Over the course of the last 30 years, Aegean Yacht, one of the leading builders in Turkey, has evolved intelligently to consistently produce high quality and seaworthy yachts that are regularly showcased in the media. Instantly recognisable for its elegant vessels, Aegean Yacht has now built more than 40 motor yachts and motor sailors, each fully customized to the owner’s requirements. This month the company presented it’s latest flagship, the 57-meter (173-feet) schooner Montigne, the heir to the famous 50-meter (164-feet) Galileo.
The classical-style Montigne, built to RINA and MCA, is not only the largest vessel Aegean Yacht has built to date but is also the biggest yacht of her class so far built in Turkey; and with her elegant lines and luxurious interior, she has become one of the most prestigious private sailing yachts available for charter in the world.
Sinan Ozer, Aegean Yacht’s owner and CEO, chose to work with an international team of project managers and supervisors for the duration of this project, it was a productive 2 year period during which the Shipyard and Owner’s Team exchanged invaluable experience in collaborating to produce an aesthetically beautiful, extremely comfortable, functional and seaworthy super sail yacht.
Aegean Yacht, has become the first shipyard in the region to show how it’s high level of professionalism, efficiency, attention to detail and diligence has resulted in building this 57m MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency) compliant vessel, and of course, Montigne proudly follows in the traditional of Aegean Yacht’s other sailing yachts, created in a superb harmony of classic charm and contemporary technologies.
Every exterior area of Montigne has been designed and outfitted to allow her Guests maximum comfort when aboard. The stunning aft deck offers 110 m² of space for al fresco dining and lounging, the elegant sundeck offers uncluttered views and has a large Jacuzzi and the spacious foredeck holds an array of water toys.
The aft deck dining table seats twelve guests and includes a turntable. This table, together with the rest of the furniture on board has been designed, detailed and produced by the full-service shipyard, Aegean Yacht.
Comfortable chairs surround the table and there is also a ‘wet-feet’ service bar and a fully equipped original Teppanyaki grill. The aft deck will no doubt become a favorite area for Guests, added to which 40 m² of the deck space is covered with soft cushions.
The aft deck is covered by a hard Bimini top, which incorporates all of the aft deck lighting, speakers and an innovative water-mist air-cooling system.
Another favorite place for Guests will be the Sundeck, which offers 135 m² of high quality teak decking and is easily reached by some stairs from the main deck. The modern mast, boom and rigging have allowed the builders to create an enormous space for Guests to sunbathe and party by day or night. Montigne will be easily recognized from a distance, there is a dramatic looking golden Dragon placed on the bow and two brightly colored Dragons on the transom. These three celestial Dragons symbolize the power of the yacht and at the same time protect her from evil spirits.
It is in salon on main deck where the Owner wished to create an impressive impact. There lies a beautifully illuminated piece of artwork of an oriental scene that continues the story of the Dragons. Right in front of the entrance there is a massive sculpture of the legendary Dragon Boat, a real masterpiece of mythological art completed from a single piece of wood and decorated with fanciful carving. In the 80 m² salon there is a large rectangular dining table for twelve Guests, a grand piano, and two separate comfortable sitting areas.
Montigne can accommodate 12 guests in six spaciously planned staterooms, all furnished in cherry and all equipped with en-suite bathrooms, exquisitely finished in inlaid marble.
Each of the guests’ staterooms is located below deck. There is a master suite of 60 m² at the aft, and a VIP cabin of practically the same size forward. Also forward one can find an originally shaped double guest stateroom of 35 m², and two more double and two triple cabins of 20 m² each. The full beam master suite has a separate section equipped with special SPA facilities. There is an elegant sitting area and a study, and a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a bath and marble shower.
Montigne is powered by twin 760hp MAN engines, offers a range of 1800 nautical miles and 12 knots top speed.
The three aluminium masts carry a sail area (UK SAILS) of 800 m². All sails apart from the mizzen are roller furling. Additionally, two lightweight Fisherman sails are supplied with a total area of 250 m².
