Barracuda's new 50 metre superyacht

Intent on bypassing short-term fashion and avoiding unnecessary excess, Barracuda's latest design for a 50 metre motor yacht embodies balance and restraint, with a number of practical layout innovations not seen on other yachts.

First unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show earlier this year, flat surfaces and gentle curves combine to create a sleek and confident and efficient hull and superstructure. A narrow beam and long waterline length offers fast and efficient performance contained within the 500 GRT rule.

Designed within the increasingly popular 50m size range, the design could be fairly described as attractive yet understated, with an almost ‘militaryesque’ feel about it. Similarly, the superstructure is a balanced and symmetrical design.

Entry is made via starboard side doors to a lobby which leads to the main saloon and dining area. By turning right a corridor leads to four luxurious, equal size guest rooms located unusually on the main deck. Here guests will delight in the simple, yet pleasant avoidance of having to continually climb up and down stairs to reach the main living areas.

Guest rooms will benefit from plenty of incoming natural light. A fact guaranteed in this case, via inclusion of two sets of large ‘seascape’ windows for each room; one set of which can be lowering down fully, thus providing full standing height balcony-style vistas for the lucky inhabitants inside.

Apart from the bridge room, the upper/bridge deck is entirely the owner’s space, with bedroom and office positioned amidships for best possible comfort and with a large private terrace aft. A private stairway leads up to a sheltered sun deck with Jacuzzi.

An almost full beam width stern door acts as a large swimming platform with boarding steps behind which a beach club/gymnasium benefits from almost 180° views out back. Acting as windows either side when closed, large see through hatches can be lowered fully by 90° avoiding the dark & gloomy ‘cave effect’ other beach clubs tend to suffer from. In the lowered position guests will be afforded amazing perspectives, this time much close to the water, with breeze coming in from the side to cool those working out hard in the gym!
