Buoyed by the sunny weather and good business results at the Hong Kong International Boat Show (November 27-29), owners and brokers alike enjoyed an evening of drinks, canapes and trumpet jazz at the Asia-Pacific Boating display during the luxury yacht magazine's invitation-only event. The cocktail reception marked the social climax of the show.
In his remarks to the crowd, which filled the enormous reception area to capacity, Blu Inc Media Managing Director Olivier Burlot extolled the virtues of owning a yacht, saying that "Hong Kong is one of the best kept cruising secrets in the world - we have beautiful coastlines and over two hundred islands to explore, so let's go out and do it!" The crowd approved with plenty of laughter and applause - Burlot had clearly caught the prevailing good mood that swirled through the event.
Guests were entertained not only by the ebullient company and jazz - event co-sponsors Grey Goose supplied drinks and two very talented bartenders, who managed to show off some of their twirling tricks. It certainly encouraged party-goers to keep going! Asia-Pacific Boating Editor Ryan Swift closed off the evening with thanks to the guests, and a nod to the bright nature of the show. "This time last year, we were all staring into the darkness. It seems that with this show, the sun has come back into yachting, and I look forward to an even better 2010."
