“In the past few years, there has been a declining interest from the superyacht industry in the Asian market,” says Merijn de Waard, Founder & Director of SuperYacht Times. “With the market slowing down globally, the superyacht industry needs to look further again and there is still a tremendous opportunity in Asia with more than 950 billionaires, according to Forbes.”

Lantau Yacht Club, Hong KongWith many new marinas in Asia under development and a growing interest from tourism authorities aiming to attract yachts, there is an opportunity to convince more owners and captains to cruise in Asia.

The construction of superyachts is also on the rise in Asia and according to SYT iQ, there are currently more than 76 superyachts under construction in Asia. Some of the major builders in the Asia-Pacific region are Horizon Yachts, Ocean Alexander, Heysea, Silver Yachts, Cheoy Lee, Johnson Yachts and several others.

Asia can also benefit from the growing number of yachts that visit the Middle East and with all the developments in the Red Sea, as it will encourage only more yachts will come. If the Asian and Middle Eastern authorities and professionals work together it can be of great benefit to both regions.

"We are delighted to hear that SuperYacht Times, is going to host its first Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit in Hong Kong, the birthplace of Simpson Marine Group. With the 40 years anniversary celebrations on our agenda for next year, what better occasion to reaffirm Asia’s yachting centre, Hong Kong, on the global superyacht map and welcome industry experts for a series of discussions on the future developments and opportunities for superyachts in Asia-Pacific, the fastest growing market by region today. The Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit coincides also with expansion of our Simpson Superyachts division and appointment of James Clayton as Division Head, and therefore we are looking forward to becoming strategic partners with the Summit providing a decades-long Asian perspective on this industry segment”, says Ewa Stachurska, Marketing Director at Simpson Marine Group.

The Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit will be the place where key decision-makers from the different Asian regions and global superyacht industry professionals meet. Discussions will focus on the development of Asia as a superyacht cruising destination and how to get more Asian clients interested in the construction, purchase, and charter of yachts.

Nigel Beatty, Chairman, Asia Pacific Superyacht Association, commented, "APSA is very pleased to hear that SuperYacht Times is planning to organise the Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit that will help promote the region as a destination for superyachts and help to grow the market further.
