Damen unveils 55m model in SeaXplorer line up

The Dutch ship specialists Amels and Damen announced the latest yacht in its SeaXplorer range today: the 55.70-metre SeaXplorer. The SeaXplorer range was first unveiled during the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show and since then two units have been sold with the range continuing to expand in size and capabilities.

On board the latest SeaXplorer, the 55.70-metre vessel accommodates up to 12 guests across six staterooms. A large crew of 17, including expedition staff, pilots and guides, is also accommodated for on board.

The layout is designed to offer unique spaces for enjoying panoramic views and spectacular encounters with wildlife, including an observation lounge, outdoor bow point observation deck, indoor and outdoor sky lounge, and a crow’s vest above the wheelhouse.

The high-volume yacht has a gross tonnage of 1,090, and offers real expedition capability, including 30 days of luxury autonomy off-the-beaten-track and IMO Polar Code compliance for visiting Arctic and Antarctic waters.

Commercial Director Rose Damen: said, “With a SeaXplorer 75 and a SeaXplorer 65 from our range already sold and now under construction, this new design benefits from our dedicated SeaXplorer team’s experience and the input from our clients and partners.”

The SeaXplorer also comes with a certified helideck for helicopters with a take-off weight up to 4,000 kg / D-value of 13. Her 12-metre slipway can also store a multiday expedition boat to take the journey further up river or close to icebergs. With the slipway, the owner can take a very large tender on his expedition without needing to tow it. In addition, since boarding and disembarking take place when the boat is in the slipway, they are safe for all passengers, even when the wind and waves are high.

The aft Expedition Centre is adaptable based on the owner’s interests: for example, if the owner is interested in diving, it can be set-up as a dive centre, with submersible, dive support tender, decompression chamber and wetsuit and dive gear store.

Product Director Mark Vermeulen said: “The SeaXplorer 55 is a luxury yacht with real go-anywhere, do-anything expedition pedigree. It has the seakeeping performance and Ice Class capability, but we also offer lots of options for our clients – from full fairing and custom interiors to tailor-made configurations for their expedition equipment.”
