Ocean Eco 90 H2: Alva Yachts’ first 28m “fuelless” catamaran with Oceanwings

The German electric luxury yacht builder Alva Yachts has added a new 27.5-metre to its fleet: the Ocean Eco 90 H2, which is in-build and scheduled for delivery next year. Ocean Eco 90 H2 exterior design Based on the same platform as the Ocean Eco 90 – two of which are currently in build –, the latest iteration incorporates Ayro’s Oceanwings© wind propulsion system and an optional hydrogen fuel cell.

Much like her sister ships, Ocean Eco 90 H2 is full-electric and powered by twin performance electric motors, coupled with a 500+ kilowatt battery pack powered by 200 square-metres of solar panels. The Ocean Eco 90 H2 is also equipped with a fuel cell supplied by EODev and integrated by SECO Marine.

The project was commissioned by adventure-seeking clients that were attracted by the design language of Alva Yachts. The first Ocean Eco 90 H2 will be used both privately and commercially as the owners want to “ highlight to the public that we can sail safely, sustainably, with an environmentally fully clean system and with a high level of comfort, converting a dream into reality”.

“We are very happy to have found such a confident and innovative client that pushes us to explore new technologies,” Holger Henn, CEO of Alva Yachts, said. “This project would not be possible without our classification partner DNV which has established new ground rules, especially for us because this has never been done before. In addition to DNV, our engineering partner iYacht has surpassed our expectations when faced with such advanced engineering challenges.”Ocean Eco 90 H2 exterior design Read: Second 28m ALVA Ocean Eco 90 Open multihull yacht sold

“What is special about this project is certainly the leap that we are making in technology. A superyacht that can operate without fossil fuel is something we could only dream of. But with the help of strong partners and a lot of effort from the Alva team, we want to show what is possible in boat building today,” Henn concluded.
