The 24th Pinmar Golf, co-sponsored by Awlgrip, held in October at the stunning Son Gual Golf course in Mallorca, raised a new record of €72,000 for its nominated charities. 364 players took part in the tournament, 826 guests attended the prize-giving dinner at the Come Fly With Me Theatre, and over 100 sponsoring companies and 90 volunteers supported the four-day event, all helping to make it a great success.
The money raised will go to several charities including Yacht Aid Global, which delivers aid to remote coastal communities, and Allan Graham 4 Kidz, which helps disadvantaged children and young people throughout Mallorca. In addition to Awlgrip’s generous donation of € 10,000, the charity total was boosted by two further exceptional contributions, the first of which was rather unfortunate. A torrential downpour accompanied by much lightning ruled out play on the Friday afternoon which meant that 88 golfers were unable to take part. The positive side was that the owners of Son Gual immediately offered to refund the green fees and buggy fees. At the Prizegiving Dinner on the Saturday, when Remy Millott proposed to put the € 7,500 refund directly into the charity fund, we were given overwhelming support to do so by all concerned including Nick Sturge, the buggy sponsor.
The second major boost to this year’s figure was the timely arrival of the Norma Trease and rest of the wonderful Marina Port Vell team to take charge of the raffle which added a fantastic € 13,000. With another € 8,500 from the auction, on top of the money raised on the terrace and the course by all our volunteers, and generous direct donations, we reached the astonishing total of € 72,000 and that is before including the € 6,500 raised at the International Yacht Brokers Golfers Association Tournament which Alan Dale of Burgess kindly offered to add to the total.
The dates for The Pinmar 2013 are 9 – 12 October 2013.
