Builders have signed so many contracts that the majority have full order books through 2026. Brokerage firms, meanwhile, sold 77 percent more yachts in 2021 than in 2020, according to estimates by market trackers. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/245483/image/large-7b5a18586f0519c61845d7399164e6b4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/245483">This is all great news, of course. It reflects the soaring number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals and the increasing awareness of how superyachts allow escaping crowds for quality time with family and friends. However, it also presents problems. Buyers don’t necessarily want to wait five years for a yacht to start construction—or waiting seven to eight years to take delivery. Additionally, since brokerage inventory is lower, fewer buyers find what ticks all the boxes.There is a solution, however. A partially constructed, six-stateroom project from a renowned American superyacht builder is in Mississippi, seeking a buyer. She’s a 168-foot <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity</a> Tri-Deck superyacht, about 40 percent complete and hitting the auction block in November. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6884" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Boathouse Auctions (Company)">Boathouse Auctions</a>, a turnkey, online yacht-auction platform connecting prequalified buyers with motivated sellers, is selling her. Several factors, ranging from her pedigree to her cost to complete, make this a very attractive opportunity.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity</a>'s History and Lineage<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity Yachts</a> began in 1988 as the luxury-yacht division of a commercial and military shipyard. John Dane III and William S. “Billy” Smith, employees of that yard, recognised the opportunity to establish a high-quality U.S. yacht builder. Operations originated in the commercial and military company’s New Orleans facility, attracting American clientele. Dane, Smith, and Felix Sabates, a businessman and yacht enthusiast, acquired the yachting division in 2000, growing its international reputation.&nbsp;It continued growing, even with Hurricane Katrina severely damaging Trinity’s only location at the time, the New Orleans shipyard, in 2005. To maintain operations, the owners purchased a site in Gulfport, Mississippi that Dane previously oversaw. The New Orleans facility reopened a year later, with the Gulfport shipyard continuing to handle orders.The owner-management approach to superyachts kept sales steady. Employee head count blossomed, from 200 in 2000 to 1,000 eight years later. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity Yachts</a> was so successful, in fact, that upwards of 20 yachts were on its order books in early 2008. By 2009, it had become the largest U.S. superyacht builder, delivering up to eight yachts annually that averaged 164 feet. It won numerous awards for them, too.Unfortunately, when the global-financial crisis hit, superyacht buyers retreated rapidly from the market and cancelled construction contracts. In 2015 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity Yachts</a>’ owners sold the company to a large offshore operator. The new ownership soon decided that yachting wasn’t core to its operations, though. It shut down yacht building in 2017. In its 27 years of existence, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity</a> had delivered more than 50 yachts in aluminium and steel to 254 feet. Its pedigree remained intact, even after the business closure. Trinity deliveries retain strong value today on the brokerage market, since they’re associated with seaworthiness, speed, superior engineering, and exquisite interiors. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/208824/image/large-067f3ab77ae344a3715d0a65690a6874.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/208824"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/245484/image/large-302295fe913c92a4a218238a0ca4492f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/245484">Trinity Tri-Deck Amenity Advantages Despite the 2015 sale, Dane retained ownership of two projects that ceased construction during the recession. The most complete, hull T-056, is being auctioned by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6884" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Boathouse Auctions (Company)">Boathouse Auctions</a> with Michael Joyce, the central listing agent from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1184" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hargrave Custom Yachts (Company)">Hargrave Yacht Brokerage</a>. Kept in secure storage over the years, she’s undergone regular checks, with a thorough survey this past August. The stage of construction represents an ideal combination of saving significant time and still being able to fully personalise the yacht.&nbsp;For instance, the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity</a> Tri-Deck, complying with ABS classification, has a 95-percent complete aluminium hull and superstructure. Some modifications won’t detrimentally impact time to complete. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity</a> Design Team also engineered her for a top speed of 23 knots with a Bahamas-friendly draft of less than eight feet. Since the hull and superstructure account for just 40 percent of the yacht, enormous interior and alfresco customisation is possible. Traditionally, a project like the<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">&nbsp;Trinity</a> Tri-Deck is a six-stateroom superyacht, so she affords excellent spaces accordingly. The master suite can spread out across the full beam forward on the main deck, benefitting from some of the best views onboard. Four guest cabins can go below decks, with a combination of king berths and twins with Pullmans. The final stateroom, a VIP, can treat guests like royalty on the bridge deck.&nbsp;Regardless of where staterooms sit or how many the buyer ultimately chooses, an elevator connects all levels. This way, too, the owners and guests can access the main salon, bridge-deck salon (perfect for a bar and games table), and the sun deck comfortably.&nbsp;Crew areas are generous, too. Placing the galley on the main deck allows good workspace, plus direct service to the formal dining area and outdoor seating aft. The captain can have direct access as well, from the wheelhouse to a bridge-deck cabin. Two single crew cabins sharing a head and two bunk cabins with private heads easily flank the crew mess below decks. Finally, the engineer will appreciate having a private en suite cabin aft of the engine room. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/219000/image/large-695b1a297d7a189f5c7f7d455b60d520.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/219000">Competitive CostsThe <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity</a> Tri-Deck auction includes not just the partially completed structure, but also extensive parts and machinery. For example, the 16-cylinder <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1409" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MTU (Company)">MTU</a> diesel engines are under warranty that begins when the yacht is completed. ZF transmissions, Northern Lights generators, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5020" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Quantum Marine Stabilizers (Company)">Quantum</a> stabilizers, and other top-name equipment are also included. Note that the opening bid of $1.5 million is less than that of the cost of just the engines and transmissions.&nbsp;Note, too, that the surveyor’s well-organized, detailed report is part of the auction, as are project costs to date and the estimated cost to complete the yacht. &nbsp;The completion estimate of $25 million is based on bids from qualified international shipyards in the United States, Greece, and Turkey. Consider that the current price for new superyachts in this size range with similar fit and finish, engines, and equipment from respected builders is significantly higher.&nbsp;Understandably, buyers commonly express concern about how to ensure a yacht like this gets finished. The original <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/106" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Trinity Yachts, LLC (Company)">Trinity Yachts</a> designers and engineers will help complete the remaining drawings, since they want to see the project — and buyer — succeed. They’ll do this regardless of which shipyard the winning bidder selects, too. Additionally, they and John Dane can provide advice and suggestions for completion.The online auction begins on November 11. Bidding remains open through November 14. Designing a superyacht is most certainly an art, as well as a science. On the surface of it, the design process requires the skill of bringing together the owner’s demands, with the craftsmanship of the yacht builder in the best way possible. These marketing teams consist of more than 30 people on staff, and include an intelligence team dedicated to data research. I really don’t know of any other brokerage firm that has invested so much in these categories, and it has definitely helped us to differentiate ourselves with our clients and win more and more of our competitor’s business.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/35342/image/large-bdee32c15b4a067e6002354accf83f97.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/35342">The brokerage's acquisition in 2021 by industry titan <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1312" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MarineMax (Company)">MarineMax</a> has certainly given the company the financial firepower to make this transition more quickly, but there was always a focus on data analytics and marketing, even prior to the takeover. “Many brokerage houses have just one or two employees who provide their yachting data, but it's generally a slow and outdated manual process that is rarely capable of finding the right yachts first – something which is one of the most important roles expected of a broke by their clientele. At <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/526" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Northrop and Johnson (Company)">N&amp;J</a> however, we have our ‘Deep Data department’ that sources data from all over the world through various custom developed applications as well as significant human resources, making sure our brokers have the most accurate and acute information in the industry, as well as having it first.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/219126/image/large-206b550a22422538d353d3e1d1b64044.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/219126">“If you strip it down to its basic tenets, the world of yacht broking is an information and facilitation business,” says Ziriakus. “The value of data within the yachting industry can be pivotal to a company’s success.” This could not have been more evident than in recent years, when major market high, such as 2021 and early 2022, saw scares supply and very few superyachts of pedigree were hitting the market. N&amp;J’s investment in data has enabled them to ride the sector wave with massive success, including reporting recently that its brokers sold 36% more yachts on average per broker than its closest competitor in 2022, selling a yacht almost every 48 hours during 2022.When <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/526" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Northrop and Johnson (Company)">N&amp;J</a> isn't in the news for its extensive catalogue of sales, the brokerage house is stealing the limelight with partnership after partnership, and for Ziriakus this has also been one of the greatest growth assets for the company. “The strategic partnerships team has been working hard to build deep, multi-year partnerships with other brands that go far beyond simply sharing a logo or sponsoring events. There is an insatiable appetite for yachting in Poland which has gone relatively unnoticed – and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6641" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Patrick Marine (Company)">Patrick Marine</a>, the Warsaw-based yachting company has been reaping the rewards. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/257955/image/large-2b0fd28b614009661e789c70f5486031.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/257955">What started out as a small firm designing luxury projects in 2005, quickly morphed into a powerhouse of a firm that will soon expand with charter and brokerage operations in its new Monaco and London offices. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6641" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Patrick Marine (Company)">Patrick Marine</a> offers the full suite of services that includes the buying and selling of used and new yachts, as well as marine and charter bookings across the globe.&nbsp;“We have been working in the luxury sector for nearly two decades now,” Patrick Uznanski, CEO &amp; founder of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6641" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Patrick Marine (Company)">Patrick Marine</a>, told SuperYacht Times. “But we used to operate as the Global Company Group until 2015 when we decided to rebrand and ramp up our services.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/257934/image/large-751bcbc4bc6a180d5366ad85cb6b28d8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/257934"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6641" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Patrick Marine (Company)">Patrick Marine</a> has cornered the Polish market, securing exclusive dealership rights for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5648" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bluegame (Company)">Bluegame</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2793" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fairline Boats Ltd (Company)">Fairline</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5741" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Axopar (Company)">Axopar</a> and Pirelli | <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="TecnoRib (Company)">TecnoRib</a>.“Polish customers are absolutely becoming more knowledgeable and more experienced yacht people,” Uznanski said. “The fact that as a nation we’re a big producer of yachts has established strong international success, which has sparked local interest. Of course, compared with the likes of France and Italy it's a young market, but we’re still hitting impressive sales numbers even in the 30-metre segment.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/237325/image/large-54ac1c6eb94119271241d0199da7dd6b.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/237325">The first exclusive dealer rights signed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6641" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Patrick Marine (Company)">Patrick Marine</a> in 2009 was with a &nbsp;family-owned Austrian shipyard producing high-quality design day boats. While the most recent was <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/374" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanlorenzo (Company)">Sanlorenzo Yachts</a>, which builds yachts in the 24-73 metre range, is a true reflection of this blossoming market.&nbsp;“We don’t only cater to the Polish market, though,” Uznanski explained. “We have clients all over the world whom we offer both brokerage and charter services for &nbsp;– one of my most recent charter clients, as an example, is based in Dubai.”&nbsp;The charter department of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6641" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Patrick Marine (Company)">Patrick Marine</a> with its dedicated domain (<a href="http://patrickmarine.pl/charters/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">www.patrickmarinecharters.com</a>) achieved great success – roughly 40 weeks of charter per year with €70,000 net average charter price – the firm competes well with the average European brokerage house.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/257953/image/large-a07f72a3d62a33a0a9e786ae278d4888.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/257953">“We’re particularly proud of our charter team which we brought together just five years ago. Patrick Marine: How a boutique yacht company cornered the market and built a strong global presence

There is a deft art to creating bespoke one-of-a-kind tenders, especially as they come in such a variety of shapes and sizes. The demands placed on these smaller vessels are just as high as those of the motherships – in some instances, even more. Versatility is fed directly into their DNA and no builder knows this better than the Australia-based <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4218" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vikal International (Company)">Vikal International</a>.&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4218" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vikal International (Company)">Vikal International</a> was founded in 1982 and has delivered more than 75 fully custom tenders to world’s largest motor yachts. Topaz) pitched the project. The 11.25-metre Open Sports limousine tender elegantly skims across the water with grace and comfort, thanks to her ingeniously engineered hull and two punchy <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5350" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Volvo Penta (Company)">Volvo</a> D6 400 horsepower diesel engines.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4218" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vikal International (Company)">Vikal</a> furnished the custom Topaz Convertible with a cream, rounded settee that wraps a heavily varnished coffee table. Befit for a tender belonging to such an outstanding mothership, the Topaz Convertible is suave, sophisticated and a point of pride for owner and guests to embark from when perusing the treasures onland. Her crowning feature though is undoubtedly her hardtop convertible roof – a world’s first for a tender of this size – which allows for usage in any weather condition. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/256232/image/large-8988d9422027cffa438b371dd20a6e71.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/256232">19m Octopus Dive TenderAt 18.8-metres the custom-built Octopus Dive Tender is one of the largest power boats to complement a superyacht. With a penchant for speed and a requirement to reach some of the most remote and daring dive locations in the world, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4218" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vikal International (Company)">Vikal</a> had a challenge. A challenge that a ready-made solution could never cater to. The marketplace for ready-made solutions might be thriving, but it’s not perfect.Australia’s resident designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/98" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sam Sorgiovanni Designs P/L (Company)">Sam Sorgiovanni</a> oversaw her design – and most definitely delivered. The Octopus Dive Tender is refined, lavish and brimming with amenities expected on a yacht, not a tender. She can carry as many as 10 guests, who can kick back in utmost comfort in her plush saloon, and she has a generous aft deck for seamless access to the water. Thanks to twin <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1409" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MTU (Company)">MTU</a> engines, the Octopus Dive Tender can reach speeds in excess of 40 knots.&nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/256228/image/large-e97a5f6fe4b00aa7785de9dd3a193030.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/256228">10m Secret Limousine&nbsp;Many superyachts have a low tender transom garage, which is typically used to store a RIB or water toys. But the space can also be utilised for a more luxurious limousine tender – you just have to be clever. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4218" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vikal International (Company)">Vikal</a> had to keep the tender’s height under two metres, which makes an enclosed aft normally impossible. To counter this, an electronically operated hardtop was fitted so once out the garage the shell roof can be opened to welcome the owner and guests onboard.The 9.8-metre Secret Limousine tender is fitted with twin D4 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5350" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Volvo Penta (Company)">Volvo</a> diesel engines that deliver a top speed of 48 knots. She’s also been fitted with bright red leather for the large settees that replicate the colour scheme of the owner’s Ferrari. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/256231/image/large-cbb7586372777224a62bd10c29dbf6d1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/256231">12m Topaz CatamaranSitting alongside the Topaz Convertible onboard the 147.25-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a> <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3962" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="A+147.25m (483'1&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2012">A+</a> (ex. Topaz), is a 12-metre custom-built Cargo Catamaran. This tender was commissioned to serve the yacht, acting as a private taxi, a dive platform and the vessel to supply fuel and cargo to and from shore. To facilitate dive expeditions, the Topaz Catamaran is equipped with a modular unit fitted to the front deck with an 18+ dive bottle capacity. Her bow was also customised to aid guests with seamless sea access.&nbsp;The 12-metre Topaz Catamaran is equipped with a pair of D6 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5350" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Volvo Penta (Company)">Volvo</a> Diesels coupled to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5769" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hamilton Jet (Company)">Hamilton</a> HJ 292 water jets that deliver a top speed of 35 knots. She’s incredibly versatile and is handy for fishing excursions, equipped with all necessary paraphernalia. Being fitted with a 400-kilo capacity hydraulic davit crane, she’s ideal for crew use when they need to haul heavier cargo or retrieve Jet Skis and water toys. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4218" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vikal International (Company)">Vikal</a> also designed her with a retractable bimini and linear activated helm hardtop, so she can snuggly fit into smaller garages.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/256222/image/large-1b8e4eab43ef13f46c86d155e668f7c8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/256222"> Vikal SP Range – 8M RIBThe 8-metre custom SP RIB features a hard ‘D’ collar fender and has a very generous deck area that can accommodate as many as 12 guests. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4218" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vikal International (Company)">Vikal</a> typically equips the 8-metre RIB with a single <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5350" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Volvo Penta (Company)">Volvo</a> D4 320 horsepower turbo diesel engine, coupled to a Hamilton HJ 274 waterjet, which delivers a top speed of 35 knots. Over the last decade and a half, the Italian designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6168" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Francesco Struglia Design (Company)">Francesco Struglia</a> has built a career working with some of the top names in the yachting industry. Cutting his teeth with the inimitable <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuccon International Project (Company)">Zuccon International Project</a>, Struglia has learnt from the best since his very earliest days in design, cultivating a childhood passion for drawing into a formidable career as consultant to one of the world’s largest shipyards. Today his studio is focusing its energies on the superyacht sector, and in addition to his yachting , Struglia is also building a name for himself as the designer of bespoke and production yachting furniture. We sat down with Francesco for an interview, to find out more about his mutli-faceted approach to all-things design.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/256239/image/large-9c6a34846b801d1a5739b31a9685bc08.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/256239">“I was very fortunate during my studies to have been taught by Giovanni Zuccon,” explained Francesco, “who took me under his wing and brought me into the amazing world of yacht design. I learned the intricacies of fibreglass yacht construction, and, working on exterior and layout planning, was given the opportunity to pour my artistic passion into the creation of unique vessels. It was very inspiring.” After his period at the Italian studio, Francesco turned to Northern Europe and joined the ranks of the famous <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/55" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Omega Architects (Company)">Omega Architects</a> under Frank Laupman, who Struglia believes is the very best in the industry within the 50 metre segment. In the Netherlands, Struglia had the opportunity to combine his passionate and romantic Italian design approach, with an effective, creative, and time scheduled real Dutch workflow. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/256236/image/large-292dd35fccc32701de1aba2b4176b31b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/256236"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/256234/image/large-407f33146083d390d9d8c9189e3c1bd1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/256234">It wasn’t long after his tenure at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/55" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Omega Architects (Company)">Omega</a> that Struglia found himself back in Italy and working in the Style Department Team of Giovanna Vitelli at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/358" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azimut Yachts (Company)">Azimut</a>. Working closely alongside the technical teams, Francesco became closely entrenched within the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/358" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azimut Yachts (Company)">Azimut</a> styling, and after many years of work, with his new own studio established, he was given the opportunity to pitch for a new <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/358" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azimut Yachts (Company)">Azimut</a> motor boat series, the series which later became the Verve, styled in its entirety by Francesco himself. The Verve has now sold more than 100 units, far exceeding any expectations Francesco, or <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/358" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azimut Yachts (Company)">Azimut</a>, had for the model.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/256246/image/large-91ba3e6484039c80652e30d433423f3b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/256246"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/248918/image/large-6ac433b20523fe5f7812fa6f4e2f3675.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/248918">Then in the late 2010’s, the studio was contacted by Giovanna Vitelli and asked to work on the start of a new series, signing the first model this time for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a>. “It really began in an informal way, building that strong relationship with the shipyard over a number of years meant that they had faith that I was capable of distilling the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6046" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azimut-Benetti Group (Company)">Azimut-Benetti</a> mentality and design ethos into a new model. We worked closely with the Benetti team on what became the Motopanfilo series, which was always intended to be a classic motor yacht series.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/248906/image/large-8ef9f449ef54f2a5e58f662937bea44d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/248906">Eight hulls of the 37-metre Motopanfilo series have now been sold, with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/10815" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="eh²36.8m (120'9&quot;)Benetti SpA2022">Eh²</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/10892" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hayat36.8m (120'9&quot;)Benetti SpA2022">Hayat</a> both launched in 2022. The yacht was Struglia’s first solo superyacht design and it's no surprise that the model has been such a success, with his deep and intimate understanding of the shipyard’s styling. In fact to this day, the studio works closely with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6046" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azimut-Benetti Group (Company)">Azimut-Benetti</a>, consulting the designers, both in-house and externally, on new models. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/248911/image/large-16bb8aaf031363dd431d75c3c908a53b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/248911">It is clear in speaking to Francesco that he has a true form-equals-function mentality when it comes to design, something he has no doubt learned over a career with some of the industry's top designers. Removing the superfluous and distilling his designs right down to include only what is necessary means that his lines are characteristically minimal, flowing and uninterrupted. It's this same design ethos that the studio takes to all of its design projects, working both on industrial projects and designing bespoke furniture.In 2020, the studio entered into a design partnership with ARAS Italia, an Italian-pedigree company working with artisans in the leather industry and which has an excellent portfolio in the automotive industries. The goal of the partnership was to design two driving seats for the yachting sector and a bar stool for the luxury yachting furniture sector and the first three products were presented by ARAS at the <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="METSTRADE - 2022">2022 METSTRADE</a> to much applause from the industry. When <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4784" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Holterman Shipyard (Company)">Holterman Shipyard</a> delivered its 32.65-metre superyacht X-treme 105, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/9148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Fleur32.65m (107'1&quot;)Holterman Shipyard2022">Lady Fleur</a>, it was quite literally the ‘talk of the town’, and when she debuted at <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cannes Yachting Festival - 2022">Cannes Yachting Festival</a> the quay was awash with amazement. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/255560/image/large-94c48888fcef698d75ab0d933383b59d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/255560"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/9148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Fleur32.65m (107'1&quot;)Holterman Shipyard2022">Lady Fleur</a> is radically practical and it’s easy to pass her off as a traditional monohull with a large aft deck for tender storage; but behind her taut muscular design is an unusual and complex piece of engineering: a novel aft deck that can be hydraulically lowered below the waterline to safely launch and retrieve a large tender. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/255483/image/large-afea7a6a5101cf22d6d8ec50c7f91540.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/255483">The seed of inspiration was sown by her owners, who wanted a multipurpose aft deck: tender storage, a deep but safe swimming pool for their grandchildren, and somewhere to host intimate dinner parties. This all had to be squeezed into a 32.65-metre platform. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4789" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bernd Weel Design (Company)">Bernd Weel Design</a> was the studio behind stylish, muscular and very attractive exterior design. But the big question, though: will it work? And who better to put the challenge to than <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Diana Yacht Design B.V. (Company)">Diana Yacht Design</a>?&nbsp;“We’re not afraid of a challenge,” Casper Marelis, Naval Architect &amp; Designer at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Diana Yacht Design B.V. (Company)">Diana Yacht Design</a>, told SuperYacht Times. “But this really was a major one, and we’ve definitely learnt a lot from this project.” The biggest learning curve, not only for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Diana Yacht Design B.V. (Company)">DIANA</a> but for the industry, was engineering a system that could deploy and retrieve a large tender, without the use of a crane. It was a major undertaking – and one that has never been done before. It also came with an added benefit: ease of boarding for both crew and guests. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/255481/image/large-96bbf6726a378615aad31a2d2b201ba5.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/255481"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/9148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Fleur32.65m (107'1&quot;)Holterman Shipyard2022">Lady Fleur</a> features a traditional motor yacht hull, but from amidships, her long aft is divided between two hulls, with the central divide making space for the tender lift that includes a lengthy pool. The platform can be lowered, in between the two hulls collecting seawater and then raised again, to create a pool. The maximum depth of the pool is 6-foot but it can be completely customised for when the younger members of the family are enjoying a swim. When underway the pool floor is hydraulically lifted, turning the aft deck into a wide, flat multi-functional space.“Compared to a ‘normal’ catamaran hull the deck above/between the two hulls on <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/9148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Fleur32.65m (107'1&quot;)Holterman Shipyard2022">Lady Fleur</a> which normally absorbs the forces created by waves is missing,” Marelis explained. “So this means theoretically the PS hull can move up and the SB hull can move down. These forces all transfer to the connection point to the monohull instead of the deck above. An extensive ‘Finite Elements Method’ short FEM calculation made it possible to analyse these forces and the resulting tensions in the structure and made it possible to strengthen the problem areas very precisely. To give you an example, there are parts which had to be 40mm thick high tensile steel while without the fold down platform the thickness could be 5mm normal steel.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/255480/image/large-5b3817c529eabb79a5ea8c0d139db18c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/255480"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Diana Yacht Design B.V. (Company)">Diana Yacht Design</a> conducted rigorous FEM analysis of the total hull construction very early on in the process, and in direct conversation with classification society and flag state. Even though this was novel, the studio was determined to actualise the owner’s wishes. Coincidently, after devising a method for the system to raise and lower, the pool was relatively easy to engineer.&nbsp;“The forces on the system depend on how much of a closed volume (air) must be pushed underwater. So we made the structure of the platform hollow above the waterline to minimise this volume. This left a big ‘empty space’ which could also house a pool. This can fill up while the system lowers. And although almost 14 tonnes of water has to be lifted afterwards, the closed volume of the platform will push this extra weight upwards.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/255559/image/large-4eb454ec2d910f2e0bfe6612c0786252.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/255559">Naturally though, such a radical design was to cause waves throughout the vessel and more challenges arose, especially after a last-minute request to add a garage at midships: where to place the engine room?“With the last minute change it meant that all the equipment moved aft, but also the structural parts like the engine seating. This meant a lot of extra weight in the aft ship for which the hull form had to be adapted. More weight in the multihull arms also meant more forces and vibrations which had to be accounted for,” Marelis said. “Due to the addition of a tender garage the multihull arms turned into the engine rooms. This meant splitting the engine rooms, so doubling up on multiple systems while the space got smaller. But this also meant moving the propshafts outboard which has a negative effect on flow towards the propeller. To have a proper water flow towards the propellers steering nozzles were added.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/255484/image/large-a138625aca462766f27a269e9675b4d9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/255484">The FEM calculation was an integral part of the aft section of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/9148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Fleur32.65m (107'1&quot;)Holterman Shipyard2022">Lady Fleur</a>, but for the forward section was treated as normal. This helps reduce lead time as it “made it possible to start building the forward section already while a lot more engineering time was created to be spent on the difficult aft ship section.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/255482/image/large-7a7c182b4234e98892340a113c0b5306.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/255482">But the aft deck is just one part of the story. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/9148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Fleur32.65m (107'1&quot;)Holterman Shipyard2022">Lady Fleur</a> also has a large enclosed tender garage, accommodation for 10 guests, and a dedicated crew apartment – all within a 200 GT package.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/9148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lady Fleur32.65m (107'1&quot;)Holterman Shipyard2022">Lady Fleur</a> truly defies the impossible, and when pressed if <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Diana Yacht Design B.V. Ferretti Group announces new project Scuola dei Mestieri

Ferretti Group has announced their new project Scuola dei Mestieri (School of Trades).

Strong headway has been made in Amsterdam with the forthcoming <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dutch Superyacht Tech Campus (Company)">Dutch Superyacht Tech Campus</a>, as construction moves forward. The first phase of the quay is being built and the process of making 22 hectares of extra land is still ongoing but taking shape quickly.&nbsp;The team will enter phase two, building docks one, two and three next month, with completion expected by June 2023. A new industry initiative has been launched by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) that focuses on the impact the yachting industry has on the world’s forests. The initiative encourages clear sustainability goals and open dialogues for more responsible solutions. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263032/image/large-9840fc3a207fde264c781f549845604d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263032">“Yachts are an extreme luxury product, but the industry is also an important sector in the innovation of new and greener solutions for the shipbuilding industry in general,” Kristian Jørgensen, technical advisor at FSC Denmark, stated. “We often see innovation in the areas of engine technology, energy efficiency, synthetic fibres, and the direct impact of different materials on the marine environment. But the time has come to pay more attention to the timber that is used.”Timber is a staple resource for the industry, whether that’s teak decking, masts and booms, or interior outfitting – you’ll be hard-pressed to find a yacht that doesn’t make use of the material in some form. The pact set out by the FSC is committed to set standards for the origin of the timber used, to help mitigate risks against negatively impacting endangered forests and the people that live there. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263015/image/large-b70e3c64fd22b16b99acf0958fc9cea6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263015">“This initiative encourages businesses to set targets which FSC, with its wide-ranging experience, supports by providing guidance and expert advice. Yacht decking has shown itself to be the Achilles’ heel of the industry. All &nbsp;FSC-certified businesses offering materials or services to yacht building are invited to participate with a supplier’s profile on the website.“When FSC works on the development of policies in a sector, our experience shows that the best way to motivate people is by being clear about the solutions that are easy and close at hand. Everyone can do something immediately by using the existing products on offer. The project involved extending the main aft deck and adding a new Jacuzzi to the sundeck. The original naval architecture and exterior design were completed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a>, with the architecture, engineering, production and styling of her 2014 refit provided by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/37" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture (Company)">Azure Yacht Design &amp; Naval Architecture</a>. Her interior is the work of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/67" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zuretti Interior Design (Company)">Zuretti Interior Design</a>. Onboard, the 1,166 GT superyacht can accommodate as many as 12 guests across six staterooms. Performance-wise, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/176" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sea Walk62.0m (203'5&quot;)Oceanco2005">Sea Walk</a> can reach a top speed of 15 knots and has a 4,500 nautical mile range while cruising at 12.5 knots. She is currently listed for sale with an asking price of €34,750,000.
