I’m always excited to be here but, for us, being at the show is less about selling our service. This is where <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6626" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Centtrip (Company)">Centtrip</a> – with the visibility, control and empowerment we provide – can add greatest value, and this is where we spend most of our time.&nbsp;In fact, this year, 4 in 10 (40%) of the superyachts showcased at the show have <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6626" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Centtrip (Company)">Centtrip</a> onboard.For 2024, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a>’s <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5626" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Golden Odyssey123.23m (404'4&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2015">Golden Odyssey</a> – fresh from its 2023 refit and up for sale – became the largest yacht ever to have attended MYS.But it was the marginally smaller <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/8278" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kismet122.0m (400'3&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2024">Kismet</a> (also by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a> and 122m compared to 123.23m) that attracted most headlines. Innovations in sustainable luxurySustainability was on everyone’s lips, and it was in action too, at the show’s Sustainability Hub and across the event.&nbsp;Yachts on display, like <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/8278" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kismet122.0m (400'3&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2024">Kismet</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12135" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf X42.75m (140'3&quot;)Rossinavi2024">Seawolf X</a>, boast ever more capable hybrid power units. The 42.76m catamaran <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12135" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf X42.75m (140'3&quot;)Rossinavi2024">Seawolf X</a> can cross the Atlantic using electric mode for 80% of the time.Maserati, better known as a luxury carmaker, debuted at Monaco with its all-electric powerboat Tridente. The 10.5m boat has an output of 600hp and a top speed of 40 knots.Meanwhile, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7872" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="GX Superyachts (Company)">GX Superyacht</a>s’ radical new range offers smooth and luxurious hybrid power with an electric range of 100 nautical miles at six knots and, with diesel power, the ability to cross the Atlantic at 12 knots on a single tank of fuel. The range promises carbon emissions that are less than 60% of a conventional yacht while its large lithium batteries and solar array can power full hotel systems, including air conditioning, for 48 hours while at anchor.Elsewhere, as <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht-news/innovation-at-monaco-yacht-show-2024" target="_blank">SuperYacht Times reported, hydrogen fuel cells</a> offer another approach to carbon-neutral yachting.It’s not just propulsion. It’s exciting to see more eco-conscious designs and builds all around the show as designers explore new, more sustainable materials and hull designs.These innovations are important for the future of the industry. As <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6626" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Centtrip (Company)">Centtrip</a> highlighted in our recent Changing Faces of Wealth report, sustainability is an increasingly important concern for the ultra-high-net-worth individuals that are the superyacht sector’s clients. And, of course, sustainability is important for the future health of our oceans.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/329741/image/large-232f68e7de32ab5edaff90d73c68a913.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/329741">3. The evolving use of superyachtsWe’ve seen this growing for some time and it’s fascinating to see how owners’ evolving interests and concerns are influencing yacht design.Owners are spending more time aboard their yachts – sometimes to the mild concern of the charter brokers – and this is being reflected in how they use their boats and how design meets those needs.Family time is important too, and you can see this not only in more toys and beach clubs, but also in more multi-functional space for entertaining.With owners spending more time onboard, and often a greater interest in the environment, superyachts are sailing further afield. Owners wish to make a positive contribution to the environment by supporting research and even accommodating scientists for trips to the Antarctic and other regions. As contemporary superyacht design continues to prioritise light, openness and seamless connections to the sea, glass has evolved from a purely functional element into a defining aesthetic feature and, with the use of significantly larger glass panels, has become an essential structural component. Expansive glazing now shapes not only the visual identity of a yacht but also its engineering framework, requiring a far more integrated and technically rigorous approach.For German specialist <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3829" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="TILSE Glass (Company)">TILSE</a>, this shift represents both an opportunity and a responsibility – to ensure that increasingly ambitious designs are matched by uncompromising structural integrity, durability and precision.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/293944/image/large-ecdb75ea245212d313561b3fadf7f87c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/293944">Integrating glass from the concept stageLarger glass surfaces have fundamentally changed how glazing is approached in yacht construction. No longer a late-stage addition, glass must be embedded into the superstructure concept from the earliest design phases, with engineers analysing how forces move through the pane, adhesive bond and surrounding structure.Unlike static architectural environments, yachts operate under continuous dynamic loads, with hull flex, vibration and thermal variation all influencing performance. Safety margins must therefore reflect real marine conditions, while thickness, laminate composition, bonding strategy, edge detailing and installation methodology all need to be considered from the outset.Early collaboration is essential. By working with designers and naval architects at the concept stage, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3829" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="TILSE Glass (Company)">TILSE</a> helps ensure that visual ambitions are achievable without compromising technical feasibility, long-term serviceability or structural integrity. This proactive approach allows glazing to do more than fit within a design – it helps shape the structural logic of the vessel, balancing elegance with engineering robustness.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/286853/image/large-74c88213b1c3eba82cf06fc659c13e71.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/286853">Bonding as a safety-critical interfaceOne of the most significant technical challenges is bonding glass – which is inherently brittle – to aluminium or steel structures that move, flex and expand differently under load and temperature change. The adhesive joint must do more than hold the panel in place: it must accommodate movement, transfer loads safely and maintain integrity under UV exposure, salt, humidity and vibration.“The real challenge is not only the glass pane itself, but the interface between glass and a structure that is constantly moving at sea.”As panel sizes increase, this interface becomes even more critical, since minor mismatches in movement, geometry or application can have amplified consequences. Bond thickness, surface preparation, laminate compatibility and UV protection must therefore be precisely controlled. In superyacht glazing, adhesive design is not a detail – it is part of the safety concept, and a well-engineered bond line underpins both structural integrity and long-term durability.Simulation and real-world performanceFinite Element analysis helps validate glass performance, particularly in complex or non-standard applications, by modelling the interaction between glass, adhesive and supporting structure under realistic marine loads. This allows engineers to identify stress points, optimise designs and support conditions, and mitigate deflection risks early in the project lifecycle.Unlike building façades, yacht structures are subject to continuous movement, making accurate modelling essential. Long-term factors such as moisture ingress, ageing and laminate degradation must also be assessed, as they can directly affect load-bearing capacity.As glass panels grow in size, tolerances become increasingly critical. Millimetre-level deviations in shaping or installation can influence load distribution and compromise both structural performance and visual alignment. Handling and installation of large panes have therefore become technical operations in their own right, requiring precise three-dimensional measurement and meticulous execution.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/333152/image/large-73662ca86854e3909e622abf8863c6a4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/333152">Ensuring long-term laminate integrityLong-term durability begins with material selection. Because traditional PVB interlayers, which are widely used, can be vulnerable to humidity and temperature fluctuations, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3829" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="TILSE Glass (Company)">TILSE</a> uses a specially developed resin interlayer designed for enhanced moisture resistance at sea, thereby preventing delamination.Chemical toughening further improves optical clarity, reduces distortion and avoids the anisotropy often associated with thermally toughened glass. Strict quality control from raw material selection to lamination, sealing and final inspection ensures each pane meets superyacht standards.Consistency in bespoke productionFor bespoke glazing, consistency depends on rigorous process control across the entire project chain, from early consultation and three-dimensional measurement through to production and installation. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3829" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="TILSE Glass (Company)">TILSE</a>’s integrated approach reduces variability and ensures consistency across the entire project chain, even when each pane is uniquely specified.Combined with stringent inspection protocols and a commitment to rejecting substandard components, this enables the delivery of reliable, high-performance glazing systems.Engineering next-generation glazingLooking ahead, the trajectory of superyacht design points towards even larger, clearer and more seamlessly integrated glass surfaces. However, the next phase of innovation will be defined not by scale alone, but by the ability to balance ambition with practicality. Manufacturability, optical quality, structural safety, durability and ease of replacement will all play an increasingly important role in shaping future designs.As glass cements its position as a defining element of modern yacht design, its successful application depends on far more than aesthetics. Managed since 2020 by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6623" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ocibar (Company)">Group Ocibar</a>, a specialist marina operator with a portfolio that includes <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1563" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Adriano (Company)">Port Adriano</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6623" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ocibar (Company)">Marina Botafoc</a> and other facilities in the Western Mediterranean, the Tarragona-based marina offers 32 deep-water berths accommodating yachts from 45 to 160 metres.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/396342/image/large-b21010aff93c960f7f8458944c689f88.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/396342">Known throughout the industry as the "Home of Giants", <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> has become a preferred destination for some of the world's largest superyachts. Yet according to Maite Murillo Galimany, Commercial Executive at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a>, the nickname extends far beyond the vessels themselves. "We call <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> ‘Home of Giants’ due to the big size of the superyachts we host in Tarragona," Maite explains. "I would add that it’s the ‘Home of Giants’ as well for the professional team you find there including the companies set in the marina."Having recently celebrated her tenth anniversary at the marina, Maite has witnessed first-hand the transformation of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> from a relatively quiet facility into one of the Mediterranean's most established technical yachting hubs.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/396338/image/large-fca205e48cc33ba9ee3fc59247f69023.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/396338">A decade of growthMaite joined <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> after working in the hospitality industry for numerous years. Eager for a new challenge, joining <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> “felt like I was in the right place at the right moment; I usually remind my colleagues how lucky we are to work in such an industry.”&nbsp;Looking back at the last decade, it has been an exchange of experience: where Maite has brought in a lot of knowledge and know-how from the hospitality sector, as well as a fresh perspective, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> has, in turn, taught her almost everything she knows about yachting.&nbsp;During her time at the port, Maite has experienced many changes and developments “when I first started, the marina was a very different operation; much more quiet. Then we would be happy if we had all 20 berths full.” There would be time for her to get to know crew members and learn about the industry’s unique demands. For the past three years, during the high season, the 32 berths are constantly busy and it’s never quiet in the port - there is always something to do, someone to help, or a next event to organise.&nbsp;As <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> continues to grow, the challenge lies not only in meeting the increased operational demands, but also in preserving the company culture. Maite emphasises how “growth should enhance our service; it should never diminish the human connection that sits at the core of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a>.” It is precisely that view that makes <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a> not just a well-functioning marina, but makes it a pleasant port to berth: there is attention to detail, service that includes empathy, and always that personal touch. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/396341/image/large-9c8de7b3c0dc25537ef0e8138716f5dd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/396341">A human-first approachDespite the busyness of the port, Maite ensures she and her team are always available for those whose paths traverse through <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a>. “I have always kept my sense of empathy towards others,” Maite shares, “we are working for people that are far away from home and their loved ones for months. Being conscious of the human side of the industry is the key to succeeding not just in this role, but as a marina."That philosophy remains central to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2818" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Port Tarraco (Company)">Port Tarraco</a>'s approach today. While the marina is renowned for its technical capabilities and infrastructure, the team places equal importance on creating an environment where crew, captains, contractors and guests feel welcomed and supported. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/64707/image/large-1ed133346042b25c7f81bc037d60865e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/64707">Maite is like the fairy godmother of the port, referring to it as “a factory of dreams coming true.” Vessels and crew that visit the port tend to be there for weeks or months at a time so the goal is to make them feel as comfortable as possible, to provide a sense of home. For Maite and her team that means helping with any type of request that they may receive. “Sometimes it’s helping someone book accommodation, sometimes it’s finding second-hand golf clubs or taking someone to the doctor. With 24-hour surveillance and glass walls surrounding the entire premise, guests can feel safe and secure, as well as controlled dock access. It is in the main saloon, the guest cabins, the owner’s suite and even the outdoor areas. We already had the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="YachtEye (Company)">YachtEye</a> iPad and iPhone applications, which work very well for personal use. But Apple TV brings <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="YachtEye (Company)">YachtEye</a> to the shared screen in a way that feels natural, familiar and easy.Guests can sit down, open <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="YachtEye (Company)">YachtEye</a> and immediately see the itinerary, weather, menus, yacht information, crew profiles, tenders, water toys, bridge data and nearby yachts. It creates a different kind of interaction.The TV is often the most visible screen onboard, so it gives guests a very natural way to explore the itinerary, the yacht, the surroundings and everything available to them. For us as a product team, this launch also unlocks a lot of potential. What time are we leaving? What is the plan today? What is for dinner? Where are we? Which yacht is anchored next to us? Where is the crew from? What water toys do we have?Crew are there to create an amazing experience, not to answer the same basic questions over and over again. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="YachtEye (Company)">YachtEye</a> helps by making that information easy to find and beautiful to look at.&nbsp;It is not about replacing personal service. It is about supporting it.From a development point of view, what was important when building the Apple TV app?Irmin Dzevlan, tvOS Developer: The biggest thing was making it feel native to Apple TV. You cannot just take an iPad interface and put it on a television. The interaction is different, the pace is different and the screen is viewed differently.We focused on making the experience clear, smooth and visually strong. Guests should not feel like they are navigating software. The app should feel effortless: open it, browse, understand where you are, and enjoy the content.The details matter a lot. How the menu moves, how quickly information loads, how readable everything is from across the room. Those things define whether it feels premium or not.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="YachtEye (Company)">YachtEye</a>&nbsp;is already used on more than 100 yachts. How do you keep the product personal for each vessel? Daniel: Every yacht has its own way of working. Our role is to help the crew make <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="YachtEye (Company)">YachtEye</a> useful for their yacht in the most natural way possible. The platform should not become extra work. It should make things easier. We help and advice the crew to go digital where updates are instant, often even automatically, and where printing becomes old school.&nbsp;That starts with proper onboarding, clear content setup, crew training and regular contact with the team onboard. When <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="YachtEye (Company)">YachtEye</a> is set up well, guests understand it immediately and crew know how to keep it fresh.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/395396/image/large-191ee5bf3fa95fb954e178b7679240fb.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/395396">What kind of content do guests usually engage with most?Daniel: Guests love knowing what is happening and where they are going, so itinerary information and the daily schedule are certainly crucial for most yachts.The Yacht Radar, showing nearby yachts with interior and exterior images as well ad detailed information, is another feature people enjoy because it makes the anchorage come alive.&nbsp;And crew profiles are great because they make the experience more personal. Guests often want to know who is looking after them.The point is not to overwhelm guests with information. The point is to bring together the information they actually care about, in a way that is easy to explore.Where do you see onboard guest technology going?Daniel: I think the best yacht technology will become less visible as “technology”. It should just work. It should feel natural. Guests should not need instructions.People are used to very polished digital experiences in their normal life. When they step onboard a superyacht, expectations are even higher. But the solution is not to make things complicated. It is to make the right things simple.That is what we are trying to do with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="YachtEye (Company)">YachtEye</a>. As demand for larger, more efficient and environmentally conscious yachts continues to accelerate, catamaran specialist <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef Yachts</a> has positioned itself at the centre of the sector’s evolution. From the development of its new ULTIMA range to advancing solar-powered and near-zero-emission cruising technologies, the Polish shipyard is reshaping expectations of what a luxury multihull can deliver. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/393756/image/large-4ec8dde4d4c215d0156df3e50b608098.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/393756">Speaking about the future of catamaran superyachts, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> co-founder and CTO Nicolas Lapp outlined how changing owner priorities are influencing everything from propulsion systems and onboard comfort to material selection and artificial intelligence-driven sailing technologies.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/394038/image/large-de1683fdbf2981d69e7999ae8abad7d2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/394038">A new direction for performance catamaransAccording to Lapp, the ULTIMA range was born directly from client demand for greater speed and a more engaging cruising experience, while retaining the spaciousness and comfort associated with multihulls.“The ULTIMA range is really a response to what our clients were asking for,” explained Lapp. “They love the comfort and space of our catamarans, but many wanted more performance, more speed and a more dynamic experience underway.”“With ULTIMA, the goal was to combine the best of both worlds: the liveability of a catamaran with the performance closer to a monohull.” To achieve this, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> developed a sleeker hull architecture combined with carefully optimised propulsion systems designed to improve both efficiency and speed. The first ULTIMA 88 is capable of reaching 26 knots, with additional engine configurations planned for future models.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/394028/image/large-7971dab87ae7b5ead04551be001adcea.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/394028">“The first ULTIMA 88 reaches 26 knots, but soon you will also see new engine configurations that will allow for even higher performance depending on owner preferences,” he added.Balancing speed, efficiency and comfort, however, presented a significant engineering challenge for the shipyard. “The platform is quite different from classic Sunreef catamarans, so it required a fresh approach on multiple levels,” said Lapp.One of the most notable developments was the introduction of stabilisation systems for the first time within the range. “For the first time, we introduced stabilisers,” he explained. “With this new architecture, it became essential to ensure the same level of onboard comfort our clients expect. Selecting the right system was a challenge in itself, but we found a stabilisation solution that fits the ULTIMA 88 perfectly and performs exceptionally well.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/243904/image/large-7cd5c4f3256f9a5d0cbf4de4230e2297.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/243904">The growing appeal of catamaran superyachtsLapp believes the wider superyacht market is increasingly recognising the inherent advantages of multihull platforms, particularly as owner priorities shift toward efficiency, practicality and understated luxury. “Catamaran superyachts are currently one of the strongest and most exciting trends in the market,” he noted. “From the very beginning <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> has focused on combining superyacht quality with the catamaran platform.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/394065/image/large-66926bacf337b76a2728b4cd517b6ddc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/394065">Projects such as the 100 Sunreef Power, Sunreef 37M Eco and the 43M Eco illustrate how these changing expectations are influencing both technical development and interior design philosophy. “In terms of interiors, there’s a strong shift toward more spacious, calming environments – soft colors, a more ‘zen’ atmosphere,” Lapp said. “It’s less about ostentation and more about understated, refined luxury.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/217059/image/large-12e630eaaf8f68845b8e70c05748ce14.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/217059">At the same time, owners are becoming increasingly conscious of operational efficiency and environmental impact. “Energy efficiency and sustainability have become key considerations,” he explained. “Owners are increasingly aware of how their yachts operate and are looking for smarter, more responsible solutions.”Lapp also highlighted the practical benefits catamarans offer over traditional monohulls, particularly in terms of volume and energy efficiency. “The most obvious advantage is space,” he said. “The wider beam allows for much larger, open living areas, both inside and outside. This width also gives us a more usable surface for solar integration, which directly supports our energy strategy.” In addition to larger onboard spaces, catamarans benefit from shallower drafts and more efficient hull dynamics. “They require less energy to move through the water,” Lapp explained. “The engineering approach is different, but the payoff is significant: more volume and better (Company)">Sunreef</a>’s long-term strategy, with the shipyard continuing to expand its portfolio of electric and hybrid-powered yachts.“We take a 360-degree approach to eco-conscious yachting,” said Lapp. “It’s not about a single technology, but how different systems work together.” Among the most impactful developments are the integration of solar panels, advanced battery systems and energy-efficient air conditioning technologies, all aimed at significantly reducing generator dependency. “This allows yachts to significantly reduce generator use,” he noted.On sailing catamarans, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> is also incorporating hydroregeneration systems capable of producing electricity from the movement of the propellers under sail. “With the right setup and navigation profile, this combination can bring the yacht very close to zero-emission operation in real conditions,” Lapp explained.&nbsp;Solar integration itself has become a defining element of the shipyard’s design philosophy. “What makes our solution different is that the panels are not just added on – they’re fully integrated into the yacht’s structure,” he said. “The hull sides, superstructure, bimini, even masts in some cases.”By maximising available surface area for energy generation, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> is able to reduce reliance on conventional onboard power systems. “Instead of relying on generators, we can cover up to 100% of the hotel load directly from solar energy,” Lapp revealed. “When it comes to cruising, with the right navigation profile, like island hopping and smart energy management, it’s possible to navigate using close to zero fuel.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/394066/image/large-d45fd0d452c5f5b4772f16932191e6e6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/394066">Materials, automation and the future of multihullsAlongside propulsion and energy systems, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> is also investing heavily in advanced materials aimed at improving both performance and sustainability. “For example, we use recycled PET foam made from plastic bottles,” said Lapp. “Beyond being sustainable, it helps reduce weight, which improves overall yacht efficiency and performance.”The shipyard is additionally replacing traditional plywood structures in certain areas with lighter PET-based alternatives, while exploring natural composite materials such as flax fibre. “We’re also introducing materials like flax fiber, which offer similar properties to composites but come from natural, low-impact sources,” he added.Looking ahead, Lapp believes artificial intelligence and automation will play a defining role in the future of large sailing catamarans. “One of the most exciting directions for large multihull yachts is definitely the evolution of sailing itself,” he said.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> is currently developing systems intended to simplify and automate sailing operations through AI-assisted sail handling, route optimisation and energy management. “The idea is to make full use of AI, not just for sail handling, but also for route optimisation and overall energy efficiency,” Lapp explained. “It’s about making advanced sailing performance more accessible and easier to manage, even on larger yachts.” While details remain limited, he hinted that the shipyard will soon unveil further developments in this area.<img continues to adapt technologies already proven on smaller platforms for use aboard superyachts. “<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> is today the most active shipyard when it comes to implementing electric and eco solutions across the entire range, from mid-size yachts to superyachts,” said Lapp.Projects currently under construction, including the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> 100 Eco and 43M Eco, represent what the shipyard sees as the next stage in sustainable yachting. “In many ways, scaling these solutions is a natural step for us,” he explained. “We’re building on technologies that are already tested and proven, and adapting them for larger platforms through a dedicated superyacht team.”Ultimately, Lapp believes the perception of superyachts themselves is beginning to change. “They don’t have to be associated with high emissions,” he concluded. “They can just as well stand for energy efficiency and responsible innovation.”

As a result of this, the judge did not dismiss the case because Boats Group lacks market power.However, the judge said that Brill Maritime had failed to show that Boats Group engaged in illegal anticompetitive conduct and under US antitrust law, being a monopoly is not illegal by itself.The court repeatedly emphasised that monopoly power is legal, but using that power through anticompetitive behaviour to exclude rivals is illegal.&nbsp;The judge found that Brill Maritime’s three main allegations were insufficient including that Boats Group became dominant by acquiring competitors such as YachtWorld.com, boats.com and YachtCloser.com.The judge said that acquiring competitors is not necessarily illegal and that Brill Maritime had not explained how these acquisitions had harmed competition. The complaint had described the acquisitions as “strategic” suggesting it was more of a successful business move than illegal conduct. The judge explained that Brill Maritime had shown that Boats Group bought competitors, but not that these acquisitions were unlawful. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/355039/image/large-513a0ee840e10e5371f647093bba58d9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/355039">Brill Maritime also claimed that Boats Group's subscription agreements stoped brokers from listing boats elsewhere. The judge examined the contract language and concluded that the provision merely prevented brokers from implying that a YachtWorld or Boats Group listing originated somewhere else. He therefore concluded that you can advertise on YachtWorld and on other sites and the contract simply prevented you from pretending a Boats Group listing came from another platform, meaning the clause is not an exclusive dealing arrangement.Finally, Brill Maritime argued that Boats Group had dramatically increased its prices. The judge responded that high prices alone are not an antitrust violation. The court cited multiple precedents saying a legal monopolist is generally allowed to charge whatever prices it wants. To prove monopolisation, Brill Maritime needed to show that the higher prices resulted from illegal exclusionary conduct.In conclusion, the judge accepted that Boats Group may hold monopoly power in the US online boat-listing market, but ruled that the plaintiffs failed to show that Boats Group acquired or maintained that position through illegal anticompetitive conduct.United States District Judge, Roy K. Altman dismissed the complaint without prejudice, meaning the plaintiff is able to resubmit an amended complaint, with a deadline of 30 June 2026.&nbsp;The lawsuit also contained claims under Florida law, with the federal court declining to hear the state claims as the federal antitrust claims were dismissed. She was seen in St Peter Port yesterday and is now en route to Gibraltar, according to AIS data.Previously known as Grace E, she was delivered in 2014 by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi</a> under its Picchiotti brand in Viareggio, as the largest motor yacht ever built by the shipyard.
