While the 5,000-6,000 nautical mile range at 10-12 knots is impressive when looked at independently, combine that with the fact that all SeaXplorer superyachts feature hybrid propulsion and the package is eye watering. A new industry initiative has been launched by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) that focuses on the impact the yachting industry has on the world’s forests. The initiative encourages clear sustainability goals and open dialogues for more responsible solutions. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263032/image/large-9840fc3a207fde264c781f549845604d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263032">“Yachts are an extreme luxury product, but the industry is also an important sector in the innovation of new and greener solutions for the shipbuilding industry in general,” Kristian Jørgensen, technical advisor at FSC Denmark, stated. “We often see innovation in the areas of engine technology, energy efficiency, synthetic fibres, and the direct impact of different materials on the marine environment. But the time has come to pay more attention to the timber that is used.”Timber is a staple resource for the industry, whether that’s teak decking, masts and booms, or interior outfitting – you’ll be hard-pressed to find a yacht that doesn’t make use of the material in some form. Everyone can do something immediately by using the existing products on offer.
