40m Benetti Oryx sold for €9.9m with cryptocurrency

Benetti’s 40.2-metre motor yacht Oryx has been sold with Simon Goldsworthy and Hans Van Doornmalen of Edmiston representing the selling. Standing in for the buyer during these negotiations was Juan Andrade from SuperYachtMonaco. Oryx yacht at anchorOryx was listed with a last known asking price of €9,900,000, and her new owner opted to purchase her with cryptocurrency. SuperYachtMonaco has only just opened avenues for these forms of payments as they signed an agreement with BitPay – the world’s largest provider of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payment services – just six days ago.

“The ability to accept cryptocurrency enables SuperYachtsMonaco to attract new customers and sales by tapping the massive crypto marketplace.” said Juan Andrade. “BitPay manages the entire process and makes it easy to receive crypto from the customer and adapt their approach to each client’s personal situation.”Oryx yacht saloonReadSuperyacht brokerage & bitcoin: Is the trend here to stay?

Bill Zielke, CMO at BitPay, added that, “SuperYachtsMonaco realises the potential for crypto to transform the superyacht industry as BitPay has seen a significant increase in volumes related to the purchase of luxury goods. Our goal at BitPay is to make accepting payments faster, more secure, and less expensive on a global scale since crypto is the future of payments.”Oryx yacht saloonThis is a great kick-off for SuperYachtMonaco as the first transaction was for a stunning motor yacht designed by the triple threat of Benetti, Stefano Righini Design and Zuretti Interior Design. Stefano Righini and Benetti handled her exterior design and naval architecture respectively. Together they drew her with a cascading tri-decked configuration to aft, which benefit from open sides for undisturbed views.

Zuretti Interior Design handled Oryx’s interior spaces and had 346 GT to play with. The design team fitted her with five staterooms to provide accommodation for up to 10 guests, opting for a light colour palette with subtle walnut fixtures, throughout. Oryx’s main saloon is the perfect spot for socialising, as the space is wrapped with floor-to-ceiling windows and loaded with plush seating. While the yachting sector may not be fanatical about crypto, it has certainly taken it into its stride and more and more brokerage firms are now accepting this form of payments. SuperYachtsMonaco is the most recent from a growing line of brokers joining the trend, and closely follows Ocean Independence who embraced cryptocurrency last month.

Peter Hürzeler, Managing Partner at Ocean Independence commented at the time that “Cryptocurrencies have become an integral part of today's world and will become increasingly important. Therefore, it stands to reason that our clients are now able to pay for their yacht purchase and yacht charter with this type of currency.”
