Tommaso Spadolini has released his latest design concept, a 32.8-metre lightweight yacht, which is presently quite simply labelled: the Concept 32.8-metre Motor Yacht. Spadolini was commissioned by a loyal-client, an Italian entrepreneur, who gave him “a number of non-negotiable constraints”, deemed essential to the final presentation of the concept.Photo: Spadolini The client’s specifications presented Spadolini with somewhat of a challenge. He had to navigate seemingly conflicting requests. There were strict restrictions to the yacht's dimensions, as it was required to fit into a pre-existing 33 x 8-metre berthing place. On top of this, designers had to ensure the yacht contained a spacious, full-beam main saloon and living area. At around 50-square metres, the main saloon includes a U-shaped sofa, a card table, and a bar.Photo: Spadolini The resultant design concept is a tri-deck superyacht characterised by a carefully crafted interior layout with an emphasis on maintaining the continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces. This is done through the use of folding doors and glass elements that are used throughout. A formal dining area is located on the upper deck to keep the main living and dining spaces separate. Folding glass doors are also fashioned in a way that keeps the dining space separate from the upper deck’s two solariums — but they can also be opened to create a more open layout.Photo: Spadolini Guests are accommodated on board across two VIP cabins and two guest cabins. On the main deck forward is the owner’s designated suite with a customised layout, developed to fit the owner’s specific lifestyle needs. It includes a centrally-positioned and forward-facing double bed, connected to a bathroom, walk-in closet, and study by a sliding door for privacy.Photo: Spadolini Another request from the owner was to provide comfortable accommodation and living quarters for the yacht’s crew of five, as the client believes that “a yacht with a contented crew is a yacht with a contented owner and guests.”Photo: Spadolini The Concept 32.8-metre Motor Yacht holds a tender garage forward and can also store a second tender on the bow’s protective topside, which can be hauled with a compact carbon crane.Photo: Spadolini One of the owner’s greatest desires was having a high-speed yacht. This led to the designer's decision to use light alloy as the construction material. Four Volvo Penta IPS 1350 engines, totalling almost 3,000 hp, will allow the yacht to reach a top speed of almost 26 knots and cruise comfortably at 20 knots. Her autonomous range, at 10 knots, is an impressive 3,500 nautical miles.
