In the early years, we focused on building 40 to 58-foot trawler boats, with our primary market centred on Europe, where we have successfully sold between 50 and 70 vessels.In my view, Europe remains the benchmark for yacht design and innovation, setting trends and standards across the industry. Inspired by this, we aimed to introduce a similar level of quality and style to our domestic market. In 2011, following comprehensive market research, we shifted our strategy to focus on larger yachts and began catering predominantly to Chinese clients.&nbsp;This led to the introduction of the Flybridge Series, which includes models measuring up to 30-metres. Over the past 13 years, we have seen consistent growth in this segment. Clients typically prefer to use their yachts as social venues - hosting parties, entertaining friends, or conducting business meetings onboard. As a result, there is less emphasis on overnight accommodation and more focus on creating spacious, sociable interiors.Among the younger generation, particularly those in their twenties and thirties from wealthy backgrounds, there has been a noticeable rise in enthusiasm for sailing and spending time at sea. Many are seeking a more hands-on approach to yacht ownership, commissioning yachts they have personally helped design, without a long-established background in superyacht construction and by working closely with the shipyards. Their aim is often to create a unique, bespoke yacht that is not available on the wider market.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/358527/image/large-758038c171361f5b6952c289416cd995.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/358527">By contrast, only a small proportion of around one and five percent of the older generation purchase yachts purely out of a passion for life on the water, with the majority viewing yacht ownership primarily as a business or entertainment asset.In response to this shift in usage, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/8170" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegro Yacht (Company)">Allegro Yacht</a> adapted its designs by converting traditional staterooms into karaoke rooms and placing greater emphasis on creating social spaces onboard. Clients increasingly seek a high level of customisation, with each yacht featuring a unique interior conceived to reflect the owner’s personal style. This bespoke nature of the work can present challenges, particularly in aligning designs with varying tastes, but remains a central focus of the company’s offering.&nbsp;Looking ahead, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/8170" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Allegro Yacht (Company)">Allegro Yacht</a> plans to expand into the growing charter market across the wider Asia region. Buyers there, often from royal families or high-net-worth individuals, tend to favour established European brands. Bader Hood Al Mahmood, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs, outlined that the guide provides clear instructions on obtaining navigation permits, including detailed pre-arrival, entry, and departure requirements.Among the key stipulations, visiting yachts must operate an Automatic Identification System (AIS), hold valid third-party insurance, and submit documentation including the yacht’s registration, a navigation or safety certificate, and lists of passengers and crew. Initial approvals for entry can be expected within 24 hours of application submission.Yachts approaching Bahraini waters are required to notify the Maritime Control Office via VHF Channel 74 or telephone, and proceed to one of five designated maritime inspection points, including Qatari Waters Cutoff and Fasht Al Jarrim. Following this, vessels must report to one of the listed entry ports – such as Al Dur Port or Waves Marina – to complete immigration and customs procedures.Notably, Bahrain has included leisure marinas among the official entry ports, streamlining arrival processes and underscoring the country's readiness to accommodate yacht tourism. While the over 40 metre segment continues to demonstrate healthy growth, the 30 to 40 metre category is experiencing a marked decline in new orders.After peaking at 375 new superyacht sales in 2021, the market recorded 195 new-builds in 2024. At the same time, deliveries have continued to rise, from 163 in 2021 to 228 in 2024 as shipyards work through a once-record backlog of orders. That backlog stood at 695 yachts at the start of 2024 but has since begun to decline for the first time in years.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/360142/image/large-0e57af53390af9de0374fcf22e4e9dda.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/360142">The clearest trend, however, is the divergence between market segments. New orders in the 30 to 40 metre range dropped by 20 percent between 2023 and 2024, while those in the 40 to 50 metre bracket rose by 28 percent. In total, segments above 40 metres recorded a 13 percent increase in new orders during the same period.“The market is moving towards a two-speed dynamic,” said Ralph Dazert during the session. “Buyers in the upper segments are continuing to invest, while the more accessible size ranges are seeing hesitation, likely due to broader economic uncertainties.”In the first quarter of 2025 alone, new sales of 30 to 40 metre yachts dropped dramatically from 35 units in Q1 2024 to just 15. Units above 40 metres also fell, from 36 to 26, hinting at a potential slowdown across the board, possibly influenced by tariff announcements and macroeconomic pressures.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/360141/image/large-9012db260b0ffe019d635576b6750ded.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/360141">Despite the shifting market conditions, Italy continues to dominate the superyacht construction sector. In 2024, Italian shipyards accounted for 120 new yacht sales above 30 metres, more than double the combined total of all other competing nations. As of 1 January 2025, the country’s shipyards held 371 projects in their order books, representing 53 percent of the global backlog.Notably, Italian projects are also growing in scale.
