Reflecting on the origins of the Velarca 135 concept, Sami revealed that the idea emerged on a sunny day in August 2021 in Helsinki’s Kaivopuisto Park. Accompanied by an advertising agency and several bottles of champagne, the team were spurred by a bold vision. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/242232/image/large-8fd4ddc1c0153b0949334960523201b4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/242232">“We knew that motor yachts dominate the superyacht market with over 90 percent market share, which also means they produce most of the greenhouse gas emissions. So, we decided there and then to start selling sailing yachts to the motor yacht clientele,” Sami explained. This marked not only the birth of Velarca 135 but also the formation of a business model that would allow <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6600" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Isola Corvus Ltd. (Company)">Isola Corvus</a> to enter the superyacht market, without a designer or shipyard already in place.One of the cornerstones of the Velarca 135 design is sustainability, a principle that Sami was determined to uphold without compromising on luxury. “Sustainability is a tricky word,” elaborated Sami. “Many luxury products have a longer lifespan because they are valuable, beautiful, and timeless. When asked about the design process, Sami recounted the strategic decisions that guided the yacht’s development. “We consulted well-known yacht brokers in the Mediterranean to understand what their customers prefer in terms of yacht size and amenities. We also prioritised safety and simplicity, ensuring that even a less experienced crew could manage the yacht with ease.” The design was then handed over to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/164" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Beiderbeck Designs (Company)">Beiderbeck Designs</a>, who were given full artistic freedom. “In my opinion, the result was not only quite clever and practical, but also very pretty,” Sami added.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216494/image/large-d23ae9f9a161e73b660e7a5c5bafcac6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216494">The Isola Corvus vision and challengesAs a relatively new player in the superyacht industry, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6600" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Isola Corvus Ltd. (Company)">Isola Corvus</a> brings a fresh perspective, heavily influenced by Sami’s background in offshore racing. “We dared to do what we wanted without asking too many questions,” Sami explained, reflecting on the fearless approach that has driven the company forward. One significant innovation influenced by Sami’s racing experience was the rig design. “I was never a fan of the Chinese gybes, as the boom had the potential to cause damage or injury by slamming from side to side when jibing; so I wanted to eliminate the risks of this happening completely. The Velarca rig is simply a boomless, rope free, two masted solution, with two rolling and self-tacking jibs on each mast and a third jib in an inverted position between the two masts.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216499/image/large-e6b6b2919ec59af2b44f6642ef4ec58f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216499">Despite their innovative spirit, the journey hasn’t been without challenges. “We didn’t have a designer or shipyard partner in the beginning, both of which are must-haves to even launch a design,” Sami admitted. However, a fortunate connection with Finnish superyacht hydraulics entrepreneur Nadine Proctor opened doors, leading to a partnership with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/164" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Beiderbeck Designs (Company)">Beiderbeck Designs</a>. “By January 2022, the design was ready to launch,” Sami recalled. He also highlighted Knierim’s involvement in the wind power industry as an added benefit that aligns with their sustainability goals.&nbsp;However, marketing a yacht that blurs the lines between motor yachts and sailing yachts presents its own set of challenges. The superyacht sector, however, seems more willing to experiment with alternative fuels,” Sami observed. The Saudi Red Sea Authority has introduced Saudi Arabia’s first regulation governing yacht activities within its territorial waters.

Constructed entirely from aluminium, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6172" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Calypso I36.0m (118'1&quot;)Mulder Shipyard2019">Calypso I</a> was delivered by the Dutch shipyard in 2019 as part of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/293" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Mulder Shipyard (Company)">Mulder</a> ThirtySix yacht series. Her exterior design was created by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2546" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Claydon Reeves (Company)">Claydon Reeves</a>, with her interiors crafted by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4540" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Vickers Studio (Company)">Vickers Studio</a> and naval architecture completed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/460" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Van Oossanen Naval Architects (Company)">Van Oossanen Naval Architects</a>. The Malta-flagged yacht boasts five staterooms, accommodating up to ten guests, including a full-beam master suite with private access to a seating area in the bow. Performance-wise, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6172" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Calypso I36.0m (118'1&quot;)Mulder Shipyard2019">Calypso I</a> is powered by twin <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1408" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Caterpillar Inc (Company)">Caterpillar</a> C18 diesel engines, allowing her to reach a top speed of 17 knots and cruise comfortably at 15 knots.

At 49.9-metres in length, the Navetta 50 is the new flagship of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/112" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Custom Line Spa (Company)">Custom Line</a>’s highly successful Navetta displacement line and will begin construction later this year.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235052/image/large-b68617e398a94fecacf3e6d9b92b7849.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235052">The Navetta 50 will be the first unit from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/112" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Custom Line Spa (Company)">Custom Line</a> to be constructed out of aluminium, instead of the traditional GRP that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/112" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Custom Line Spa (Company)">Custom Line</a> is known for. The design of this 50-metre variant pivots around the bow and the owner’s area. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235053/image/large-7d6fb06f9a53d055df1e3c910a73614e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235053">Rather than following the more traditional general arrangement with the owner’s area on the main deck, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/112" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Custom Line Spa (Company)">Custom Line</a> has moved the master suite to the bow of the upper deck, providing even more privacy and a forward-facing stateroom. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235061/image/large-93b154cc6c85f02e3e8df759b65cda9c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235061">“This is something that no one else has managed to do up to date and something that you normally see only on 65 to 70 metre yachts,” Filippo Salvetti, Founder of Studio Salvetti, and exterior designer of the series explained.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235063/image/large-be798dc5f70ea9f459987729f2cb10ce.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235063">In order to facilitate this raised owner’s deck, a semi-deck has been created between the main deck and upper deck – this is where the helm station is located. This caused a challenge for the team stylistically, as it threw interruptions into the traditional white lines that run from the bow to stern of the rest of the Navetta series. To facilitate this, the exterior styling had to be adapted.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235050/image/large-4f4bca0f90c10b71cb53986d2317b8a2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235050">Salvetti has introduced new lines to the Navetta 50 and pulled back the upper deck. These exterior lines change the character of the series, “making her more aggressive and pushing the series into a new era,” as Salvetti described.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235055/image/large-d1de3cacf138483d95846ded7612b3e0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235055"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235059/image/large-7a1b3475881ddba2648d1827217e0667.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235059">The motivation behind moving the owner’s suite didn’t stem from aesthetics though, this was a happy consequence. The motives grew from the idea to offer the owner even more intimacy and impressive views from the master suite. The stern follows a similar design to that found on <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/12" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="CRN (Company)">CRN</a> superyachts, with a foldable aft section that opens up the beach club. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235064/image/large-c42e497c06a801f14cfff8aa07e541d1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235064"> <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5082" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel (Company)">ACPV Architects</a> was enlisted to curate the interior spaces of the new flagship, and Patricia Viel, CEO of the Italian studio detailed the rich material palette that the Navetta 50 series will be furnished in during the conference. The studio has worked to give each deck its "own individual personality". The &nbsp;Navetta 50 will be a sub 500 GT motor yacht that offers accommodation for 10 guests and nine crew.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235054/image/large-4b5d037c4b51ac3a662d96b9c61144b2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235054"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235058/image/large-72807e81b39c9c5f73c7c1676fe4f323.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235058">Performance-wise, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/112" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Custom Line Spa (Company)">Custom Line</a> will equip the Navetta 50 with twin <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1408" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Caterpillar Inc (Company)">CAT</a> engines that deliver enough power for a top speed of 16 knots. When dialled back to more economical speeds, the Navetta 50 will boast an approximate 4,000 nautical mile range.In regards to sustainability, &nbsp;as the Navetta 50 will be constructed out of aluminium and not steel, she'll be around three times lighter – cutting consumption by around 10-15 percent compared with a similar steel-built yacht in terms of weight and length. The shipyard itself in Ancona is also championing sustainability and has a trigeneration plant in place, which reduces electricity consumption by up to 79 percent and saves approximately 32 percent of heat energy.&nbsp;&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5082" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel (Company)">ACPV Architects</a> has also written sustainability into the Navetta 50's interior design, opting for 100 percent recycled materials where possible, and where not the best sustainable solutions are used.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/235062/image/large-8d50df98b8de81b0dbb4c6e8de2cae86.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/235062"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/112" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Custom Line Spa (Company)">Custom Line</a> has already commenced construction of the first unit of the series, slating summer 2024 for delivery. Stefano de Vivo, Chief Commercial Officer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4876" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ferretti Group (Company)">Ferretti Group</a>, said that this model is being built on speculation but has garnered some serious interest – “hopefully in the next couple of weeks you will hear that it’s sold,” Stefano de Vivo said. The second unit of the series will be delivered 10 months after the first, and then <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/112" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Custom Line Spa (Company)">Custom Line</a> expects to launch one every eight months following on.&nbsp;
