece”Creating the paint was a challenge and “a real innovation for the yachting industry,” Angèle Navarro explained. “The colour is a white pearlescent with fine flakes with light reflected in green, pink tones. She has a specific yet very subtle colour in direct sunlight that makes her remarkably unique.” The colour also held sentimental value for her owners, as “the pearlescent colour is also a nod to their dog Kate, who wore a pearl on her collar.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263964/image/large-b6a372059c51e4469171fd28a5fe238e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263964">But after eight years of wearing this coat of paint, it’s time for a wardrobe change and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4985" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Madame Kate62.4m (204'9&quot;)Amels2015">Madame Kate</a> is set to leave <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/681" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Marine (Company)">Monaco Marine</a>, where she’s undertaking her refit, with another groundbreaking colour scheme. “Her owners now want something stronger and more impactful,” Angèle Navarro explained. “They want to keep the subtlety of this pearlescent finish but with more brightness and glossy effect, something that stands out even more from the other <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/18" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Amels (Company)">Amels</a> Limited Edition 199 yachts.”Paint manufacturer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1546" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Alexseal Yacht Coatings (Company)">AlexSeal</a> brought in a number of samples which were ultimately performed by Floriakis and after long deliberation, the owners decided on an opposite pearlescent, saturated with flakes with a grey effect. “It is a unique product that’s been developed especially for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4985" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Madame Kate62.4m (204'9&quot;)Amels2015">Madame Kate</a>. The overall colour scheme with brown metallic and black touches will remain the same, though,” Angèle Navarro noted. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263967/image/large-e5531bb71a56fcb18995ca885c0011a9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263967">“Technically, metallic and pearlescent are very difficult colours for application due to the flakes that they contain. Flakes are complicated to apply because they need to be oriented all in the same direction to avoid any shadow effects,” Angèle Navarro added. “We made a risky gamble by doing a very large area of application at one time to reduce cutlines. It made for difficult, hard work. But it was successful.”’After witnessing the process, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4985" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Madame Kate62.4m (204'9&quot;)Amels2015">Madame Kate</a>’s captain described the paint process as “complex and very expensive”. He continued, “In pearlescent paint you have very fine mica – a transparent gloss that you can see through to the under layers. This makes it much more complex to apply than metallic paints because you first have to spray a whole system before you can start.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263977/image/large-cb347db395a31efdbdf43e3501c9bee0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263977">“On top of that, you start with the pearl effect. You have 12 coats in the total paint system, which is exceptional . If the painters make one mistake in the pearl, like a runner or dust inclusion, they'll have to redo the entire job. That's why this challenging paint system is so exclusive with this very lavish and turns heads custom finish.”Angèle Navarro confirmed how treacherous the work can be, “Painting a yacht is a handmade process based on a team of painters fully skilled and experienced to achieve a perfect application where any bad movement, air failure or inattention moment can destroy a perfect complete job. All details are taken into consideration. It was the first time that they applied this unique reference to pearlescent, it was really a tricky challenge for the whole team.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263984/image/large-1e0ac657604c12ec8e1b73bbe06dcb6a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263984">The paintwork took the limelight of this six-month refit, yet <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4985" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Madame Kate62.4m (204'9&quot;)Amels2015">Madame Kate</a> did also undergo a 10-year Class Survey for both her shaft lines, as well as standard shipyard works that included antifouling and hydraulics works.&nbsp;“She was in good condition at arrival and her crew has obviously taken care of her with patience, experience and hard work. It’s impressive to see a yacht kept in such great condition,” Angèle Navarro said. And It was this crew that supported this paint project. “It was a team effort based on the confidence of an implicated crew, skilled workers and motivated staff to guarantee a good and beautiful result at the end that will make owner and crew happy, that was our goal on the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4985" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Madame Kate62.4m (204'9&quot;)Amels2015">Madame Kate</a> project. The massive 2,200 GT superyacht features an exterior design by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuccon International Project (Company)">Zuccon International Project</a> and an interior by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/88" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Laura Sessa (Company)">Laura Sessa</a>. Launched at the start of 2015, the 60 metre Amels superyacht Madame Kate has been turning heads around the Mediterranean this past summer season. Just over two years later the yard delivered Madame Kate, ready for a summer season of cruising in the Mediterranean. Her summer season came to a spectacular end at the Monaco Yacht Show in September where she stood out amongst a crowd of other new yachts, and even attracted a special visit from His Serene Highness Prince Albert II himself.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/157454/image/large-dc9f79fb1061f44d6cd249719b9df9d7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/157454" class="legacy">Madame Kate’s elegant yet cutting exterior is dressed in a unique non-metallic pearlescent white paint finish. Her timeless design and cleverly laid-out deck spaces is only one side to this capable and sea worthy vessel. Surfaces are finished in a sparkling high gloss with the addition of polished elements as well.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/157464/image/large-bc4d6c2b1ef4823423a2a8acaaf0af74.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/157464" class="legacy">Madame Kate&nbsp;accommodates 12 guests in absolute luxury. Closer look at 60m Amels superyacht Madame Kate

The 60-metre Amels superyacht Madame Kate will make her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. Built for an experienced owner, the Tim Heywood-designed yacht will certainly stand out, with her unique pearl effect paintwork, and her elaborate lighting above and below the waterline.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/154972/image/large-b659014ea756a5b0dc3ec88302f59b32.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/154972" class="legacy">Owner Representative Benoit Faure from Yachting Concept commented: “The Owner is absolutely delighted with Madame Kate. Of course, the Tim Heywood design is very eye-catching and generates a lot of attention. But the Owner has also remarked on the level of quality on board, which is exactly the giant leap up that he wanted. For example, noise and vibrations are very low. In fact, it’s better described as an absence of noise and vibrations.”Madame Kate's owner made a long list of modifications to the layout and design of the 60-metre Amels 199 concept, including tailoring outside areas and relocating the galley from the lower deck to the main deck, as well as a custom lighting system.According to Faure, the Owner wanted the boat to be in the spotlight, with the ability to change colours. “The lighting in general was part of the quest for the boat. And on top of that, the paint finish of the boat became even more important. When you illuminate your boat at night, if it has a special colour, it’s even more beautiful.”

Amels to bring Madame Kate to Monaco Yacht Show
