A craft of this type requires a design of the highest level, great technology and construction expertise, and the best designers: we have built a solid partnership to attain this ambitious goal.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/210115/image/large-528b7c956d9369c4e2853634a1066e82.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/210115">Full-foiling technology is regarded as the new frontier of sailing after its thrilling performance in the America’s Cup, but the lightweight <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4656" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Persico Marine (Company)">Persico</a> F70 is not only designed to be a regatta racer; liveable interiors and stylish exteriors also make it an attractive option as a daysailer with crew berths, toilet, shower and other amenities. Optionals include air conditioning, sun awnings and electric hybrid propulsion.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/210114/image/large-1af24f01f9b7562641ffff8e1f5fa054.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/210114">“We wanted to draw inspiration from the AC75s to create a yacht as stylish as it is high-tech,” says Daniele Mazzon, chief yacht designer at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4640" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pininfarina (Company)">Pininfarina Nautical</a>. “Indeed, the interiors are open space with a series of structural rings, creating a perspective illusion that emphasises the length and width of the boat and expresses a dual passion for daysailing and racing performance.”As a high-performance boat that flies over the surface of the water, an aerodynamics study was essential and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4640" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pininfarina (Company)">Pininfarina</a> has combined the hydrodynamic expertise of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2150" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Carkeek Design Partners (Company)">Carkeek</a> with aerodynamic data from its own wind tunnel.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/210111/image/large-13f1b5d211fcd5d27476b7f36226067a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/210111">Construction is of full pre-preg carbon fibre with a Nomex Kevlar honeycomb core. The reverse sheer and bow shape are also designed to reduce weight while offering built-in stiffness.With a custom rotating wing mast, the F70 is aimed at owner-drivers who want to sail with a small team of up four people. The foil control systems, originally developed for the America’s Cup and the IMOCA fleet, are be easy to handle and drive but offer excellent acceleration, response rate and safety. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/210112/image/large-1ad39fba132a56319ac7467fa30eae66.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/210112">“The F70 will be a boat without precedent,” says Shaun Carkeek, lead designer of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2150" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Carkeek Design Partners (Company)">Carkeek Design Partners</a>, a company at the vanguard of Grand Prix yacht racing developments. “The foils, derived from those on the IMOCA60, will be aided by elevators on the rudder blade, just like those on the AC75s. This way the boat can reach full flight mode with only 10 knots of wind, without resting on the downwind side of the hull. It is a really challenging class to win, and to then win the overall title is not easy. Looking back to August 1986, one can observe the humble beginnings of the Bucket Regattas, the very first of which was a hastily thrown-together affair in Nantucket, Massachusetts. The originary seeds of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/163" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="St. Barths Bucket Regatta - 2023">Bucket Regattas</a> were sown in a spirited discussion that took place at a high-society birthday celebration between several yacht owners concerning optimal yacht design and individual sailing prowess.With undisputed bragging rights to last an annum hailed as the grand prize, the following day seven sailing yachts raced on a make-shift 15 nautical mile course around Nantucket Sound. However, participants soon learned that camaraderie formed at sea between like-minded individuals was the greatest prize of all. After a nearby bucket was deemed the perfect commemoration, the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/163" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="St. Barths Bucket Regatta - 2023">Bucket Regatta</a> was born, and the spirit of camaraderie remains the beating heart of the regatta.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/29460/image/large-0ec115066e113aada7f13d410a0a338b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/29460">The course itself is demanding, spanning just over 23 nautical miles. “It is a challenging place to sail at times, especially when you go around the island on day one and three in the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/163" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="St. Barths Bucket Regatta - 2023">Bucket</a>. Particularly last year, when it was very windy,” said Captain Newton. “Out on the eastern side of the island you get big seas and it is pretty breezy.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/29482/image/large-bedbc7adaa16fcaec8401eb16f2b4713.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/29482">For casual sailing, Captain Newton recommended, “The group of islands off the north coast of the St Barths make it brilliant for sailing, as there are some pretty interesting routes.” Here, sailors can find a rugged sailing ground home to a wealth of secluded bays and uninhabited islands and islets. “It is a pretty spectacular place to sail,” Captain Newton continued, “You get a mix of the flat water on the Leeside and big waves out to the east.”St Barths is a charming and flirty Caribbean island with a reputation for its luxurious feel and glitz-studded, lively atmosphere. “St Barths is particularly busy during the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/163" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="St. Barths Bucket Regatta - 2023">Bucket</a>,” Captain Newton laughed. “It feels like the Caribbean French Riviera. The island is home to spectacular beaches and beach clubs, making it good fun.”

More important, it is the first time <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/66" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Red Dragon51.7m (169'7&quot;)Alloy Yachts2008">Red Dragon</a> has ever raced period, so the yacht’s owner is delighted. “The owner loves to drive, so he drove the whole time and did a great job,” said King.The 44-metre schooner <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5645" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Columbia43.03m (141'2&quot;)Eastern Shipbuilding Group2014">Columbia</a>, one of the most elegant yachts in the L'Esprit 2 fleet, recorded a 43.5 degree of heel on its winning sprint. “We were taking a lot of water over the deck but we were under control,” said guest crew Jakob Havrlant, who counts this as his first Bucket but says it won’t be his last. “Some of the sloops were catching us upwind, but we were a reaching machine on the other legs. In July 2022, SuperYacht Times had the chance to sit down with the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/55540" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Owners of the first SW108 Hybrid on the Southern Wind Smart Custom approach (2022-07-25 15:00:00 +0200)">enthusiastic and experienced owners of the very first hybrid Southern Wind 108</a>. Designed following &nbsp;the shipyard’s new approach to semi-custom yacht design, Smart Custom, the super sailing yacht has been carefully tailored to her owner’s specifications and now SuperYacht Times has been given the chance to view her interior design for the first time. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/234872/image/large-e89ebd3952c6785fd98452ff9a3f4b29.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/234872">Designed inside and out by the team at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. Not only does this custom designed piece of furniture ingeniously combine the two levels of the saloon, it also adds an organic and flowing form to the interior design that opens the space and draws the eye through the saloon. This organic, flowing form is echoed throughout the interior, with soft forms and rounded edges that lend the interiors a very natural look. Her three staterooms echo the aesthetic of the main saloon, and the staterooms are unusually spacious for a yacht of her size, with high ceilings and walk-around beds in the master and double cabins. The master stateroom is situated in the bow of the yacht, and features a large bathroom, lounge area and a large closet. The owner’s have also opted for a study room to be situated opposite the lower level of the saloon, which will act as a private space, ideal for working or retreating during long passages. Versatility was a major consideration when the yacht was in the design phases, and many of the spaces can be transformed for different purposes and during different types of sailing. For example, the study room can also be used as a single cabin, or as a double when the deck is stored, meaning that more guests can be accommodated when the owners have friends and family onboard.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/255294/image/large-e0603da69b8088342bd356b4080145db.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/255294">Christophe Harvey, Project Manager at Southern Wind added, “On the request of the owners and with the close supervision of &nbsp;Nauta Yachts, the SW108/01 features a unique lighting design conceived by PSLab. Barbara Cenni and Matteo Cacciari of PSlab have proposed a beautiful concept that will both create a bright and lively ambiance during the day and a very warm and cosy atmosphere when the evening comes. Out of the traditional lighting solutions in boat building, they have proposed design and technical solutions where the light is sometimes brushing a surface, or sometimes focused on an outstanding detail of the interior furniture. During the interview last July, they explained that creating that sense of bright spaciousness was a vital part of the interior design process and one that they thoroughly enjoyed. “The process was so much more than just choosing the fabrics, colours and some features. France-based builder <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/416" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ocea (Company)">OCEA</a> has announced that the fourth hull in the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/416" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ocea (Company)">OCEA</a> Commuter 108 yacht series is nearing completion.
