First introduced in 2018, the new expedition yacht brand Arksen has announced that construction on its flagship Arksen 85 Project Ocean is underway at Wight Shipyard in England. With its 18-month build time, the 26.2-metre eco-friendly pocket explorer is expected to be ready for sea trials in spring 2022. Photo: WaterlinePhoto: The Boundary
Designed from the ground up to be as efficient as possible with a minimum carbon footprint, the Arksen 85 is made to explore and discover our oceans responsibly and sustainably. A full hybrid propulsion system and energy management control by Praxis Automation Technology means the yacht is not only using cleaner energy, but distributes it smarter too. With a maximum range of 7,000 nm, no destination is out of reach for this capable explorer. Photo: Waterline
Humphreys Yacht Design is responsible for the project’s design and naval architecture and worked with Chartwell Marine who optimised the structural engineering, further improving the robustness and efficiency of the vessel. “Arksen’s dedication to researching and understanding our impact on the environment will be invaluable in helping to re-shape the development of leisure-vessel production in the motor yacht sector,” commented Tom Humphreys, Co-Director of Humphreys Yacht Design.Photo: The Boundary
The aluminium used in the construction process is supplied by Hydro from Norway and contains recycled material which can again be recycled at the end of the vessel’s life. The interior design by Design Unlimited makes use of several sustainable and recycled materials such as fabric created using plastic bottles. Photo: The Boundary
“To have the first Arksen 85 vessel in production is a big milestone in our journey and we look forward to having our first boat on the water in the near future,” commented Arksen Founder, Jasper Smith.
