The 76.4-metre research vessel, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/8372" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Petrel76.45m (250'10&quot;)Brattvaag Skipsverft AS2003">Petrel</a>, formerly owned by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has fallen on a 45-degree angle on her starboard side in a dry dock in Leith, Edinburgh. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/262728/image/large-32f62e2fc0de714fc149566c8f6785ac.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/262728">In the early morning on 22 March, emergency services were called to help assist with the casualty. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, but it is believed that strong winds played a significant role. The coastguard sent teams to the scene and the public has been asked to avoid the area of Imperial Dock. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/262729/image/large-2b5c5c009a48ea0f2296f688c99d05cf.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/262729">The unexpected accident resulted in 25 people being injured, with 15 of them being taken to the hospital, and two crew members are feared missing. Emergency services, including five ambulances, an air ambulance, and three trauma teams, were deployed to the scene. Seeing another extension in length from her predecessor, this vessel was built at the German shipyard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a>, a brand a little closer to home for Horten. Measuring 67.85 metres, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/17" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bannenberg & Rowell Design (Company)">Bannenberg</a> was responsible for her design this time in collaboration with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a>, marking a departure from the French shipyard Horten had previously favoured for his Carinthias. Again built by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen&nbsp;</a>to an almost identical design of Carinthia V, Carinthia VI&nbsp;measured 70.68 metres, and was one of the largest yachts in the world at the time. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/20602/image/large-2c2fb29561e15adb5225ba41d35f90b9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/20602">She was later sold and renamed The One and she cruised under that name for another 13 years. Regrettably, on 4 January 2016, she was destroyed in a fire that broke out in the marina where she was moored in Marmaris in Turkey.
