The largest private sailing ketch in the world, the 86m Aquijo, is believed to have recently been delivered to her owners and is currently steaming towards the island of Mallorca, after having left the Netherlands last month. The yacht was jointly created by Dutch shipyards Oceanco and Vitters with each party having applied their respective fields of expertise.
Built under the project nameP85, the German studio Dölker + Voges is responsible for her interior design with an exterior by the design gurus at Tripp Design Naval Architecture. Inside, she accommodates up to 12 guests in total over four decks in a high volume superstructure which the brands state has been designed to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, with long, clear sight lines throughout.
A unique steering system has been developed by Vitters, and works by translating the hydrodynamic forces on the underwater rudder blades directly to the flybridge steering wheels, providing the helmsman with immediate feedback.
The yacht is reported to have made a stop in Guernsey for official purposes and is also where some of the yacht’s crew were taken on board.
