This month, we get to know RM Nautical, an international company based in the Netherlands which boasts more than 25 years of experience in the nautical sector and provides a large range of products for the superyacht industry including a huge range of doors, galley equipment and much moreHoused at an ultra-modern modern factory in the centre of the Netherlands, RM Nautical is equipped with a wide range of high-tech CNC machinery and a team of more than 50 experienced specialists, enabling them to take up large turn-key projects completely in-house.
The list of specialities of RM Nautical is vast and includes the following:
- All types of sliding doors
- Four leaf sliding doors, weather tight flush above teak on camber
- A flush pop-out door for each design
- Main and crew companionways on sailing yachts
- Watertight sliding doors
- Watertight sliding hatches
- Hinged doors and hatches
- Pantograph doors
- Windbreakers and windshields
As evidenced by the above list, for RM Nautical, in the field of stainless steel, aluminium, composite and of course steel, anything is possible!
Notably, RM Nautical's engineering department designs and develops all projects completely in 3D, with the goal of staying true with the designer’s vision and maintaining all design details, however complicated or challenging these might be.
Their specialist engineers create a 3D-model to join all details of the project. This 3D-model is also used to do FEM analyses in ANSYS for the benefit of the classification societies. When the structure of the yacht is ready, RM Nautical makes a 3D-scan of the interfaces involved. The 3D-scan will be combined with the 3D-model to check for possible imperfections. By checking this at an early stage, RM avoids any trouble during the installation by proposing alternative solutions to the shipyard involved, enabling them to reach for perfection in the final product.
Alongside making these complex products and systems, RM Nautical also provides a range of international services, including worldwide installation, repair and 24/7 aftersales assistance.
Marc de Groot, Managing Director at RM Nautical commented: 'We always focus on improving technical details while working on our projects. After all, Mechanical Engineering is a lot of fun! Thanks to one of our leading customers, we have learned to question ourselves during each design review and to ask ourselves, is this solution 'Value Engineering' or not? This challenges us to design more creative solutions instead of relying on traditional engineering. We especially want to thank our customers for their trust in our team, which has grown into a wider product range in the yachting industry over the last decades."
