The Southampton-based studio, Dixon Yacht Design, has developed a ‘game-changing’ 70-metre yacht concept - Project NewDawn - that has been designed to offer effortless sailing performance with the interior comfort conventionally found on motor yachts.NewDawn 70 yacht exterior designPhoto: Matt DixonTo offer maximum sailing potential with minimal sailing effort, easy to operate Falcon Rigs have been chosen for the 1135GT Project NewDawn, with the twin rigs offering a suitable sail area to displacement ratio. Built with an aluminium alloy superstructure, a high tensile steel hull and a fixed keel with a partially ballasted centreboard, Project NewDawn would be capable of reaching a maximum speed of 19 knots. For instance, the 70-metre design features a large, glazed sun deck saloon on the main deck that faces aft to the swimming pool. Additionally, the yacht is equipped with an embarkation tender platform that provides direct access to the main deck lobby. The addition of heat recovery systems would further contribute to the vessel’s high efficiency.NewDawn 70 yacht exterior designPhoto: Matt DixonIn addition, her side windows have been equipped with insulating glass that shields the interior from solar damage, while the roof structure can accommodate solar cells that have been integrated into the glass panels, adding to her eco-credentials.
