How the interior lighting was chosen for the Amels Limited Edition superyacht Galene

After hitting the water in early spring 2020, the Amels 180 Limited Editions superyacht, Galene, was first seen gracing the waters of the Mediterranean before heading to the Caribbean for the winter. With sleek lines by Tim Heywood Design and a calm and light interior by Laura Sessa, Galene has a detailed deck plan with key social spaces for up to 12 guests and 13 crew. Another impressive aspect of her design can be found in the choice of interior lighting. Notably, the builder’s and owner’s teams were given free rein in choosing the best supplier for this important job.Galene yacht saloonPhoto: Y. COGalene yacht diningPhoto: Y. COAfter several marine lighting suppliers were approached with the requirements, it was the Dutch company, Totallux, based near Amsterdam, that was found to have the necessary credentials, expertise and capability to meet the project’s needs. Totallux and its LED solutions have been industry leaders in developing, producing and supplying LED lighting for an increasing number of major yacht constructors and marine electrical installers since 2003. Totallux liaised with the electrical contractors Alewijnse Marine, the owner’s representatives, as well as with the yacht’s interior designer.Galene yacht stateroomPhoto: Y. COGalene yacht stateroomPhoto: Y.COIn order to enhance the understated art-deco style of the interior design, custom lighting panels, supplied by Totallux, were used on board Galene, as have been installed on several other yachts in the Limited Edition 180 series. Clever effects, such as lighting on the underside of the beds in each stateroom, give each space a unique illumination that complements the yacht’s neutral colour palette. In the largest stateroom, the full-beam master suite, guests can make use of a fold-down balcony, his-and-hers bathrooms and generous wardrobes – features which are all enriched by Totallux’s innovative lighting solutions. This upgrade, which could have been somewhat complicated, was made simple thanks to the Limited Edition 180 being a proven platform which offers the perfect balance between full and semi customisation.
