In a landmark UK court ruling, luxury yacht manufacturer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunseeker (Company)">Sunseeker International</a> has been fined £358,759.64 for importing Myanmar teak in violation of UK timber regulations. The case, which was heard at Bournemouth Crown Court, marks the first prosecution under the UK Timber Regulation, which replaced the EU Timber Regulation post-Brexit.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/338910/image/large-708b046e9d693577ee66048b7cb1e21f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/338910">The Poole-based yacht builder pleaded guilty to three charges, including failure to exercise due diligence and maintain proper records when placing timber on the market. The charges stemmed from 11 specific imports of timber, including teak from Myanmar, wenge from Africa, and European oak, valued at over £60,000. Furthermore, there is an adjusted EBITDA of €138.2 million, representing an increase of 10.7%.
