Conversions from rod and wire to PBO rigging, stepping, commissioning, tuning and producing custom running rigging from the latest modern materials are day to day activities at HYS Rigging.

HYS Rigging has been actively involved in the development of advanced composite cable rigging systems for over 10 years and is currently working with top rigging manufacturers, OYS, Future Fibres and Powerlite to supply PBO cables for standing rigging. The emphasis in PBO is on increasing sailing performance by significant weight reduction aloft.

Notable successes for PBO change-overs from rod include the successful re-rig of the Swan 80 Maligaya made in conjunction with OYS and reducing weight aloft substantially.

HYS Rigging still offer a complete OYS Nitronic rod rigging service for all sizes of rod, with an on-site heading press up to -60.

Custom running rigging
HYS Rigging has also established themselves as prime suppliers of Liros specialist ropes for running rigging applications. The newly developed Xtreme range enables much greater control through their lowstretch, low weight characteristics, Hugo Boss the Open60’ campaigned by Alex Thomson and Red, the well known TP52, are both equipped with the latest solutions from the Xtreme range.

These special ropes in Dyneema SK78, Vectran, Kevlar and PBO are individually tailored in the HYS workshops to achieve optimum performance for high load or high friction areas in every application. They can even be colour dyed or produced in custom cover colours. The emphasis is always on the right rope solution for the job, providing performance with the lightest and strongest materials in high loaded applications.

The same goes for traditional and classic yacht rigging, whether providing replacement equipment or new rigging for recent restorations. HYS Rigging’s highly skilled staff are able to reproduce traditional rope work in keeping with the era of the sailing yacht that they are working with.

Dennis Fisher stated “Rigging used to be a ‘black art’ - now it is science! These new products rely upon our staff becoming highly trained in all rigging disciplines. Aside from our manufacturers and suppliers such as OYS, Reckmann and Liros, with whom we work very closely, I am not aware of other rigging companies who can equal the level of experience that we at HYS enjoy”.

Sparcare
Whilst the HYS Sparcare mobile mast repair service has been established for over 12 years, they have recently developed their workshops for the supply of new replacement aluminium masts, and custom fabrications. With their many years of experience and the smaller number of aluminium mast makers around today, HYS Sparcare are able to repair, or replace sections of most aluminium masts or booms using the traditional processes.

HYS Sparcare staff are alll factory trained to take care of the supply, installation and servicing of hydraulic cylinders for the leading suppliers – Navtec and Sailtec, and look after many others including Holmatro and Seaway. They also cover the servicing and stock parts for Andersen and Lewmar winches.
