C-Boat has announced the introduction of a range of the most technologically advanced chase boats ever produced, comprising of 7 metre, 9 metre, 12 metre and 15 metre models. Having been delivered a brief by a private client to design such a boat, Jason Carrington and his colleague Angus Blair constructed the most rigorous R&D program seen within the Super Yacht Tender Market to date.
“We have incorporated a lot of elements into this design including, a full and comprehensive tank study to scrutinize flat water and down-wave characteristics. We undertook resistance testing to confirm a boat speed in excess of 50kts, this combined with Sea Keeping Testing should guarantee the excellent C-Boat seaworthiness.” enthuses Jason.
A full-scale mock-up and scaled presentation model combined with state of the art 3D modeling were produced in order to perfect the style and ergonomics. Carrington is known for being a stickler for attention to detail and this project is no exception.
These trials were worked alongside a FEA structural analysis and (Computational Fluid Dynamics) CFD study that showed pleasing results.
“The research has flowed down through the range with a view to providing what we believe to be the very best range of fast, efficient chase-boats with outstanding handling. The C-12M has been optimized to being very light and simple with exceptional performance characteristics – not to mention being beautiful to look at.” Jason continues.
Now back from working on his sixth Volvo Ocean Race campaign Jason and his team, working closely with Humphreys Yacht Design, are concentrating on customization and working with structural engineer Mark Bishop to combine intricate build techniques with superb structural integrity whilst retaining the original classic lines of a gentleman’s launch crossed with aggressive carbon art.
The team is working on the C-17M at present and more information on this will be available in January.
