Saudi Red Sea Authority signs MoU to boost marina development in the Red Sea

The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has signed a MoU to enhance development and operation of marinas across Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coastline. 

After nearly two centuries of continuous operation, and 60 years of ownership by the same family, Farway Marina is up for auction following its application for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Queens, New York City.&nbsp;Situated in Rockaway Beach, Jamaica Bay between Beach 84th and Beach 85th Streets, Farway Marina, comprises four parcels of land spanning a total of 153,243-square-feet in the Rockaway Beach area. With its stilt housing and a historic pier, the properties are flanked by panoramic views of Jamaica Bay and Manhattan.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/348900/image/large-b7b3f85e56bbfd5ed7012f55fc157a8b.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/348900">The marina ceased operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to its declaration of bankruptcy. Consequently, the four lots were put up for auction, both individually and as a collective.These four non-contiguous tax parcels effectively form two parcels of land, segmented by two intermediate parcels owned by the City of New York. The land’s current owners have been leasing these lots from the City with the right of use for these City-owned parcels since the 1960s.&nbsp;Possible uses for the four lots include wet storage, residential housing, dry storage, and the implementation of a yacht club, boat club, or pier. The study addressed critical challenges such as mooring analysis, quayside infrastructure integration and ensuring the berths complemented both the architectural vision and wider marina operations.&nbsp;The result is a combination of stern-to berths on piled anchorages for larger yachts and stern-to berths on floating pontoons for smaller superyachts. Hong Kong to open largest marina at airport within next 6 years

The Superyacht Base company has announced that they have secured the contract for a new superyacht marina in Japan, named the Superyacht Base Kobe Marina. Construction on the marina will start in April 2025, with a full yacht service opening in 2026 and a full opening with surrounding infrastructure taking place in 2027.According to the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7320" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Asia-Pacific Superyacht Association (Company)">Asia Pacific Superyacht Association</a>, “The new facility will be the largest superyacht facility in the Asia-Pacific region and one of the largest in the world.” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/341862/image/large-3861f98ea9a029ae8fbf81b2995500c4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/341862">Kobe Marina will join The Superyacht Base consortium, which consists of seven principal investors: GLION Group, Plan Do Sea, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/119" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Horizon Yachts (Company)">Horizon Yachts</a>, Setouchi Brand Corporation, Creation, SYL Monaco and SYL Japan.&nbsp;This new facility will be opening as part of the Kobe harbour and waterfront regeneration programme, which entails industrial spaces near to downtown Kobe becoming repurposed for public entertainment.&nbsp;Once completed, the Superyacht Base Kobe Marina will offer over 1.4-kilometres of usable linear superyacht quays for a variety of vessel lengths. Two of the quays are approximately 350-metres long, and three measures measure about 100-metres in length.Additionally, a recently built breakwater digue paves the way for an additional 200-metres or more dockage room, while a liner floating dock allows 300-metres of dockage for yachts under 60-metres long. We have been working very hard planning this marina for over two years with our consortium partners and there have been many changes, especially with the fluctuating construction costs, but we will have a superyacht marina in Japan that has the facilities of superyacht marinas in Monaco, France, Italy and south Florida, that can accommodate any size yacht that has yet been built or even imagined.”Located in Kobe City, the marina is in the heart of Japan, which is an archipelago of upwards of 14,000 islands spanning 3,000-kilometres from north to south. There is 50% more coastline than the United States, so there is a massive area to explore with still many undiscovered cruising destinations. With a Mediterranean climate in many parts of the country, and sub-tropical in others there is great winter cruising and while it might be a bit chilly to swim, there is world class skiing usually just a stone’s throw away from any yacht.”The Superyacht Base Kobe Marina is also in close proximity to three major airports, two of which have international and private jet capabilities, and Shinkansen (bullet trains) for transit through Japan. By 2026 and 2027, more facilities on the quayside of the marine with marine offices are set to take shape, including boutiques, cafes and restaurants, as well as the Kobe Yacht Club.&nbsp;“It’s a fantastic place for owners and guests, but also for crew that are based long term at the marina. Kobe is a very vibrant city, and the marina is right in the heart of it,” Shintani concluded.&nbsp;

The former yacht owner and Formula 1 team boss Eddie Jordan has died at age 76. A statement made by Jordan’s family on Thursday morning revealed that he had passed away in his Cape Town home following a cancer diagnosis in December 2024. The Irishman was the owner of several yachts, including the 45.6-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi</a> sailing yacht Blush (now named <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/43" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mare Nostrum45.26m (148'6&quot;)Perini Navi2007">Mare Nostrum</a>) during his lifetime.&nbsp;As a former driver himself, the businessman won the Irish kart championship in 1971 but suffered an accident in Formula 3 in 1976, before transitioning to team ownership in the year 1979. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/353276/image/large-df8254dd787bb5de9005e52062fe4b28.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/353276">While his Eddie Jordan Racing team started with 12 people in 1987, it eventually amounted to 50 members once Jordan took part in F1 in 1991. Remaining guests are hosted in two VIP ensuite staterooms and two additional staterooms on the lower deck. A detail that differentiates the eight Moonen Martinique from previous models is the aft-facing king-size bed. “It seems like a minor detail to flip the position of the bed, yet this gives owners clear sight lines out to sea when they wake rather than looking onto the bow which impedes the view,” Hoekstra shared.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/353258/image/large-df2d8f704170e872b4f0e82cd1b780ca.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/353258">At the heart of the yacht’s design are three materials: wood, leather and brass, which are married to a warm mid-century colour scheme of light taupe and grey. Inside the main saloon is an antique bronze mirrored ceiling referencing 17th century Dutch architecture, while several shades of blue and a Delftware-inspired mural on the dining room wall are also a nod to the Netherlands. It's been made using revolutionary software, but guests are free to imagine the rest themselves. Salvatore Canzoneri has shared the renderings and details of Kossyra, a 67-metre island-inspired superyacht concept.
