Southern Wind’s 35m Sørvind heads to the Med on her maiden voyage

Sørvind, the 34.59-metre sailing yacht by Southern Wind, has embarked on her maiden voyage where the Mediterranean winds will fill her sails.

Sørvind is fresh out of the yard as she was launched almost 50 days ago and has been busy undertaking tests and sea trials ever since. I think we really hit a nice size of boat and a great style. Everything is uncluttered, smooth and clean.”SØRVIND yacht deck Nauta Design handled the styling of Sørvind inside and out, while it was Farr Yacht Design who penned her naval architecture. The design teams work in close collaboration with the owner to ensure that his specific taste and requirements were met. Sørvind has a full carbon hull, deck and bulkheads. And to reduce weight Southern Wind fitted synthetic teak decking and titanium stanchions, pulpits, cleats and fairleads. As a result, Sørvind is just 69,500 kg and can sail in lighter wind conditions with less need of engine power. She has a VIP cabin aft of the owner’s cabin and two double en-suite guest cabins amidships. Her main social space, the main saloon, is spacious enough to accommodate all onboard guests and thanks to a large skylight the space is flooded with natural light. SØRVIND yacht deck Nauta Design worked closely with the Dutch interior design firm Studio Hermanides to shape her interior spaces, and founder Jeroen Machielsen commented: “Because of the owner's Nordic background we looked at the colours of Nature from the Nordic landscape: long dark nights combined with bright white snow, a style that the owner has dubbed ‘Nordic Cool’. We really wanted a good contrast between the different colours of veneer, to get a more homey look and feel. The dark veneer doesn't make it dark because we combined it with a lot of very light colours and materials to get a fresh look”.SØRVIND yacht sailing Sørvind will make her global debut at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show
