Written by Charl van Rooy

It is not often that we report on yachting activities taking place in Ukraine. This week however we can share the news about Black Sea Yachts’ largest launch to date, the explorer yacht known as BSY98.

Built for an experienced owner who was after a vessel that could safely carry him and his family over long ocean voyages, the BSY98 features a rugged and tough exterior to match its sea keeping capabilities. Fitted with advanced azimuting propulsion units, the yacht is capable of reaching a range of 5,000 nm at a speed of 10 knots. She is expected to reach a top speed of 14 knots. An anti heeling system including large ballasts which can be filled as needed will ensure ultimate stability on board.

Other live-aboard specifications include the use of an electric power supply system that is charged by the generators and can be utilised during periods at anchor or in port to create a near silent environment during overnight stays. Large waste storage has also been incorporated in to the design, allowing the yacht to safely discharge of any waste material when returning to port.

Inside, BSY98 offers accommodation for up to 12 guests, with each cabin fitted with its own en-suite facilities. Guest areas are spread out over four decks with a good use of glass on main and bridge decks to allow for increased visibility as well as natural light to enter the interior spaces. Special attention was paid to create a noiseless environment on the inside, with Black Sea Yachts incorporating basalt covers on the floating flooring and anti-vibration sandwich panels to achieve this next level of comfort.
