Philippe Briand unveils new 63m SY200 sailing yacht concept

London-based designer Philippe Briand has shared details of the SY200, a 62.84-metre SY200 sailing yacht concept designed to emit zero-emissions. The SY200 is fully wind-propelled with sails created to harness up to 2,000kW of power in optimal wind conditions, allowing the yacht to reach speeds of over 20 knots. Thanks to Briand’s high-performance hull design and the yacht’s hydrodynamic efficiency, the yacht’s turbines could provide power equivalent to a 500kW generator while cruising comfortably at 15 knots.SY200 superyacht concept by Philippe Briand Photo: Philipe Briand DesignThe superyacht utilises a sloop sailing rig in combination with a hull that has a slightly inverted bow. Briand has incorporated carbon fibre masts and rigging based on his experiences with the 67-metre Vertigo and the 73-metre Sybaris. The decks have a distinctly contemporary look, including a glass coachroof and an owner’s aft steering station designed as a place for guests to come together. Guests can also make use of the cockpit, which has a table seating 16 for alfresco dining while a long hardtop offers protection from the sun. We want to work alongside owners to create the perfect renewable energy machine, using only wind, water and solar energy to run the yacht and provide an exceptional experience of peace on board and exploration of the sea,” comments Briand.SY200 superyacht concept by Philippe Briand Photo: Philipe Briand Design
